I am 87, born 11/1935 - hoping to reach 88 soon.

I remember when Pearl Harbor was attacked on a Sunday; my father came home from Mass into the kitchen and said "The Japs have bombed Pearl Harbor. Many memories of WWII - paper drives, scrap metal drives, saving grease in tin cans, stamps for gas, sugar, meat, shoes. Soldiers marching through downtown, my father & I watching, he with tears in his eyes. Also when a friend told me FDR was in a wheel-chair I didn't believe it. Remember FDR's death. -So much more.

PS - Check the math re our friend above. - Perhaps a typo...

I understand. I don't want to blow this opportunity to reunite.

I have not had covid & am up in years.
So many have had covid in one form or another & it has mutated so much that some, even vaccinated, are getting repeat cases.
This person is somewhat a loner - doesn't go out in crowds particularly.

My prayer was answered today; intercession of St. Rita & St. Monica

I'll sleep better tonight.
Family member has been estranged since covid vaccinations became available; called today and coming to town for several days.
May all be well as family gets together.

I have had a Facebook page for ca 12+ years.

I mainly use it for keeping contact with nieces and nephews out-of-town, about whom I'd know practically nothing of their lives without such input.

I also inform them (and anyone else who cares to see it) family history/genealogy, as I'm in effect the matriarch of our line, and this is an easy way to pass on family history and photos.
There are also certain pages/groups of interest to me, and to which I contribute bits and anecdotes; ex. local history of my neighborhood, and certain sites relating to my religion and politics.
I can block anyone or most subjects/sites if I find them annoying.

Because I'm elderly, many of my contacts have died along the way, so I still have a number of deceased ones among my "friends".
Overall, I find Facebook useful, and check it daily.

Not necessarily true re doctors not being able to release him if there is inadequate care.

I haven't experienced such my self, but read frequently that hospitals will not keep patients when they have deemed patient ready for release, and, apparently, many are sent home to be on their own.
I'm not defending such treatment, but have read of such, even here on DU, frequently.

My daughter, born a leftie, taught herself to write with her right hand.

Likely she, being a sensitive type, felt more comfortable writing as the majority in her classes.

She went to public school for kindergarten and first grade, then to a school where she was taught by nuns, second through high school. She was not hit or scolded by any of her teachers, nuns or secular - late 60's and 70's - for this or any other actions.

Forty years later she had a left hemispheric stroke, leaving her right hand unable to write or grasp anything.
So now she is back to where nature intended her to be - a leftie once again.

Sing songs that are familiar and upbeat and that you know and like.

Any songs with their names in it:
I sang "Little Annie Rooney", "Mary is a grand old name", "Charlie my Boy", and "Peter Cottontail" to my brood.

George M. Cohan songs are great - "You're a Grand Old Flag", "Give My Regards to Broadway".
How about "Hard-hearted Hannah" - my father used to sing that one and I loved it.
"Bicycle built for two".

Have fun!!
