The Byrds - Hickory Wind
Went through the town of Joshua Tree yesterday on my way back to Oregon. This is where country/rock singer Gram Parsons died of an overdose at the Joshua Tree Inn at the age of 26 in 1973. He is considered to be one of the pioneers of country/rock.
Even through he came from a very wealthy family he experienced a lot of trauma in his youth-his father committed suicide when he was 12 and his mother died of cirrhosis of the liver the day he graduated from high school. For those interested in learning more about his life I'm including a link.

Hickory Wind has been covered by numerous artists including his friend Keith Richards. This was when he was with the Byrds.

Drove through Bakersfield this afternoon on the way to Indio and this song popped into my head.

Legendary Media Reporter Bill Carter Destroys 'Horserace' Coverage of Trump Campaign Rollout'.....
One of the most storied media reporters of all-time has denounced the fourth estates coverage of former President Donald Trumps de facto campaign rollout.
In a Sunday morning tweet, CNN analyst Bill Carter slammed the press for focusing on the politics of Trumps speeches on Saturday in New Hampshire and South Carolina, and more or less treating him as a conventional candidate.
To have ZERO accountability for the most lawless Admin in US history, one that plotted a COUP for pitys sake, is both a massive fail and an incipient disaster, Carter wrote.
Carter was responding to a tweet from never-Trump conservative Bill Kristol who fumed at the tenor of Saturdays reporting from the campaign trail.
Coverage Ive seen of Trump campaign trip is all 2024 horserace, Kristol wrote. Jan. 6 not mentioned. Understandable but suggests the price weve paid for no indictments, no trial, no real reckoning for Jan. 6. Trump treated as normal candidate, not a president who tried to subvert an election.
