Ryan Zinke recommends Trump shrink two more US national monuments

Source: The Guardian

Interior secretary Ryan Zinke has announced recommendations to shrink two more national monuments in the western US – Cascade-Siskiyou in Oregon and California, and Gold Butte in Nevada.

He also said Donald Trump should consider changing the boundaries of the Pacific Remote Islands and Rose Atoll Marine monuments in the Pacific Ocean.

Zinke, a former Republican congressman from Montana, spoke on a call with reporters on Tuesday. He strongly disputed a claim by the outdoor retailer Patagonia that Donald Trump “stole” public land by announcing the shrinking of two such areas in Utah, Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante.

The outdoor retailer’s claim was “nefarious, false and a lie”, Zinke said.

Unlike national parks, which can only be created by an act of Congress, national monuments can be designated unilaterally by presidents under the 1906 Antiquities Act, which is meant to protect sacred sites, artefacts and historical objects.

Trump has said presidents have abused the act by putting unnecessarily big chunks of territory off limits to drilling, mining, grazing, road traffic and other activities. In April he ordered Zinke to identify which of 27 monuments designated by past presidents should be rescinded or resized.

Red Rider - Lunatic Fringe

Lyrics
See you on the other side

Lunatic Fringe
I know you're out there
You're in hiding
And you hold your meetings
I can hear you comin'
I know what your after
We're wise to you this time
(Wise to you this time)
We won't let you kill the laughter

Uh huh
Uh huh
Uh huh

Lunatic fringe
In the twilight's last gleaming
This is open season
But you won't get too far
Cause you gotta blame someone
For your own confusion
We're on guard this time
(On guard this time)
Against your final solution
Oh no

Uh huh
Uh huh
Uh huh

We can hear you comin'
(We can hear you comin')
No, you're not gonna win this time
(Not gonna win)
We can hear the footsteps
(We can hear the footsteps)
Way out along the walkway
(Out along the walkway)

Lunatic fringe
We all know you're out there
Can you feel the resistance
Can you feel the thunder

The President Stole Your Land: Patagonia blasts Trump for monuments move

Source: Think Progress

On Monday night, just hours after President Donald Trump announced that he would be reducing the size of two national monuments by some 2 million acres, Patagonia’s website went dark save for a simple message in bold white lettering.

“The President Stole Your Land,” the homepage of Patagonia.com read, adding, “In an illegal move, the president just reduced the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments. This is the largest elimination of protected land in American history.”

The website then offered visitors a chance to learn more, both about the president’s move to reduce the size of the two Utah monuments as well as Patagonia’s own commitment to maintaining federally protected public lands. Earlier this year, Patagonia ran its first-ever television advertisement in direct opposition to the administration’s then-rumored intention to shrink national monuments, spending some $700,000 on television and radio advertisements in Utah, Montana, and Nevada.

Pretty straight forward, it is not UTAH'S, MONTANA, NEVADA state government land, it is "our" land.

Roy Moore spokesperson begins CNN interview by claiming Doug Jones wants to kill hosts unborn baby

Source: Think Progress

Janet Porter, spokesman for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore, began a CNN interview on Tuesday by suggesting that Moore’s Democratic opponent, Doug Jones, supports killing the interviewer’s unborn baby.

“Thank you, it is great to be with you, and by the way, congratulations on your unborn child,” Porter said to host Poppy Marlow, who is pregnant. “That’s the reason I came down as a volunteer to speak for Judge Roy Moore, because he stands for the rights of babies like yours in the womb, where his opponent will support killing them until the moment of birth.”

Porter’s claim is false. Though Jones is pro-choice, he made clear during a recent interview with AL.com that he supports Alabama’s existing abortion laws, which ban most late-term abortions.

“To be clear, I fully support a woman’s freedom to choose to what happens to her own body. That is an intensely, intensely personal decision that only she, in consultation with her god, her doctor, her partner or family, that’s her choice,” Jones said. “Having said that, the law for decades has been that late-term procedures are generally restricted except in the case of medical necessity. That’s what I support. I don’t see any changes in that. It is a personal decision.”

