Has anyone seen the Reagan documentary on Showtime? It's like nothing has changed. Ever.

The response to “The Reagans,” a four-part documentary beginning Sunday on Showtime, will most likely reflect the stark cultural divide underscored by the recent presidential election . Half of America will already know and agree with the case it makes against Ronald Reagan, while the other half will never be persuaded.

Directed by Matt Tyrnauer, the series provides the basic timeline of the Reagan presidency and the lives of him and his wife and White House counterpart, Nancy. A small roster of journalists, biographers and academics (for a documentary of this length) provides analysis while a gallery of Reagan-era luminaries offers personal testimony: James Baker, George Shultz, Grover Norquist, Ed Rollins, Ken Khachigian, emerging from the mist of the 1980s.

“The Reagans” is a consistently revisionist enterprise, resting on the premise that Ronald Reagan has been treated far too well by history — that he’s seen today as an exemplary president. That assessment isn’t as widely shared as the series indicates, but Tyrnauer is on firmer ground with his corollary argument that Reagan’s election was the pivot that brought American politics and public life to where they are today.

To that end, the series provides a steady succession of parallels between Reagan and Donald J. Trump, none labeled as such but all difficult to miss. Reagan campaign posters declare “Let’s make America great again”; Reagan poses with tall stacks of paper representing his bold initiatives; references are made to third-rate appointees dismantling the government and to regulations being rolled back; the Christian right ascends as a voting bloc and source of money; a new and deadly disease is ignored.

The charge it levels most strongly and at greatest length, especially in the earlier episodes, is that Reagan engaged in “dog whistle” racism as a campaigner, and that his economic policies as president were fundamentally shaped by racist stereotyping and fearmongering. (“Reagan’s reputation as a dog whistler has not had a sufficiently negative impact on his legacy,” a historian opines, making the revisionist impulse literal.) The series makes a familiar and convincing case, and an ugly taped snippet of Reagan discussing African delegates to the United Nations (with Richard Nixon, no less) suggests that his attitudes weren’t simply opportunistic.

Dr. "It's just like the flu" Drew Pinsky has Covid

Dr. Drew Pinsky has tested positive for COVID-19.

The radio show host's official Instagram account shared the news on Tuesday alongside a photo of him in bed. (His wife, Susan Pinsky, apparently tested negative for coronavirus and wears a mask in the selfie.)

The positive test result comes one day after documenting his coronavirus test on social media. In the video, a coughing Pinksy says, "This better be COVID or I'm gonna be pissed," then caused further controversy when he shared the post saying he was "wishing for COVID."

"After three days of fever and the Zelenko protocol plus steroids, feeling better and getting another test for flu and Covid! Goodtimes," he tweeted. "Wishing for Covid since this virus is not fun. Stay well, wear a mask!"

When followers questioned why he would wish for COVID-19, he replied, "Hoping for Covid so I achieve some degree of immunity I could go back out and treat patients without risk of becoming sick and taking another hospital bed away from patients needing care."

In another response, Pinsky added, "If your assumption is that what I have been suffering through is not brutal you are very much mistaken."

qanon missed another one... Remember Nathan Larson the pro-rape, misogynist pedophile?

Well guess what...

DENVER — A Virginia man who ran for political office two years ago and has advocated white supremacy, pedophilia and rape, is accused of kidnapping a 12-year-old California girl, authorities said Saturday.

Nathan Daniel Larson, 40, of Catlett, Virginia, was arrested Monday at Denver International Airport on a misdemeanor charge of harboring a minor, KDVR reported. Larson, who ran for a congressional seat in Virginia, faces felony charges in California for kidnapping, child abduction, soliciting child pornography from a minor and meeting a child for the intention of sex, according to The Fauqier Times.

Larson is currently in the Denver County Jail, the newspaper reported. He is scheduled to have a court hearing in Denver on Thursday, when an extradition request will be made to transport him to the Fresno County Jail.

According to Fresno Police spokesperson Tony Botti, Larson allegedly met his victim through social media in mid-October and coerced her to run away with him, KMGH reported. Deputies said Larson flew to Fresno from Virginia on Dec. 13 and then traveled to the girl’s home, the television station reported.

During a news conference Saturday, Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said Larson persuaded the girl to take a ride-share from her home around 2 a.m. so they could go to the Fresno Yosemite International Airport together.

“This particular case is extremely disturbing,” Mims said. “It is obvious that Larson had the ability to be in contact with children across the nation, and the willingness and the means to travel to abduct them. We believe that there are other victims out there.”

“Larson made her wear a long hair wig to alter her appearance. He also told her to act as though she was disabled and unable to speak to ensure she would not converse with anyone at the airport while making their way onto the airplane,” the sheriff’s office said. “Detectives contacted law enforcement authorities (in Denver) and asked that they check the airport for Larson and the child. A Denver Police officer assigned to the local FBI Task Force located Larson and arrested him. Agents rescued the girl, who was uninjured, and made arrangements to have her reunited with her family in Fresno, which she was later on Monday night.”

50 years of tax cuts for the rich failed to trickle down, economics study says

Many knew this 40 years ago...

Tax cuts for the wealthy have long drawn support from conservative lawmakers and economists who argue that such measures will "trickle down" and eventually boost jobs and incomes for everyone else. But a new study from the London School of Economics says 50 years of such tax cuts have only helped one group — the rich.

The new paper, by David Hope of the London School of Economics and Julian Limberg of King's College London, examines 18 developed countries — from Australia to the United States — over a 50-year period from 1965 to 2015. The study compared countries that passed tax cuts in a specific year, such as the U.S. in 1982 when President Ronald Reagan slashed taxes on the wealthy, with those that didn't, and then examined their economic outcomes.

