Buc-ee's responds to unofficial 'Buk-ii's' store in Matamoros, MX

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Buc-ee’s is prepared to take action against an unofficial store named “Buk-ii’s” in Matamoros.

An off-brand version of the popular store is opening as a “super mercado” in Matamoros. A report by KDAF, our sister station in Dallas, stated the store will sell grocery items and international beers.

Buc-ee’s general counsel Jeff Nadalo released a statement to ValleyCentral in reference to the store opening.

“The Buc-ee’s brand represents clean restrooms, freshly prepared food, and great service. Buc-ee’s has invested heavily in innovation across the company to create and maintain these award-winning guest experiences. Accordingly, Buc-ee’s will not stand as an idle spectator while others use without permission the intellectual property that Buc-ee’s has cultivated for decades,” the statement reads.

People on Nextoor want to mount an armed posse to rescue a dog

Yes, a dog. They plan to bring guns and shoot first. The dog lives in an apartment and does not go outdoors alone.
People are crazy.

Had an "experience" at the MLK March

We knew the GOP was marching. Unfortunately, they put us right next to them in the line up. (Well, they put the LWV between)
The GOP had their huge American and Texas flags and we had our old age and arthritis. We weren't a match for them.

Then, from the back emerges a group called the "Party for Socialism and Liberation". They are like a loud version of antifa on steroids. We gladly let them cut in front of us. They all carried large signs on wooden stakes and shouted into the GOP's ears, "Abolish the border!", "Free Palestine!", "Capitalism kills people!", "Abortion for all!", "Hey, hey, ho-ho, the military has got to go!". Abolish rent!", "Abolish the Supreme Court"

I was laughing my A__ off.
These pictures are not from our event, but you get the idea. They brought a wagon full of signs and changed them out when they changed their theme.

The GOP was there for the express purpose of recruiting African-Americans to the Republican Party. So, this wild group which was in their face had me LMAO. I hope the GOP was intimidated and they don't come back to the MLK March.

Taken Hostage - PBS - American Experience - Excellent 3.5 hour doc about Iran

This is excellent. It is not what I thought it would be.

https://www.pbs.org/video/part-1-taken-hostage-american-experience-a56dcc/

https://www.pbs.org/video/part-2-taken-hostage-american-experience-b0xbv2/

It's the most indepth I have seen about US and Iran. Lots of back details. 3 hours long.

I'm at the part in the 1st episode when the Shah is visiting the US in 1977. There were protests by Iranian students, then the Shah's loyalists brought in thugs and mayhem broke out out. Tear gas was then fired, the Shah and Roslynn Carter had tear gas exposure, then President Carter had visible effects from it.

This is so involved. Barry Rosen is the focus of part 1. I'm enthralled with this.

I thought it was gonna be about the hostage crisis, but over an hour in, they haven't gotten there yet.

The Shah was very arrogant...ugh...(I have experience with ME men and he's cut from the same cloth, if you know what I mean)

Texas lawmakers target property taxes, election fraud and transgender people in new legislation

Texas lawmakers won’t gavel in for the new legislative session until January, but they got their first chance to file bills Monday.

By 1 p.m., Texas legislators filed more than 800 bills pertaining to an array of matters. Thousands of pieces of legislation are filed each session, but most never make it into law. The first day of bill filing, though, can shed light on legislators’ priorities and what battles could be shaping up in Austin next year. Republicans continue to hold both chambers — and narrowly expanded their control of the Legislature.

When the 88th legislative session convenes, the state is expected to have an unprecedented amount of funds at its disposal. The state comptroller forecast that there will be at least an extra $27 billion in the two-year budget compared with the last regular legislative session. Lawmakers will also see an increase in their savings account, also known as the rainy day fund.

Filing early means bills will typically get a low number. But the lowest numbers are reserved for the highest-priority bills set by the House speaker and lieutenant governor. House Speaker Dade Phelan and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick have yet to announce what their priorities are.https://www.texastribune.org/2022/11/14/texas-bill-filing-legislation-session-2023/

Yes, this is the first day bills can be filed.

However, last session, the worst bills that passed, were filed later......

Republicans poised to narrowly increase majorities in Texas Legislature

https://www.texastribune.org/2022/11/09/texas-legislature-2022-election-results/

Republican incumbents are successfully defending their seats while the party appears to be making inroads in South Texas.

I hate them and their gerrymandering.......

Fortunately, Morgan LaMantia (D) won Eddie Lucio Jr's (SD 27) former seat. So that seat stays blue.

About LeftInTX

Always a Democrat. I can't understand conservatives. I try to understand them, but I can't. They don't make sense. Our country has gone so far right since 1981. I was just an average American who took many Democratic values for granted when Reagan was elected. It was like the rug was pulled out from under our society. Reagan ruined our country.