Shilling For Right-Wing College Wasnt Worst Senator Did Last Weekend

Will Bunch
Philadelphia Daily News

If you've never heard of a small institution of higher learning called Hillsdale College, here are a few things you should know about it. The school decided after a 1980s Supreme Court ruling to forego all federal funds, which means it doesn't need to follow the Title IX rules aimed at reducing campus sexual assault, let alone any guidelines on affirmative action. The college is thus mostly white — and its longtime president once referred to non-white students at a legislative hearing as "dark ones." It also has a reputation as an unfriendly place for LGBTQ students — which was driven home when the school's chaplain called for prayer against "evil" gay marriage.

And there's also this: Hillsdale College is located in southern Michigan, some 280 miles west of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

All in all, to paraphrase the cliche of the moment, this was a bizarre Hillsdale that one of Pennsylvania's U.S. senators, Pat Toomey, chose to die on.

OK, maybe "die" isn't the right word, but the state's junior senator did reveal a lot about himself on the wee wee hours on Friday when — in a strange 11-minute debate amid the dead-of-night push for the GOP's $1 trillion millionaire tax giveaway — Toomey tried to defend his amendment that would mean a $700,000 annual tax break for the conservative-oriented Hillsdale by exempting it from a levy on endowments that would hammer the University of Pennsylvania and several other schools in the state Toomey supposedly represents.

Patagonia CEO: Im Not Going To Stand Back And Just Let Evil Win

Reprinted with permission from Shareblue.com

Continuing his obsession with trying to undo everything President Barack Obama accomplished while in office, Donald Trump on Monday moved to radically reduce the size of Bears Ears National Monument in Utah.

In an anti-environmentalist maneuver that is overwhelmingly opposed by Native American tribal leaders in the region, Trump wants to reduce the size of the moment designation by nearly 90 percent.

Who’s happy about the radical shift? Businesses that want to use the protected land for profit by extracting oil and gas.

“The drillers, miners and frackers who were shut out by Bill Clinton and Barack Obama’s use of the Antiquities Act would have new leases on life,” CNN reports.

Trump’s unprecedented move to shrink a U.S. monument is certain to spark a protracted court case. Trump’s effort “could alter the course of American land conservation, possibly opening millions of protected public acres to oil and gas extraction, mining, logging and other commercial activities,” The New York Times reports.

Dem lawmaker: Manafort is guilty of treason

Source: The Hill

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, on Monday alleged that former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort committed treason by drafting an op-ed with a Russian associate with ties to the Kremlin.

“The nerve. At this point, let’s just call this what it is, treason,” Swalwell wrote on Twitter. “He’s out on bail in the #TrumpRussia investigation and he’s giving comfort and aid to an enemy.”

Swalwell had quoted a tweet that included screenshots of the court documents from the special counsel.

A prosecutor working on the special counsel investigation argued in court documents that Manafort’s request to be released from house arrest should be denied due to the draft op-ed.

Over the Sunday weekend Mick Mulvaney went on the news program Face the Nation

now that this asshole has two hats to really screw the taxpayers this Sunday this jerk basically said that he is for the Chained CPI so read and open the video to watch how a cretin he is, he really a right wing hack--------------------FUCK YOU MULVANEY , you and Ryan attacking the IRS is dangerous-------------your plan is make the IRS obsolete and without this agency being decimated too catch cheats like your boss should be called out----------and also FUCK YOU on the Chained CPI

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mulvaney-open-to-non-significant-change-in-corporate-rate-to-move-tax-bill-forward/

"Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney says the administration is open to seeing minor changes in the current corporate tax rate in order to move ahead on passing the Republican-led overhaul of the nation's tax code.

