‘The jig is up’: Conservative warns Trump officials that courts give them no choice but to testify

On Tuesday, Never Trump conservative columnist Jennifer Rubin blasted senior Trump officials in the Washington Post, warning them that “the jig is up” and they have no legitimate excuse not to testify about the president in the Senate trial.

“On Monday, a federal judge dismissed a case brought by Charles Kupperman, a former deputy national security adviser, asserting an ‘absolute immunity’ to protect him from testifying,” wrote Rubin. “That leaves a ruling by Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson rejecting in scathing terms a similar claim of ‘absolute immunity’ in a case involving former White House counsel Donald McGahn as the final word, for now, on current and former executive branch employees’ testimony.”

Now that the courts have made this decision, Rubin argued, officials like former National Security Adviser John Bolton and White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney must testify in the Senate.

“Bolton can no longer rely on the Kupperman case, and the relevant precedent is now the McGahn case,” wrote Rubin. “Coupled with the blockbuster New York Times story revealing the behind-the-scenes efforts of senior officials including Bolton to release aid to Ukraine that President Trump illegally withheld to gain leverage and force an announcement from Ukraine of an investigation of former vice president Joe Biden, removal of Bolton’s last excuse (i.e., awaiting a Kupperman ruling) now requires both houses of Congress to proceed to get to the bottom of this.”.....

Federal judge releases scathing opinion blocking North Carolina GOP from restricting voter access

Source: raw story

Published 3 mins ago on December 31, 2019

On Tuesday, a federal judge in North Carolina released a blistering opinion in NAACP v. Cooper, blocking the North Carolina GOP from enforcing its strict voter ID requirement and ordering state officials to inform voters that the requirement is not in effect for their upcoming elections.

District Judge Loretta Biggs wrote that there was profound evidence the measure was engineered with “discriminatory intent,” pointing to the GOP’s repeated efforts to gerrymander the state......................

I think it is both. Trump loves to hear himself rant but I do think he rants cause he is panicking.

PLEASE

Trump's Twitter rants are NOT a 'victory' for us.

For 3 years, there's been a constant refrain that Trump is "panicking," that Pelosi is "getting under his skin..."

At what point will people realize he just loves mouthing off as he consolidates power?

Time to wake up.

When I see tweets like this, I get concerned that people are taking the wrong message.

Trump is a self-styled tyrant who enjoys attacking women who get in his way.

He's doing it out of brute bullying, not panic.

That's why he's so dangerous.

Not at all surprised that Trump --the President of the USA would do this disgusting tweet.

Friday evening, President Donald Trump retweeted a photo showing a piece of dog feces with a fake political sign for 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) stuck through it, promising "free shit."

The picture was originally posted by Twitter user Deb Porter, who identifies herself on her Twitter profile as a "Proud Trump Supporter!" Her Twitter feed is mostly retweets of pro-Trump and conservative comments and articles. Porter did not include a comment when she posted the image to her account, nor did Trump when he retweeted it. Shortly after 11 p.m. EST, however, Porter's account was suspended by Twitter, removing the tweet from Trump's timeline.

Vox reporter Aaron Rupar claimed on Twitter that Porter was a "QAnon fan account," and pointed out that the account was created only this month, and had what Rupar called "an extremely sketchy handle," referring to the string of numbers at the end of Porter's Twitter account name.

"I don't think the origin of the tweet is as pertinent as the fact that the President of the United States tweeted out a photo of a turd," reporter Helen Kennedy said, in reply to Rupar's original tweet.............

Mitch McConnell challenged by two former Marines as impeachment puts the unpopular senator in a bind

Published 9 hours ago on December 28, 2019

.................................
“Democratic candidates Amy McGrath and Mike Broihier each said they filed paperwork Friday to run for the seat currently held by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican,” the Washington Times reported Saturday.

.............

McConnell is in a bind on the question of whether or not to hold an impartial impeachment trial for President Donald Trump. McConnell has pledged his loyalty to Trump, but several members of his caucus reportedly have “severe misgivings” about such an approach and national polls show voters want a fair trial with witnesses.