Per capita gross domestic product and unemployment rates were nearly identical after five years in countries that slashed taxes on the rich and in those that didn't, the study found.

But the analysis discovered one major change: The incomes of the rich grew much faster in countries where tax rates were lowered. Instead of trickling down to the middle class, tax cuts for the rich may not accomplish much more than help the rich keep more of their riches and exacerbate income inequality, the research indicates.

"Based on our research, we would argue that the economic rationale for keeping taxes on the rich low is weak," Julian Limberg, a co-author of the study and a lecturer in public policy at King's College London, said in an email to CBS MoneyWatch. "In fact, if we look back into history, the period with the highest taxes on the rich — the postwar period — was also a period with high economic growth and low unemployment."

Tulsi Gabbard Introduces Bill to Block Abortion of Fetuses Capable of Feeling Pain

"But she is a progressive, statist!!!" - a right wing extremist supporter of her
Can't wait for the same ones who defend her transphobic legislation to defend her anti abortion stance.
This is just validating what we said about her. Anyone remember what we said about Biden and Kamala ?
Buckle up.

https://news.yahoo.com/tulsi-gabbard-introduces-bill-block-191930470.html

Representative Tulsi Gabbard (D., Hawaii) introduced a bill on Wednesday that would outlaw abortions for fetuses capable of feeling pain.

The pro-life group Democrats for Life in America announced the content of the bill on Facebook and in an online petition. While the bill has been submitted to the House, its full text was not immediately available, and it was not clear what week of pregnancy Gabbard’s bill designates as the limit for obtaining an abortion. Similar legislation has designated the 20th week of pregnancy as the cutoff.

“Former Democratic Presidential Candidate Tulsi Gabbard introduced her SECOND Pro-Life bill this week, which would amend Title 18 of the U.S. code to give pain-capable fetuses rights under the law,” DFLA wrote on Facebook. “Tulsi has previously voted against this bill three times, but is now the SPONSOR of the new bill. This is proof that DFLA can convince Democrats to join the right side of history.”

'We want them infected': Trump appointee demanded 'herd immunity' strategy, emails reveal

This is a repost for those tired of giving Rawstory clicks...

A top Trump appointee repeatedly urged top health officials to adopt a "herd immunity" approach to Covid-19 and allow millions of Americans to be infected by the virus, according to internal emails obtained by a House watchdog and shared with POLITICO.

“There is no other way, we need to establish herd, and it only comes about allowing the non-high risk groups expose themselves to the virus. PERIOD," then-science adviser Paul Alexander wrote on July 4 to his boss, Health and Human Services assistant secretary for public affairs Michael Caputo, and six other senior officials.

"Infants, kids, teens, young people, young adults, middle aged with no conditions etc. have zero to little risk….so we use them to develop herd…we want them infected…" Alexander added.

"t may be that it will be best if we open up and flood the zone and let the kids and young folk get infected" in order to get "natural immunity…natural exposure," Alexander wrote on July 24 to Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn, Caputo and eight other senior officials. Caputo subsequently asked Alexander to research the idea, according to emails obtained by the House Oversight Committee's select subcommittee on coronavirus.

Alexander also argued that colleges should stay open to allow Covid-19 infections to spread, lamenting in a July 27 email to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield that “we essentially took off the battlefield the most potent weapon we had...younger healthy people, children, teens, young people who we needed to fastly [sic] infect themselves, spread it around, develop immunity, and help stop the spread.”

Registered Republican Behind Hoax Antifa 'Protesters Needed' Craigslist Ad

Officials in Nebraska managed to track down a person responsible for creating a hoax Craigslist ad which claimed antifa were offering people money to protest in two cities in the state.

The listing went viral in June after screenshots of it were widely shared on social media even after the original advert was taken down after just a few hours.

The advert read "protesters needed" before claiming that the far-left movement were offering to pay "up to 1,000 people $25 per hour for protesters in Lincoln, NE and Omaha, NE."

"Basically we want to cause as much chaos and destruction as possible," the ad said.

"This will take place every night through the BLM protest on June 13. You will be paid nightly, and can come and go as you please.

"We want chaos to help further our agenda."

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that a 33-year-old man from Lincoln has been confirmed to have created the hoax ad following an investigation by the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.

The man was visited by the sheriff's office and the FBI in October. The 33-year-old, a registered Republican, confirmed he never paid anyone to take part in a protest or cause disorder and that he "didn't want to cause any violence or unrest," Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said.

The man said he didn't know the ad would end up causing such a commotion.

Officials say the man was told that it "was not funny," reported KETV.

Houchin said the man is not facing any charges as there's no proof he intended to cause violence or paid someone to do so. They had considered to ticket him for disturbing the peace or arrest him for inciting a riot, but decided against it and closed the case.

Does the US media serve the public or is it a HR dept. for the ruling class?

I was discussing events from the late 1980s with a friend recently. We're talking race relations, predator teens, crack babies, far right extremists, etc... and noticed that things really haven't changed at all.

We then discussed the way the US media covered progressive movements, the anti-war protests during W, Occupy Wall St., the women's march etc. and noticed that they seemed to bend over backward to undermine every one of them.

So I ask, do they serve the public or the masters?

You tell me.

Thank you in advance.

Can any of the lawyers representing Trump be disbarred for their ridiculousness and incessant lying?

I'm not a legal eagle but what do those in the know think? Can Giuliani, Powell, etc. suffer anything for their obvious bullshit?

Thank you in advance.

Does anyone else think the MSM will be far more critical of Biden than they were of Trump?

For example if Biden were to pull the same crap Trump has since the election, would the MSM state outright that it was an attempted coup or would they beat around the bush like they are now?
