I agree with sinkingfeeling.

I've noticed that newspaper writers, when speaking of people past ca 65, often refer to them as elderly:
" An elderly driver crashed..."
" An elderly woman is missing..."
"Elderly" conjures up frailty, a person bent over by age, etc.

The Creation Museum added a zip line in the past year or so,

presumably in an attempt to boost income.

Colbert Report is often repeated the next day ca 6:30, 7 or 7:30pm.

Check your local stations.

I used to buy items that you couldn't find in a department store from Sears catalogue.

For instance, the bottom half of my kids' sleepers used to get holes in them, while the tops were still fine. Sears sold just the bottom half, and solved many a problem for me.

There are times we have to back off and let our minds and bodies heaal and rejuvenate.

This may be the time for backing off for you and your wife.
Time to turn off the TV and radio discussions and look in on the rest of the world.

Take advantage of the season.
I hope your area is marking the holidays with some exhibits which will let you connect with the more peaceful elements in our world.
In my area we have a beautiful indoor flower conservatory, all adorned with nature's winter best.
There are many concerts at this time of the year - some free and worth the effort to distract us for a few hours.
I just snagged a free ticket to our symphony orchestra's concert of Handel's Messiah, with a huge chorus participating, on Dec. 21.
Put on some music you can sing to or hum along with.

No point in giving in to sad thoughts. - then the troublemakers win.

Everyone here understands your discomfort. Best wishes to you.

Sorry for you, but glad you had the consolation of having that last

conversation with her, and I would guess it was good for your mother to speak those words to you.
So many people do not get to have those moments.

I think the timing has changed - it's my choice to wait until spring.

Dr. told me ca a year ago that I could choose the timing.
I would have had the surgery this past fall but son announced he was getting married in Nov., so I needed to focus on that all fall.

Now I want to go to FL in Jan., so won't have the pre-op eye exam until I get back, followed by a pre-op physical (required), then, finally, the surgery.

I appreciate your good wishes. Everyone says it's an easy surgery, but the idea of inserting drops every four hrs weighs on me.

Woops - Typo. My vision's not too great.

Likely cataract surgery in spring.
Or - just careless and in haste. I'll correct.

Yeah, I understood this year's version only protects against ca 60% of flu viruses.
But, we depend on that guy - Mr. President- so much, I'd hate to see him laid low.

Sore throat not surprising considering all the people he's around,

including public spaces.
I'm presuming he's had a flu shot.
Lozenges help.
Also a little bourbon, lemon juice, hot water, & sweetener.
