Judge Engoron Tears Donald Trump to Shreds
The judge ruling over Donald Trump's civil fraud trial wrote a scathing rebuttal of the former president's defense while rejecting the Republican's latest attempt to have the case decided in his favor.
Judge Arthur Engoron, who is overseeing the case in which Trump is accused by New York Attorney General Letitia James of fraudulently inflating the value of his properties and assets in financial statements, dismissed the former president's appeal for a directed ruling to clear him of any wrongdoing for the fifth time on Monday.
Engoron has already ruled that Trump committed fraud while filing financial statements for years, and is expected to decide on the size of the punishment against the former president sometime around late January or early February. Trump, the frontrunner in the GOP presidential primary, denies all wrongdoing and says the case is a politically motivated "witch hunt" that aims to stop him from winning the 2024 election.
Trump faces being banned from doing business in New York state, having his properties removed from his control, or being forced to pay a fine totaling hundreds of millions of dollars.
While rejecting Trump's argument to rule in his favor, Engorn highlighted some of the "fatal flaws" in the former president's defense, including the testimony from one of their expert witnesses in the trial, New York University Stern School of Business research professor Eli Bartov.

Senate Republicans 'scurrying away from reporters' after Trump's Hitleresque rant: report
Republicans in Congress do not appear eager to discuss former President Donald Trump's rants about immigrants "poisoning the blood" of the United States.
Politico's Playbook reports that Republicans on Capitol Hill are "scurrying away from reporters" who want to ask them about Trump using rhetoric that historians have warned echoes late Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
That said, some Republican Senators were willing to go on the record to mildly chide the former president for employing the rhetoric of one of the greatest mass murderers in human history.
I obviously dont agree with that," said Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV). "I mean, were all children of immigrants."
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) described Trump's rant as "unhelpful rhetoric," while Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) said he "certainly wouldnt have said that" about immigrants.
Notably, no one called on Trump to apologize for his remarks, which he has now made on multiple occasions.
Politico also tried to track down Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) to ask for her opinion on the remarks given that she has taken a keen interest in condemning anti-Semitic remarks made by Ivy League college administrators, professors, and students.

US Cannabis Consumers Now Prefer High Potency Premium Products, Rosin And Infused Pre-Rolls: Who's Buying What?
(ME TOO)
The U.S. legal cannabis market has witnessed significant shifts in 2023. Factors like potency, taste and premium packaging are now driving consumer choices, with a particular preference for the nuanced flavors of solventless products like live rosin, explains BDSA analyst Brendan Mitchel-Chesebro.
He notes a decrease in the cannabis extracts segment to just 6% of total cannabis sales, down from over 10% previously. Meanwhile, solventless product sales within this category rose from 14% in Q2 2022 to 18% in Q3 2023, with rosin dominating 84% of this segment.
Infused Pre-Rolls And Pricing Trends
Infused pre-rolls have seen a 63% increase in average retail price compared to non-infused ones, reflecting the added value and costs of concentrates.
Despite industry-wide price compression, infused pre-rolls maintain their premium pricing, indicating a market trend towards high-quality, specialized products.
Specifically, rosin disposables grew by 86% and live resin disposables, by 24%. Rosin disposables are priced 25% higher on average than the overall disposables category, signaling a shift towards premium offerings as well.
Demand For Minor Cannabinoid-Infused Edibles
Minor cannabinoids such as CBN and CBG are gaining traction in the edibles market. These products command higher prices than THC or CBD-only edibles due to their consistent, targeted effects like aiding sleep or pain relief. BDSA predicts continued growth and innovation, particularly in the hemp-derived cannabinoid market, in 2024.
