blurry screen alert

Members of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment, also known as "The Old Guard" are staying with the Tomb of the Unknown Solider at Arlington National Cemetery despite blizzard conditions slamming the area.

"The Tomb Guards maintain a constant vigil at the Tomb no matter the weather conditions," states the group's Facebook page.

Major cities, roadways and airports along the East Coast were largely immobilized Saturday by a massive and deadly snowstorm that showed no signs of letting up.

Public transportation in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., was shut down as local officials called on residents to hunker down and stay off the streets for a second day.

As of early Saturday, more than 60 million people were under blizzard, winter storm or freezing rain warnings. The storm's effects stretched from Georgia to Massachusetts, according to Weather.com.

Despite the blizzard conditions, the guards remained in place. The images that they have shared are a stirring depiction of how dedicated our nation's soldiers are.

His backyard ice rink honors a stepdaughter’s memory. Now county inspectors may close it.

Marc Kohn spent nearly $40,000 and 400 hours building a hockey rink behind his house in rural Poolesville, Md., a winter twist on “Field of Dreams.”

He longed for his childhood days in Boston, skating on neighborhood ponds for hours. And he wanted to honor his stepdaughter Melanie Osborne, a lifelong hockey fan who recently died.

Kohn, 51, called his backyard project Mel’s Rink, hung her name in Christmas lights and invited town residents to play. Since opening two weeks ago, dozens of kids and adults have zipped around the synthetic ice for free.

But this week county inspectors showed up — without their skates. Now Mel’s Rink is in jeopardy.

“It’s a lovely idea, and we understand it’s a labor of love, but it has to be the right place for it,” said Diane Schwartz Jones, with Montgomery County’s department of permitting services.

Chicago’s First Homicide Of 2016: Man Shot To Death In Grand Boulevard

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/01/01/chicagos-first-homicide-of-2016-man-shot-to-death-in-grand-boulevard/

Killers couldn't even wait 2 hours to start murdering. Chicago better do something about all these murders. They have had 5 straight years of increased number of murders. Looks like number 6 may happen as well. What gun laws can Chicago pass to clean up this mess. They might be the worst in the country.
