A big thanks to Prairie_Seagull

for gifting me a Star Membership, as mine was about to run out. And thanks to all who do this for others. My first Star was an anonymous gift. This is one of the things that makes this place what it is.

Today is trash pick-up day here.

I live in a small town where this job is done by a private vendor, not city workers. We have two cans, a blue one for recycling and a black can for garbage. Two different trucks pick up these two cans.

The trucks have an automated extending claw that picks up the cans so only a driver is required. Sometimes a truck without that device comes, and a second man is required to manually dump the cans into the truck. I've been told by the driver this is because of equipment that is out of service.

I think it was last year that a driver told me the whole recycling thing was a charade and it all goes to the same landfill, and has been for some time. He said many of the recyclable items got sold to China, but that market is drying up. It seems they have become such a consumer economy that they have all the recyclables they need without buying ours. Today only one truck came, without the claw device and they were taking the blue cans, dumping them into the black cans and then into the truck. It will be interesting to see what happens next week.

Just an opinion, but I'm beginning to think

all this talk about using the 14th amendment to keep Trump off the ballot is a veiled attempt to make sure this election gets to the Supreme Court. And we all remember what happened the last time that was done. Plus the idea that it's being pushed by Federalist Society lawyers should be some kind of a red flag.

150 or so miles from home

and hanging out with two of the great grandkids, aged four and six. we just picked them up from school. They just started first grade and kindergarten. Going to be a fun and busy weekend. Their mom is out of town and dad works on Saturday, so we came to help out and have a little fun ourselves. Dad and I are going to damage a bottle of Irish Whiskey over the next two or three nights.

They have a great cat, a senior large tuxedo. They took her in when her owner, an elderly lady passed away. She's still getting acclimated to her new home. She only likes old people, so she's all over us. She's rubbing her face all over me right now. She never wants to go outside, strictly a spoiled house cat.

It's dog food cooking day!

Today we are cooking 4lbs. of groung Chucken breast, 3lbs of chicken hearts, two cups of rice, cooked in the liquid that came from cooking the chicken. And because my dogs hate and refuse to eat vegetables, several cans of mixed vegetable will be pureed and mixed in and they will never know they were there.

This will last about two weeks, bagged and frozen then thawed as needed. They are small dogs, two of them, a Poodle/Terrier and a Maltese/Yorkie. We've been doing this for a few years now and the dogs love it and seem to be in excellent health. The fat one has even lost a little weight.

Total cost for this batch is under $20.

I just got my second Shingles shot. **UPDATE**

No reaction whatsoever from the first one, but I have heard many say the second one was different and they had some aches and pains. My wife got her second one last week and the day after she had some mucular pain in her upper body. Next day she was fine.

I guess I can handle that if it happens, but I have never had any reaction to any vaccine at all, so maybe I will get lucky.

Update: So I'm having a little bit of muscular pain in my upper body, mostly in the arm that got the injection. I took some Ibuprofen and feel okay. If this is as bad as it gets, it's no big deal.

I wonder what journalism would look like

if all platforms broadcasting or printing journalism were required to be non-profit organizations. For the sake of this disciussion, let's assume the constitution requires it.

Let's hear your opinions.

Birria Tacos.

My stepson, who is a chef, visited last week and taught us how to make these. Pretty labor intensive, lots of ingredients, but results that are very versatile. My wife made some yesterday, and it's definitely one of those things that's better when heated up the second day. We had flour tortillas, so I made burritos out of it and my wife made street tacos with small corn tortillas. For breakfast I put it in my omelet. That's what I mean by versatile.

Living in California, I've enjoyed great Mexican food for 60 years, but it's good to have something new that tastes a little different.
