In certain circumstances, you can NOT let party politics be your guide.

Common courtesy is one circumstance. Naturally, it's usually the Republicans who fall short, but we all have at one time or another, we're human.

"On the day after Veteran's Day in 2009, Gov. Sean Parnell declined the opportunity to travel to Elmendorf Air Force Base and attend a 15-minute speech by President Barack Obama.

Parnell was in Anchorage that day, but he said he skipped the ceremonies because he wasn’t granted a tete-a-tete with Obama during the president's two-hour refueling stop."

Please at least give me a direction! I saw this saying - WHO wrote it?

"We exist to bear witness.
We had to.
The infinite us to see it.
Without the perceiver,
The perceived does not exist.

That gives us leverage.
Don't look until
you get what you want."

From the Daily News-Miner: Record warm temperatures expected in Interior Alaska

FAIRBANKS - Interior Alaska's snow cover is shrinking fast, and record temperatures forecast for the rest of the week will speed the process even more.
Temperatures from Fairbanks south to the Alaska Range could reach record highs on Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service. A ridge of high pressure is stuck over the area, and a low-pressure system moving into the Gulf of Alaska is expected to pump warm air north.

Highs from the 40s to mid-50s are expected under mostly sunny skies.

46 above at 4:50 p.m. in March is just WEIRD. I don't much like it - but the kitties do. The first climate change denier I run into at the store tonight is going to get kicked in the shins.

WHAT A SLED DOG RACE!!!!!!!!!!!

Family affair: Dallas, Mitch Seavey cruise to one-two Iditarod finish

NOME -- Behind a strong team of nine champion Alaskan huskies, 28-year-old Dallas Seavey from Willow rolled under the burled arch on Front Street in this fabled gold mining town in the wee hours of Wednesday to seal the deal on a victory in the 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race and put the Seavey stamp solidly on the current era of Alaska dog mushing.

AND HIS DADDY FINISHES SECOND! Wow, what a race - I was hoping for Aliy, but this one also just rocked! Starting from Fairbanks, one of the coldest Iditarod's on record, decent snow................ GO PUPPIES!!!!

As usual, California is ahead of the game - this time on mandatory vaccinations.

California Bill Would Make It Harder For Parents To Say No To Vaccines
The Huffington Post | By Lydia O'Connor

Two California lawmakers introduced a bill Wednesday morning that would eliminate parents' ability to opt out of school-mandated vaccines because of personal beliefs.

The bill from state Sens. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento), a pediatrician, and Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica), an educator, comes amid the worst measles outbreak in 20 years with more than 100 cases recorded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The flare-up is anchored in California, where many affluent communities have dangerously low vaccination rates and around 13,000 current kindergarten students are not vaccinated, according to an analysis by the San Jose Mercury News.

(snip) If the bill is passed as filed, parents may only skip having their children vaccinated in cases where it is prevented by physical or medical conditions.

"Immunization of a person shall be required for admission to a school or institution ... unless the child has a physical condition or medical circumstances that contraindicate vaccination as prescribed in Section 120370," the measure reads.

It's bad enough endangering your own children; it's unconscionable endangering the children of others.

Hi, all. I'm an Alaskan very proud of our President today!! Just joined this group so

am not quite familiar, yet, with the discussions. However, the Alaska Dispatch News has a really great article about the Beaufort Sea, now 9.8 million acres protected by our President, and bowhead whales. I hope y'all enjoy it! Quite chilly here in the Interior today at 44 below - think warm thoughts for us!

Bowhead whale songs are complex and copied, new study shows
Yereth Rosen Alaska Dispatch News January 26, 2015

Inuit legend says Sedna, the beautiful but tragic goddess of the ocean, sings underwater to give detailed instructions to the whales and other sea animals.

Now scientists have new information about the level of detail in the songs that bowhead whales sing to one another when they are migrating into the Beaufort Sea each spring.

The researchers documented 12 unique songs sung by at least 32 individual whales while swimming off Point Barrow. It is the greatest number of songs cataloged during the population’s spring migration, possibly a result of the growing population, says the study, a joint project of scientists from Bates College, the University of Washington, the North Slope Borough, Norway’s FRAM-High North Research Centre for Climate and the Environment and Cornell University.

Environmentally a very sensitive Sea, and energy gets in there because Big Oil and all the Kochsuckers really want to drill, baby, drill. Pres. Obama just blocked that kick!

Glad to be here, friends. I hope this post is okay!
