Gender roles were more proscribed in an earlier day, even not so long ago.

Thus, widowers often remarried very quickly to have a woman in the house to care for motherless children.
Or they were sent to orphanages or boarding schools.

Men had little or no knowledge of meal preparation, and until ca 70 years ago, were mainly doing physical labor in the workforce.

Also, remember, there were no Social Security payments for minor children, until well into the 20th century.

My father's mother (my grandmother) died when he was one month old, in 1905. Luckily, there were several young unmarried aunts, in addition to his grandmother, and he and his sister were well-mothered in young childhood, but he and his sister attended various boarding schools, of which there were many at that time, due to early parental deaths.

Congresswoman Roby is an embarassment to the Alabama district

that elected her.
Inarticulate blather.
Her constituents probably felt proud that they were so progressive to elect a woman, but she is a poor representation of an intelligent, well-informed woman.

You're stating the obvious, Travis, though it's likely in reverse -

They got together with Powers that Be, and, after having their slots in the Ten, put up the money -
which was/is easily accessible to them - to get the signatures and to advertise.

And, yet, DUers constantly complain about some candidates being too connected with the money/power structure.
One can't have it both ways.

Although the issues may be confusing, both have had enough publicity

that one can/should be informed before voting.

I will vote against issue 3 based on the 10 parties pre-chosen (by whom?) to be authorized growers.
If issues 3 wins and is successful against legal challenges based on a win by issue 2, issue 3 will become part of the State charter, which is for all practical purposes virtually impossible to revise or eliminate.

Among the growers selected is Dudley Taft, of Ohio's famous Taft family, and Oscar Robinson, celebrated basketball player. Needless to say, all ten grower groups are composed of moneyed elites.

Issue 3 has mucho money behind it and is running ads non-stop, just as a pile of money was spent to get enough signatures to put issue 3 on the ballot. Anti-issue 3 ads are non-existent, as far as I can see.

Cherish that memory of your handsome son at 21.

It is human and entirely natural to miss and mourn your son 9 years later.

Peace.

What's happening in FL? Weren't at least a few house districts ordered

by a federal judge to be redrawn?

Assisted living - Maybe not his idea, but not so bad.

Still a lot of autonomy left in assisted living.
Many people thrive in assisted or independent living, as compared to isolation of living alone, not eating well, etc.

I hope the gentleman adjusts well and has length of days, enjoying the fruits of his labors.
