Trump to shrink Utah monument by half, GOP staffer says

Source: The Hill

President Trump is planning to shrink the controversial Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by approximately half, a staffer for Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said.

Ron Dean, who leads Hatch’s central and eastern Utah operations, gave the figures to the state legislature’s Commission for the Stewardship of Public Land on Tuesday, saying the monument would be between 700,000 and 1.2 million acres, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Dean also confirmed that the Bears Ears National Monument, the other massive and controversial monument in Utah, is going to be shrunk to between 100,000 and 300,000 acres, from the current 1.35 million acres, according to the Tribune.

Hatch has been an outspoken advocate for significantly reducing both Grand Staircase — created by former President Bill Clinton — and Bears Ears, which was created by former President Barack Obama.

So the senator from Utah, thinks it is just fine a dandy to basically blackmail the people of the country when it comes to land protection and national parks--------------I guess he doesn't think the historical artifacts at Bears Ear mean anything to the Indigenous People

Congresswoman proposes GOP tax reform amendment that would refocus attention on gun control

Democratic Congresswoman Robin Kelly has submitted an amendment to the Republican tax reform bill that would increase taxes on bullets for semi-automatic weapons, in a curveball attempt to re-focus national attention on gun control efforts by using the GOP’s own bill against them.

The amendment calls for taxes on shells and cartridges for semi-automatic weapons to be increased “by such a number of percentage points as is necessary to fully offset any deficits which result by reason of the preceding provisions of this Act.” In short, the amendment would offset the $1.5 trillion deficit threshold included in the GOP tax bill, a spokesperson from Kelly’s office said. The amendment would exclude “sales to law enforcement and the military”, they added.

Trump administration deals a blow to international anti-corruption efforts

Months ago, in one of his first official acts as president, Donald Trump approved a measure repealing a requirement that mandated American oil and gas majors disclose how much money they had given to foreign governments. The measure, in essence, would have forced companies like Chevron and ExxonMobil to disclose if they were bribing corrupt, authoritarian governments overseas.

At the time, Trump’s move was met with widespread condemnation from pro-transparency groups. For Global Witness, an international NGO, the repeal represented an effort to “enable the corruption President Trump told us all he would end,” with the decision “pos[ing] a grave threat to U.S. national security.” A statement from Publish What You Pay, a group of civil society organizations that pushes for financial transparency, described the repeal as a “retrogressive step for oil, gas and mining industry transparency and for the global battle against corruption.”

The administration, however, paid no mind to those concerns and repealed the regulations anyway.

Since then, things have only gotten worse.

Trump judicial nominee mocked laws protecting women from pay discrimination and sexual harassment

The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on Wednesday on Texas Supreme Court Justice Don Willett’s nomination to a federal appeals court. Two decades earlier, however, Willett questioned the need for laws protecting women against discrimination in a memo to his boss, then-Gov. George W. Bush (R-TX).

The memo mocked the policy positions of the Texas Federation of Business and Professional Women, which Bush planned to praise in an official proclamation. “Issue-wise,” Willett wrote regarding the Texas women’s group, “they support the ERA, affirmative action, abortion rights, legislation adding teeth to the Equal Pay Act, etc. and they regularly line up with the AFL-CIO and similar groups.”

The future judicial nominee also urged Bush to strip language from the proclamation supporting women’s right to receive equal pay for equal work, as well as their right to be free from sexual harassment in the workplace. “I resist the proclamation’s talk of ‘glass ceilings,’ pay equity (an allegation that some studies debunk), the need to place kids in the care of rented strangers, sexual discrimination/harassment, and the need generally for better ‘working conditions’ for women (read: more government).”

Willett concluded his brief memo with a rhetorical flourish. “The proclamation can perhaps be re-worded to omit these ideological hot buttons while still respecting the contributions of talented women professionals. But I strongly resist anything that shows we believe the hype.”

Registered nurse fights collective punishment of Trump inauguration protesters

Britt Lawson, a registered nurse from Pittsburgh, traveled to Washington in January to serve as a volunteer medic for a weekend of protest activities against president-elect Donald Trump.

Lawson ended up spending most of the weekend incarcerated by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). She and more than 200 other people, including journalists and legal observers, were indiscriminately rounded up by police on inauguration day and thrown into jail.

“I went to D.C. to use the skills I’ve learned as a nurse in order to support and care for folks standing up against what I view as a system of violence and oppression that will be made worse under a Trump administration,” Lawson said in an interview.

In an unprecedented move, U.S. federal prosecutors turned what would have been a normal legal response to a protest — presenting charges to a court against specific protesters who engage in vandalism or violence — into a broader attack on dissent. They charged Lawson and her fellow arrestees — who have become known as the “J20” resistance — with several felonies that could send them to prison for more than 60 years.

Rex Tillerson needs to be IMPEACHED, not now, but yesterday, he is a fucking traitor, he has gutted the State Department with the help of the malignant narcissistic asshole, that just came back with meeting with his comrade in arms Putin.

This country ever since its inception has had U.S. marines guarding the embassies around the world, the money is allocated from the State Department to supplement the defense department on putting those guards at those United State Properties-----------in other words it is in the budget, it was not like that when I was running around the world in the military and have it given to some private contractors, it does not save money.

