No Vested Interest
No Vested Interest's JournalAll we can do is resolve to not use their terminology ourselves,
in speech and in printed word.
Make them - and the world- think in our terms, at least when we are speaking.
I deeply object to the term "scandal", in this instance (HRC) and
in the many times Fox and other RW media have labeled their latest causes as such.
Unfortunately, we Dems let the RW get away with their labeling far too often.
I'm convinced that we should refer in all cases to the Dem national health program as "the ACA", and not adopt "Obamacare" as the term.
That's what I thought. nt
How old is Phyllis Schlafly now - I'm thinking 90, but I'll check.
Only the good die young, they say.
My Facebook relatives are conservative Republicans. I've hidden one-
a not-close in-law- and I just look at her page when I feel like it - when I'm mentally prepared- to see pics of her family. I've only met her once and she and husband had several babies I'd rather not ignore.
I do not respond to their rants. - It wouldn't get me anywhere, not worth the aggravation. Their mother -my deceased SIL - really did a job on them politically, so you can be sure I'm not going to change them. She also did a job on some of her children - history that can't be changed, but I was at least a little bit instrumental in opening up the family to contact with one another again.
OKay. nt
How many mushrooms can the economy realistically expect to absorb?
I've not noticed an especially high demand for mushrooms, and doubt they can be exported. If they were in higher demand, would that not already have been accomplished by existing underground mushroom farms?
Internet could be useful in retraining a certain portion of the local citizenry, if they're willing.
Education level is not especially high in that area.
I think I recall that Eleanor Roosevelt had a project to improve housing in Appalachia - back in the 30's or 40's, and that failed.
Maybe something above ground would provide more jobs.
(I do realize the tongue-in-cheek humor behind your answer. )
What are the states of KY and WV and the affected counties doing to address
this not-really-new problem?
This is not the first time an industry went into decline.
KY, NC and other states faced the decline/end of the tobacco economy. Admittedly, turning tobacco farms into other uses is easier than reclaiming and using coal mines, but we have smart, creative people all around who should/could come up with alternative industries or at least a plan, maybe even a long-term plan to reclaim these counties.
Another thought - could the homeless you saw be
Florida's homeless just escaping the heat for a few months?
