The actual charge is that the man made interstate threats to kill a particular person (a Spanish woman who worked at a restaurant he visited). He also plotted with a friend to kidnap the woman, who he reassured by saying "I doubt the FBI would care much about her.".......

What's with these right-wingers appearing on TV drunk?

lordy--Falwell is still talking about Hillary and emails!

What's with these right-wingers appearing on TV drunk?

Just because braying boozehound Jeanine Pirro does it every week doesn't mean they can.

Here is Jerry Falwell, Jr. after a pitcher of Manhattans with the pool boy:

Kudlow predicted the deficit would decline in 2018. It increased 17%.

He said we'd get 3-4 percent GDP growth off the tax cuts. It's been 2.5 percent.

He predicted we could hit 5% GDP growth for a short period. The highest it's hit has been 3.5%.

US Steel plans to temporarily lay off up to 200 workers in Michigan

Key Points

U.S. Steel will temporarily lay off up to 200 workers at its Great Lakes facility in Michigan in coming weeks, according to a filing the steelmaker made with the State of Michigan.
In mid-June, the company said it would idle two blast furnaces at its Great lakes and Gary Works plants, citing lower steel prices and softening demand.
An official at the United Steelworkers union, which represents U.S. Steel workers, said lay-offs were also planned for the Gary Works facility in Indiana.

Remember, Trump has repeatedly claimed that US Steel is opening six (or sometimes seven) new plants as a result of his policies.

Farm-state Republican blasts Trump administration: 'They screwed us'

Source: dailykos

Monday August 19, 2019 · 12:42 PM CDT

Chuck Grassley's not happy with his president.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, Iowa's Republican senior senator, blasted the Trump administration Friday for EPA biofuel rules that have hurt Iowa farmers. "They screwed us ... when they issued 31 waivers,” Grassley told Iowa Public Television Friday. The waivers he's talking about are waivers to 31 small petroleum refineries who have been exempted from a rule requiring them to use corn-based ethanol in their products. Grassley pointed out that fewer than 10 waivers were granted during "all the Obama years—and we thought that was bad." Grassley continued, "What's really bad isn't a waiver, it's that it's being granted to people that really aren't [in financial] hardship," while farmers are really hurting, facing a record number of bankruptcies. The "buck stops at the Oval Office," he said, putting this one on Trump rather than EPA bureaucrats.

He was referring to a Reuters report that Trump told EPA head Andrew Wheeler (the former coal lobbyist) personally to grant the waivers. "The president has heard from all sides and in the end, he has had enough of it. He called Wheeler and gave him the green light," a source told Reuters. Trump's EPA has more than quadrupled those waivers, according to Reuters. Some of the refineries that have been granted those waivers are run by oil giants Exxon Mobil and Chevron, corporations that have also done very well by Trump's tax law. Which Grassley was happy to vote for.
..................................................

Grassley is in a safe place to criticize Trump. But his junior senator, Joni Ernst, is not. She's running for reelection this year, and is already on the wrong side of many voters for refusing to act on gun violence.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump last week ended a nearly two-month-long review of the nation’s biofuels program, three sources familiar with the matter said, with the White House siding in favor of oil refiners over corn growers. ...................................................

Trump’s call triggered a flurry of action within the EPA, leading up to a surprise Friday afternoon announcement, after weeks of negotiations between U.S. government agencies failed to make progress in addressing farmers’ concerns. .................................................................

The White House has sought to make changes to the nation’s biofuels laws since the beginning of Trump’s administration in early 2017, but found themselves caught between the powerful oil and corn lobbies, both of whom have allies in Washington in Trump’s Republican Party.

Ole Elkhart, Indiana. The town had 20% unemployment when Obama took office. He visited there… a lot. And with some help (the stimulus) got the rate down below 4%. Now, with tariffs taking a hit, RV sales (Elkhart’s lifeline) are on a steep decline.

The president said there was “something going on” at the conservative news network.

President Donald Trump pushed back Sunday against a Fox News poll showing he’d lose to any of the top Democratic candidates in the 2020 election.

“There’s something going on at Fox, I”ll tell you right now, and I’m not happy with it,” the president told reporters at Morristown Airport in New Jersey, as he traveled back to the White House from his golf resort.

The poll, released Friday, indicated Trump would fall in a general election against former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), or Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.). Trump’s margin of defeat ranged from 12 points against Biden to 6 points against Harris.

“I don’t believe it,” Trump said of the poll, according to a transcript released Sunday.

The U.S. leader, who has often treated Fox News as his go-to outlet, complained that his worst poll numbers have come from Fox. He singled out the channel’s political analyst Juan Williams for negative coverage, and predictably offered support for prime time hosts Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson.................................

I had an argument a few weeks ago over Nazis. Not the ones that marched for Trump in Portland: I’m talking the original version from the 1930s. The argument—which I couldn’t believe I was having, but I guess is a thing now in certain circles—was whether all Nazis back then were evil.

I paid attention in history class so this was a pretty quick argument. As I told the guy, they weren’t all paramilitary like the ones that come to mind when we think of the word “Nazi”, which was usually the SA (brown shirts) or SS (black shirts). There were other members of the National Socialist German Workers Party, such as the bureaucrats and public officials.

Not all were fanatics. Not all virulently hated the Jewish people. Several even admitted Hitler was insane. However, they continued to support him and the regime for a variety of reasons: they hated communism more; they felt resentment over the abuse of the Versailles treaty; they were swept up in the nationalistic fervor, or they had fear of losing their status if they, in any way, resisted.

Sure, there were plenty of so-called “nice” ones who privately hated aspects of the regime and never personally hurt anyone. Yet my point to him was this: every single one of them was complicit. And no, there is no such thing as a “good Nazi”.....................................

Trump 'Damaging' Our Democracy With Baseless Voter Fraud Claims, Federal Election Commission Chair

Source: Newsweek

By Jason Lemon On 8/19/19 at 10:01 AM EDT

Federal Elections Commission Chair Ellen Weintraub called out President Donald Trump on Monday for making repeated and unfounded claims about rampant nationwide voter fraud.

"Facts matter," Weintraub said in a Monday morning interview with CNN's New Day, after anchor John Berman read a letter she had written to Trump, asking him to refrain from repeating baseless claims about voter fraud. "People need to be able to believe what their leaders tell them."

"There is no evidence of rampant voter fraud in 2016, or really in any previous election. People have studied this. Academics have studied this. Lawyers have studied this. The government has studied this. Democrats have studied this. Republicans have studied this, and no one can find any evidence of rampant voter fraud either historically or particularly in the 2016 election," Weintraub explained.

Continuing, she argued that Trump's efforts to "put out information that has no proof, has no evidence behind it, it is ... damaging to our Democracy." Weintraub said that the false claims would cause "people to lose faith" and to "question the results" of elections.

...............................
Trump has repeatedly touted conspiracy theories and claimed that he only lost the popular vote to his 2016 presidential opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, due to "rampant voter fraud." Although Trump lost the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes, he won more states than Clinton and a significant majority of the electoral college......................................
