This week, Jan 18-25, marks the International Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

The concept dates from the early part of the Twentieth Century, and is observed by many Christian faiths in many countries.
We unite in prayer that Christians of diverse denominations may walk toward unity of worship.

I recall an emphasis on this project when I was in grade school in the 1940's, which was many years before efforts toward ecumenism were prevalent; therefore, it holds a special regard in my heart.

Old obits can provide clues to relatives you may not have known existed.

My grandfather's obit named his sister, of whom I'd never heard a word, let alone her name.
Opened up a whole new line which I'm still exploring.

I've had a GenealogyBank membership for over a year and

have many nuggets re my ancestry in Michigan, whom I never knew.
The older newspapers had much interesting detail.- they even recounted that one relative had found a bee-hive. I guess that meant free honey.
Illnesses, injuries, vacations, funerals, anniversaries, memberships, recitals are among the events detailed.
The articles give flesh and life to those whom we've only known by name.

You've got a chance, distant as it may seem at this time.

When I think of the changes I've seen in the church in my lifetime-

Female altar servers
Lay lectors
Mass in the vernacular
Changes in fasting and abstinence rules
Women wearing hats or veils at Mass
Fewer priests
Practically no monsignors anymore
Frequent marriage annulments
and many more-

Female priests would be bigger than any of these,
but the time may come.

I hope you are a very young person now

because I believe that day is a long way off.
I do not expect to live to see that day - I'm already a senior.

I seldom agree with you, Warren, but I - an Ohioan- agree strongly on this one.

The executed man's daughter was in attendance and uttered "Oh God" as he snorted, like in a snore, during the period the drugs took to work.

I hope the teabaggers get stomped in 2014 as well as 2016.

Our country cannot have another election cycle like 2010.
Make sure everyone here votes and works to get others to vote!
