Spouse and I volunteered as ushers at the large theatre where Broadway shows

were presented. Wonderful way to see latest live performances without paying.
Ushers at various theatres - live shows, as well as symphonies, are frequently needed.

We also volunteered at at our city's floral conservatory for their annual butterfly show. Fairly hot, but we were also given some free tickets for our family members.
Also, our city had a large outdoor garden show where we volunteered.

We found that volunteering for special occasion fit better with our living schedules, though that might not be the same for everyone.

In my town, those who deliver Meals on Wheels are given one

of the meals.
I have a friend who delivered Meals on wheels for at least 15 years. sometimes his wife went along and they got meals on those days. He went to one large senior living complex, so it was relatively easy, but a commitment, of course.

They could well afford food, but it was nice to have those meals available in the freezer.

Crosstown rivalry: Xavier beat Univ. of Cincinnati tonight in basketball!

I don't remember the score, but it wasn't close.

UC has hard a hard day today, in that Gov. Kasich spoke at their graduation today.
Listening to Kasich would be a real downer in and of itself.

From what you say, she sounds like a good possibility.

Guess we'll let Ed FitzGerald figure it out.

So many choices... How about

Habitat for Humanity?

Ah - so that is how the problem of a dead friend is handled?

I didn't know you could have someone memorialized.
And the family has to do it?

I have one dead friend - she died this past spring, a real loss to me and my family.
I've noticed that my brother, who hardly uses FB, has a friend who has been dead for several years.

Because of these two, I have wondered how many on FB have died, as that artificially raises their count.
Does FB have any way of knowing and/or deleting dead people?

I also wonder how many fake accounts FB has.
I notice it in the Letters to the Editor section of my digital newspaper, and it ticks me off.

When I was first married, early 60's, living in a 4-unit apartment,

the landlady had in the basement for tenant's and her own use an implement similar to the Ironer.
Only we called it a mangle, and it was not an unusual item at the time.

It did approximately the same thing as this "ironer", and I was foolish enough to iron my husband's underwear - boxers and tee-shirts, as well as sheets, which were mostly all cotton at that time and did wrinkle and were softer when ironed on the "mangle.
That all ended with the arrival of first child, 10 months after marriage.

Everything old is new again.

According to an OP in the Lounge a few days ago

many children (now DUers) believe in Santa until 10-12 years.
This is a tricky issue, because we all know the children will learn sooner or later, and more often than not, it will be from an older child.

You're correct re Alicia Reece= state Rep. Thanks for the heads up.

Denise Driehaus is good, will be even better as time goes on. However, I would think they would be looking for a candidate that would connect more directly with African-American community.
Otoh, being a female, that would bring certain positives with it. Is she an effective campaigner?

The fifties are good, the sixties are good, the 70's

not so great.
Have a great next ten years.

P.S. - We all feel about 25 in our heads.
Too bad others who see us only see "old person."

PPS - Careful with those sleeping pills!
