Not sure that it will do much for me.

I usually have my hands full keeping up with DU.
I'm really more interested in exchanging information than arguing or even discussing.
I'll likely register and look in, but don't know beyond that.
It is not a need.

The name may eventually become more popular, but

President Obama will become an ex-President, and it will be better to have the legislation stand on its own.

Agreed that no Democrat should campaign against it. It should be more than defended, it should be proclaimed.
Not even a need to say "it needs fixing" - that is a given with any legislation, and health care is so much more complex than Social Security, for example, where money is simply deducted from a paycheck and the individual's account is built up over many years.

I also believe that with the ACA, for the first time many Americans have had to think for themselves about their own medical and physical needs, about the risks one is willing to take in regard to personal health and insurance, and to make decisions in that regard.

In many ways, it's been mind-boggling, to digest all this information.

My comment is in regard to the "name" Obamacare,

not to the act itself, of which we can be very proud and grateful.

You know, as well as I, that single-payer is not possible at this time; best to give energies to that which is doable, such as raise the minimum wage, etc.

You also know that many Dem. office-holders are not willing to campaign with Pres. Obama and that many attack ads, which I see regularly here in Ohio on behalf of Mitch O'Connell in nearby KY demonize the Dem candidate's embrace of the ACA. In the hills of KY the people were signed up on kynect, the KY exchange. They were okay with that. When Obamacare- another name for the same thing- is mentioned, they said they were against it.

It's not always as simple as that.

In some states, people will sign up for the ACA, or state-named plan, but, when asked how they fell about Obamacare, may will say they're against it, even though they are enrolled.

I feel we Dems would do well to refer to health reform as the ACA, or a term other than Obamacare.

3/8 Irish, 3/8 French-Canadian, 1/4 German, and perhaps

a tad Native-American.

I've been doing genealogy for over 20 years.

Once the internet developed and people posted and connected to relatives they didn't know, I learned that there may have been Native-American through the French-Canadian line, as some of the ancestors were voyageurs on the Great Lakes, and intermarriage with N-As was common. I have no solid proof, though, as yet.

My father, who was of Irish descent mostly, denied the German part, because he wanted to be 100% Irish. His grandparent had changed the German type name to a similar Irish name, and that's all Dad needed to know. God rest his soul.

So very sorry. I hope you will continue to find your way here

to DU, where solace is freely given to one's heartache.

I did not know Terri, but clearly she was special, and she will be missed.

Recall that Kathleen Sebelius was the Democratic Governor of Kansas

less than six years ago.

I realize that she had married into a Republican family there (her Father-in-law was a Republican Congressman, I believe).
Still, Kansans must have known that they were electing a Democrat as their Governor.

Here in SW Ohio we're being treated to attack ads

on Alison Grimes, the Democratic opponent (in November) of Mitch McConnell.

In KY's primary tomorrow, Tuesday, McConnell has a TeaParty opponent; McConnell has to defeat him first, and he probably will do so.
I don't know if I can bear hearing political ads for six months.

Meanwhile ads boosting Ohio's Gov. Kasich have also started.

AARRGGHH.

I don't know, but suspect, there have been many instances such as yours.

We are and have always been a diverse country, and acceptance and respect for the views of others is part of our national makeup.
We may have often failed in that area, but there's always someone out there to pick up and try again, to get us back on track.

There was an OP the other day which shows a video of Hindu priest offering a prayer at a public meeting, during which he was most rudely interrupted several times. How sad.
We're better than that, and don't forget it.

Good for you. They have been so effective in moving our country forward.

Independents have been so well funded in political advertising.
Independents have brought forward so many ideas advancing our nation.

You are now preparing the USA you will live out your life in, and any future generations you leave your country to.
