A panel at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Thursday alleged that socialized medicine — not a car accident — killed Princess Diana.
The remarks came during a panel on the alleged dangers of socialized medicine.
“Socialized medicine killed Princess Diana,” the announcer revealed before asking one of the panelists to explain why.
“Princess Diana was in the car accident in France,” Dr. David Schneider, an orthopedic surgeon, told the crowd. “They actually don’t have any trauma specialists in France.”

‘Blood is required of every generation’: Video surfaces of Rep. Matt Shea speaking in 2013

Standing onstage with a large American flag draped behind him, state Rep. Matt Shea spoke candidly to a small congregation of supporters in northeast Washington.
It was early July 2013, and Shea’s message was clear: Prepare for conflict. The federal government is coming to get you.
“Arm yourselves. Arm your families. Arm the church,” he said, according to video footage that surfaced this week.
“Godlessness is violence,” he said. “We’ve got to prepare ourselves mentally. And part of that, too, is we’ve got to realize that every generation – blood is required of every generation. In some way, shape or form, blood is required of every generation.”
Shea delivered the speech at the annual God and Country Celebration in Marble, a small religious community in northeast Stevens County, some 80 miles outside the district he represents in the Legislature.

President Donald Trump is singling out a particular official with the Centers for Disease Control for warning against the possible spread of the coronavirus.
The president is furious that CDC officials warned Tuesday that the COVID-19 virus could potentially shut down schools and businesses, and he reportedly blames Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the director of the agency and the sister of former deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein — as Rush Limbaugh did on his national radio program.
“This person running this agency, who does she donate to?” Limbaugh said during his syndicated show. “Well, her brother is Rod Rosenstein. I’m guessing, let me check. I need to double-check this, because what I’m seeing here is ‘Messonnier’s sister is Rod Rosenstein’ — unless Rosenstein’s had a sex-change operation, that can’t be right.”
Trump, perhaps following the lead of Limbaugh and fringe right-wing blogs, has focused his anger on Messonnier, according to CNBC’s Eamon Javers.

GOP Senate candidate blames Civil War on 'gridlock' and 'pointing the finger'

New Hampshire Senate candidate Donald Bolduc said the war was a result of 'Not working together, not being a partnered team.'
A GOP Senate candidate in New Hampshire said the cause of the Civil War was "gridlock" and a lack of compromise between political parties.
Don Bolduc, a retired Army brigadier general, made the comment at a meet-and-greet in the state on Jan. 28, according to audio obtained by the American Independent.
"The Civil War was started because the parties, because they couldn't come together," Bolduc said. "There were reasons for fighting it. But they couldn't get together to figure it out so we just had a war. Gridlock, blaming, pointing the finger. Not working together, not being a partnered team."
Of course, slavery is the reason the Civil War was fought. The war began when southern states started to secede from the Union because they wanted to continue to enslave black people.

Trump's border wall construction is destroying sacred sites

'Dynamiting these sacred sites and burial grounds is the same as bulldozing Arlington National Cemetery or any other cemetery," Tohono O'Odham Nation Chair Ned Norris Jr. told Washington lawmakers.
A Native American leader from Arizona grew emotional Wednesday as he told a congressional committee about the pain members of his tribe feel about U.S. officials blasting through land they consider sacred to build part of Donald Trump's wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
"No one reveres our military veterans more than the O'odham, however, dynamiting these sacred sites and burial grounds is the same as bulldozing Arlington National Cemetery or any other cemetery," Tohono O'odham Nation Chair Ned Norris told lawmakers in Washington.
His testimony came hours after the government carried out a new round of explosions near the southern border as a group of invited journalists watched. Construction crews this month began blasting and bulldozing through hills to build a 30-foot (9-meter) steel wall 60 feet wide (18 meters wide) in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.
Environmental groups also are decrying the work at the national parks system site that's named for its cactuses resembling organ pipes and is a largely untouched example of Sonoran Desert habitat.

Top expert on viral infections must get Pence's approval before issuing statements: NYT

A top expert on viral infections has been given orders to not make any statements about the coronavirus without being authorized by Vice President Mike Pence.
The New York Times reports that Dr. Anthony Fauci, who serves as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has “told associates that the White House had instructed him not to say anything else without clearance” about the disease.
According to the Times, the White House has been trying to tighten its messaging on the virus by having all statements about it cleared first through Pence’s office. This comes days after White House officials issued completely contradictory statements about the virus being both “contained” and also likely to spread throughout the country.
However, Pence also appointed one of the major culprits of spreading misinformation to his coronavirus task force on Thursday when he announced that economic adviser Larry Kudlow would be joining the team. Kudlow this week infamously said that the virus had been “contained” just hours after public health professionals told lawmakers that the virus’s spread “might be bad.”

President Donald Trump’s son Eric is attacking a Scottish Green Party leader after he called for an investigation into the money behind a land purchase.
Lawmaker Patrick Harvie “said there were reasonable grounds for suspecting that the US president, or people he is connected with, ‘have been involved in serious crime,’” said The Scotsman in a report.
Scottish publication “The National” quoted the younger Trump attacking Harvie as “an irrelevant and spineless politician.”
During the weekly questioning of leaders, Harvie explained that there were still “big questions” over Trump’s business dealings.
“The purchase of the Menie Estate and the Turnberry golf resort were part of Trump’s huge cash spending spree in the midst of a global financial crisis, while his son was bragging about ‘money pouring in from Russia,'” he said. “The US House Of Representatives has heard testimony that states: We saw patterns of buying and selling that we thought were suggestive of money laundering.”

DNC issues security warning after 'impersonator' tries to contact campaigns

The Sanders campaign reported that an 'impersonator' had posed as one of its staffers and sought conversations with two other campaigns.
The Democratic National Committee has warned its presidential candidates to be cautious after Bernie Sanders' campaign reported that an "impersonator" with a domain registered overseas had posed as one of its staffers and sought conversations with members of at least two other campaigns.
Bob Lord, the DNC's chief security officer, wrote in an email to his party's presidential campaigns on Wednesday that "adversaries will often try to impersonate real people on a campaign" to get people to "download suspicious files, or click on a link to a phishing site." Lord said attackers may also try to set up a call or in-person meeting that they can record and publish.
Lord said that the fake domain name that was used in the Sanders incident is registered in a foreign country, though Lord noted that anyone can register a domain name in any country.

Trump offers 'condolences' but no action following latest mass shooting

Trump has yet to follow through on his previous promise to take 'strong measures to keep weapons out of the hands of dangerous' people.
Donald Trump delivered a rare press conference on Wednesday and sent a 42-second message of condolences to those impacted by a mass shooting in Milwaukee this week that left five people dead.
Despite previously promising major action to combat gun violence, Trump did not offer any solutions to address the problem Wednesday evening.
"I'd like to extend my deepest condolences to the victims and families in Milwaukee, Wisconsin," Trump told reporters, calling the shooter a "wicked murderer."
"Our hearts break for [the victims] and their loved ones," he continued. "We send our condolences. We’ll be with them. And it’s a terrible thing, terrible thing. So our hearts go out to the people of Wisconsin and to the families."