Rex Tillerson and his fucking traitorous team let out a contract for $2.8 million on a no bid contract and gave it to the oligarchy kid who's father use to be buddies with Putin when that KGB spy was stationed in Dresden, and the father was also a KGB officer.

Why in the fuck would Tillerson do this? he has gutted 30% of the staff at the state department, and this asshole needs to be brought before a committee, Intelligence / Foreign Relations, or the committee that allocates these funds like Defense, and testify under oath about this shit -----------end of story.

So in closing on this rant I again encourage all the readers of this story to call there representatives and demand some answers, and not this BS, and be given that "I will look into it" answers, but some answers-----------------thank you

This is a total disgrace and a national security issue!!!!!

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/14/world/europe/embassy-moscow-kgb.html

MOSCOW — When President Vladimir V. Putin in July ordered American diplomatic missions in Russia to slash their staff by 755 employees, the State Department said it would need time to assess the “impact of such a limitation and how we will respond to it.”

Part of that response has now become clear: To make up for the loss of security guards axed in the Russian-mandated staff cuts, Washington has hired a private Russian company that grew out of a security business co-founded by Mr. Putin’s former K.G.B. boss, an 82-year-old veteran spy who spent 25 years planting agents in Western security services and hunting down their operatives.

Under a $2.8 million no-bid contract awarded by the Office of Acquisitions in Washington, security guards at the American Embassy in Moscow and at consulates in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok will be provided by Elite Security Holdings, a company closely linked to the former top K.G.B. figure, Viktor G. Budanov, a retired general who rose through the ranks to become head of Soviet counterintelligence.

Senate GOP tax bill will include repeal of ObamaCare mandate

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced Tuesday that the Senate tax bill will include language to repeal ObamaCare’s individual mandate, which could make it tougher for moderate Republicans to support.

Conservatives led by GOP Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas), Rand Paul (Ky.) and Tom Cotton (Ark.) pushed hard to include the provision, which would eliminate the federal penalty on people who do not buy health insurance. President Trump has also pushed for the provision to be part of the tax bill.

McConnell told reporters that adding the individual mandate repeal will make it easier to muster 50 votes to pass the bill.

“We’re optimistic that inserting the individual mandate repeal would be helpful and that’s obviously the view of the Senate Finance Committee Republicans as well,” McConnell said.

It will raise an estimated $300 billion to $400 billion over the next year that could be used to pay for lowering individual and business tax rates even further.

A Minnesota lawmaker attacked a new transgender city council member. Her apology was just as bad.

A Minnesota state lawmaker is under fire for a tweet and subsequent apology that both personally attack a newly minted member of the Minneapolis City Council for being transgender.

Tuesday night, Andrea Jenkins became the first trans woman of color elected to a city’s governing body, winning a seat on the Minneapolis City Council. State Rep. Mary Franson responded Wednesday morning by tweeting, “A guy who thinks he’s a girl is still a guy with a mental health condition.” The tweet has since been deleted.

.@MaryFranson is still an embarrassment to Alexandria and Minnesota.

. @RepMaryFranson pic.twitter.com/NL4EuUpzcD

— Mike McFeely (@MikeMcFeelyWDAY) November 9, 2017

Thursday night, Franson issued an “apology,” wherein she reiterated her belief that no one can change their gender and refused “to go along with fantasy and participate in it”:

There are times I don’t practice kindness. For that I am sorry. While I do believe that one can’t change their gender based on their feelings, I didn’t need to tweet out my thoughts. God created man and woman but then sin entered the world and disrupted his perfect plan. He then sent His one and only son, Jesus, to take away our sins and to restore a broken relationship with God. I should have shown grace and not come across the way I did. For that I apologize. I do not apologize for not conforming to the PC world where I’m supposed to go along with fantasy and participate in it. This isn’t the first time I’ve offended the social justice warriors and it won’t be the last.

HuffPost: Zinke Inquired About Redesigning Interior Department Flag

By CAITLIN MACNEAL Published NOVEMBER 14, 2017 12:11 PM

Upon taking office, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke looked into redesigning the department’s flag and making it bigger, emails surfaced by the Huffington Post on Tuesday show.

Zinke started inquiring about making the changes just one week after he became the department’s secretary, according to the Huffington Post. In an email one week after Zinke took office, an Interior Department staffer said that Zinke would be able to make the department’s flag and the interior secretary’s flag bigger, so long as they are not larger than the American flag that flies atop the building, according to an email obtained by the Huffington Post. The staffer said it was unclear whether Zinke could change the flags’ design, per the report.

As secretary, Zinke has started a new tradition of raising a secretarial flag atop the department’s Washington, D.C., headquarters when he is in the building, and raising the deputy secretary’s flag when Zinke is out of town.

He has also redecorated his office in the Interior Department with the heads of an elk and a bison mounted on the wall, the Huffington Post reported. He also brought in a taxidermy grizzly bear and bobcat, per the Huffington Post.

Zinke is one of several cabinet leaders to come under scrutiny for his spending, particularly on air travel. He used military and private planes to attend events in Montana and the Caribbean islands.

So this asshole thinks that its just fine and dandy to decorate the office he goes to with animals, that are in decline, in many parts of the country, which they use to inhabit all over the country at one point-----------------and the purpose of this, is to treat these animals as trophies---------------------sick fuck
