No Vested Interest
No Vested Interest's JournalOn vacation in Hilton Head SC, with spouse & two adult children.
Turned on TV just after first plane hit; they still didn't know if was a small private plane or a larger one, and was it accidentally hit?
Then we saw the second plane hit the second tower and all hell broke loose re speculation.
Reports of other planes ready to attack the US, then the plane down near Shanksville PA, the another hit the Pentagon.
Watching bodies leap or fall through the air to escape the heat and flames.
People waving or even trying to escape out windows to another floor, then slipping and falling to their death.
You all know the rest.
And that terrible evening and night when people posted pictures and notes asking if any one had seen their loved one.
I'll never forget it.
Oh, I get it now.
Obviously, Puerto Ricans, like Mexicans, can vary greatly in ethnic appearance.
Thanks for the enlightenment.
My local CVS has been pushing "FREE flu vaccine" for several weeks now.
I just happened to look over a Medicare report that showed the Kroger store where I got the flu shot last December was paid about $48 for the vaccine by Medicare, plus about $12 to administer the vaccine.
So, obviously, flu shots are a moneymaker for the pharmacies.
Are you doing any sightseeing? Chicago Art Institute? Museum of Science and Industry?
You might like to try a Polish restaurant, for a change of pace.
Starapolski is good, though not in the downtown area.
It's a toddling town!
Seriously - It all depends on who you're with, where you go, what you see, and --the weather.
In other words - like anyplace else.
Enjoy your vacation!
Right wing radio is to blame, IMO. Many people (especially men) drive many hours per day
and apparently keep their radios tuned in to whatever talk show is on, to keep themselves awake and mentally occupied.
We all know that there is very little Dem-leaning talk radio, and a dial-full of right-wing talk. These guys hear hour upon hour of this drivel, and it's all spiced up with hyperbole and stuff to make the listener feel good about himself for joining in.
Then, when they take a break or enter a place of business, more often than not, they find Fox News on the screen when lunching, etc.
Day after day, week after week, it's all they hear, it becomes their reality, and the damage is done.
Leftish radio, when you can find it, is so civil and reasonable, it doesn't get the blood flowing.
And Young is 84 (not that it matters);
so, to h im, most women on Earth are "young lady".
We all know that the first year of our loss is the hardest.
Each day is a reminder of what that particular day, month, or season was in years past.
It can help (sometimes) to remember that this huge loss is part of the human experience.
One half of all those who are married will be widowed.
We are part of that huge mass of humanity, past and present, who are wending our way through these difficult days.
I do not wish to diminish your hurt and pain at this time.
Just trying to put a little "big picture" into your thoughts.
Do come back to this group as you wish and need during the coming months.
OMG - I knew about Jose following behind, but there's also TS Katia,
whirling around in the Bay of Campeche.
Thank you for sharing Kathy and her story with us. Peace be with you. nt