"The president said that he might be okay with a 22 percent corporate rate instead of a 20 percent corporate rate. Is that right? And why the change?" CBS News' John Dickerson asked Mulvaney Sunday morning.

"I think what you heard the president say is, 'Look, we're very close to the finish line.' You know he's wanted a 15 percent rate from the very beginning. That move to a 20 percent rate is part of the discussion. My understanding is that the Senate has a 20 percent rate now. The House has a 20 percent rate now. We're happy with both of those numbers," Mulvaney said.

"If something small happens in conference that gets us across the finish line, we'll look at it on a case-by-case basis," he added. "But I don't think you'll see any significant change in our position on the corporate taxes."

Transcript: OMB Director Mick Mulvaney on "Face the Nation"
The Senate tax bill, which passed early Saturday, lowers the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent, as Republicans originally intended. The cuts are permanent.

An amendment from Republican Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Mike Lee of Utah that would have increased the corporate tax rate to nearly 21 percent in exchange for a more generous child tax credit failed overnight Friday before the final vote. But Mr. Trump -- who had initially floated a 15 percent rate -- suggested the tax rate may end up being more than 20 percent.

"Business tax all the way down from 35 to 20. It could be 22 when it comes out but it could also be 20. We'll see what ultimately comes out," the president told reporters Saturday morning before leaving for fundraisers in New York.

Congress will still need to reconcile the Senate's version of tax reform with the House-passed version, which also lowers corporate taxes from 35 percent to 20 percent.

Mulvaney maintains, however, that taxes will indeed be simpler for "ordinary Americans."

"They [tax simplifications] will be for ordinary people," said Mulvaney. "For small businesses, they're still going to be fairly complex. But they always were. You know when you sign up to be a pass-through entity that your life is going to be fairly complicated for taxes. But for ordinary folks it will be."

He added, "There's not a lot of new regulations. Yeah, you're going to change the way we treat, again, pass-through entities. But a lot of the deductions are gone. A lot of the loopholes."

Mulvaney said as a result, Americans are "not going to see a dramatic increase in the size of the IRS in order to administer this law."

Mulvaney -- who is now pulling double duty for the Trump administration as the new director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, or CFPB -- said as small groups in the House and Senate "hold the government hostage," he predicts Americans will not see the federal government shut down.

"I think there's a group of right-wingers in the House who say they want to shut the government down. There's a group of Democrats who want to shut the government down over DACA. And there's a group of lawmakers from some of the hurricane states who want to shut the government down until they get what they want," he said.

"This just sheds light on the fact that the appropriations, the spending system, is broken when any little group can sort of hold the government hostage," he said. "We need to get beyond that. I think that we will, I don't think you'll see a government shutdown."

Trump is coming to Utah to perform dramatic feat Monday:make big national monuments mostly disappear

Source: The Salt Lake Tribune

Like a political magician, President Donald Trump is expected to perform a dramatic trick on a Utah stage Monday: making disappear most of the state’s Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments.

“We’re going to Utah — we’re going to be doing something that the state of Utah and others have wanted to be done for many, many years,” Trump told reporters this morning. “It will be one of the great, really, events in this country for a long time. So important for states’ rights and so important for the people of Utah — and I know a lot of you will be coming with me, we’ll have a lot of time to talk.”

Native American tribes and environmental groups are already booing the act — which leaked documents indicate may reduce Bears Ears by 85 percent and Grand Staircase by half, and replace them with five new, much smaller monuments.
Opponents plan to file lawsuits seeking to reverse an expected executive order they say would be devastating. For example, Jennifer Rokala, executive director of the Center for Western Priorities, calls it “the largest elimination of protections for lands and wildlife in U.S. history.”

"But Utah political leaders from Sen. Orrin Hatch to Gov. Gary Herbert argued that Obama — and Clinton — did not listen to local concerns when they created the sprawling monuments. They say the designation hurts ranching, mining and other potential activities there."

Hey Hatch and your worthless governor, of the state, you two really are a racists and bigots
