No Vested Interest
No Vested Interest's JournalBottom of the class at military academies = top of the class at most colleges?
Not necessarily so in 1950's.
Connections for entrance meant much more then, legacies as well, no female students there at that time.
You're not the only one. I commented on the rude moderator yesterday in an early OP
on the Netroots Nation brouhaha.
There was no need for him to text live as the whole room was full of people who could have done it just as well as he could. He was not indispensable in that role of live texter.
His job was to be a credible moderator, and he did a pretty poor job.
Edited for spelling.
Yes, today, and for decades in the recent past, Naval Academy students are smart.
I can assure, being of McCain's generation, that in the 1950's, all students at the Naval Academy, the other service academies, the Ivy League colleges, were not necessarily "smart."
Many were legacies, many had connections, some others were athletes, some talked a good enough game to make the entrance cut.
One other thing- there were no females in the service academies and the Ivies in the 1950's.
When females were admitted to the prestigious colleges in the late 60's, early 70's, those schools became much more competitive academically.
Look how rude the moderator is - using his smartphone , for twitter, no doubt-
while his invited guest, a serious presidential candidate, speaks.
PCIntern - How does one explain (medically/psychologically) the ever-present pursed lips?
That's not normal, no way.
At age 69, things begin to happen to some people.
Age and diminishment would be very hard to accept by a narcissist, I believe.
Webb also said last night in Iowa that he did not support the Iran deal.
He is too much of an individualist; he should not be the Dem. candidate for President.
It seems as though Republicans/Conservatives have "Conferences" every week.
I hate that C-Span and other media give them the publicity of broadcasting their talk, when they're really just rah-rah and money-raising ventures.
OTOH , I really enjoyed C-Span's broadcast of the Democratic Presidential candidates from Iowa last evening.
They were all articulate and offered interesting perspectives.
I did disagree with Jim Webb's non-endorsement of the Iran treaty agreement, though.

You do realize that if you make a small donation, you don't see ads?
I never see ads, and my donation is small.
Well worth it, as so many other sites have way too many ads.
I don't care that Republicans haven't apologized for the Iraq war -
I just want them to PAY for it.
The bills are still coming in, and Republicans have walked away from stepping up and taking responsibility for the actions they brought forth.
I respect Lincoln Chaffee, but he's way too much of a longshot for me
to give any energy in his direction.