McConnell’s poll numbers in Kentucky have cratered since he attached himself to Trump, with a recent poll showing only 37% of voters planning to reelect him.

He has also fought back against his “Moscow Mitch” nickname that trended on Twitter due to the Kentucky senator’s votes that aided Russian President Vladimir Putin and his oligarchs.

Donald Trump's Trade War Tariffs Reduced Employment at U.S. Factories and Hiked Prices, Federal Reserve Study Finds

By Brendan Cole On 12/28/19 at 8:27 AM EST

Import tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump aimed at protecting American manufacturers have actually caused job losses and higher prices for consumers, according to a study published by the U.S. Federal Reserve.

In March 2018, the Trump administration introduced steel and aluminum tariffs to counter what the president described as "aggressive foreign trade practices."

The president also took aim at Chinese goods as he started a trade war with Beijing that may be soon eased with a preliminary trade deal.

However, Federal Reserve economists Aaron Flaaen and Justin Pierce concluded that any gains made by the tariffs in reducing competition for some U.S. domestic industries were cancelled out by rising input costs and retaliatory tariffs.................................

Meanwhile, figures released in September showed that since the start of the trade war with China in February 2018, American consumers and businesses had paid an extra $38 billion, according to the lobby group Tariffs Hurt the Heartland...................

Kellyanne Conway Violated the Hatch Act 60 Times, Ethics Watchdog Claims in New Lawsuit

Source: newsweek

By Alexandra Hutzler On 12/27/19 at 1:15 PM EST

White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway should be removed from her position in the Trump administration because of her repeated violation of the Hatch Act, according to a government ethics watchdog organization.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) filed a lawsuit last week demanding the Office of Special Counsel (OSC), an agency tasked with enforcing the Hatch Act, take more disciplinary action against Conway over the violations.

"Since assuming her role in the Trump administration, Kellyanne Conway has continued to unabashedly abuse the power of her position as a high-ranking government official, and to illegally use her official position for partisan politics," CREW Executive Director Noah Bookbinder said in a statement shortly after the lawsuit was filed.

The legal action comes months after the Office of Special Counsel confirmed in a report to President Donald Trump that Conway violated the measure on multiple occasions by promoting his re-election campaign and attacking Democrats. The office recommended Conway be fired over the offenses and stated that her actions "erode the principal foundation of our democratic system — the rule of law.".......................

Trump's New Legal Adviser Is an Anti-LGBT, Fox News-Ready Bomb Thrower

Source: dailybeast

She’s quickly earned accolades from Trump’s core group of political advocates, despite her past jeremiads against “the homosexual lifestyle” and the “LGBT agenda.”

Updated Dec. 27, 2019 6:21AM ET

If you don’t know who Jenna Ellis is, you are hardly alone. Many officials at the upper echelons of Trumpworld don’t really know her, either.

In more than a dozen conversations with senior figures in the White House, 2020 campaign, and broader Trump orbit, barely anybody had known Ellis as more than a blip on the Fox News radar—if that—before this October. “She literally came out of nowhere,” said one person close to President Donald Trump.

And yet, Ellis, a constitutional law attorney who’d worked since last year as the public policy director at the James Dobson Family Institute, has quickly gone from relative obscurity to talking directly with the president about politics and impeachment. In recent weeks, he’s reached out to her to ask about fighting back against his Democratic enemies, and has casually analyzed and praised her TV hits when she’s not around, say two people with knowledge of the president’s conversations.

“She gets it,” Trump has privately gushed in the past month, according to one of these sources...............................

Howler monkeys can be well-endowed in the voice box or the family jewels, but not both.

Howler monkeys are the loudest land animals on Earth, capable of bellowing at volumes of 140 decibels, which is on the level of gunshots or firecrackers. Not surprisingly, male howlers frequently use this power to advertise their sexual fitness, catcalling females with their ear-splitting roars........................
