This Library Cat Was Fired, And It's Tearing His Town Apart

Source: Huffington Post, 29/06/2016

The city is evicting Browser the cat -- against the wishes of library staff.

Getting fired is always hard — but it’s even worse if it means getting evicted, too.

That’s what’s happening to Browser, a sweet gray cat who has inhabited the public library in White Settlement, Texas, (yeah, that’s really the name) for more than five years. Despite Browser being beloved by library workers and patrons, the White Settlement City Council voted last week that Browser had to go.

“I don’t think there’ll be any problem finding a home for Browser,” said Lillian Blackburn, president of Friends of the White Settlement Public Library, noting that multiple people have already offered to take him. “But he will not have a home like this.”

The library originally adopted Browser from the animal shelter to help it deal with a mouse problem, Blackburn told The Huffington Post. But the animal soon became a quirky fixture of the place, with an uncanny ability to detect if someone is a cat person.

“He’s there if you want him to be there,” Blackburn said. “And if you don’t want him to touch you or go near you, he doesn’t.” He’s also a big draw for kids, she added.

But an item appeared on the June 14 city council agenda addressing the “relocation of the Library Facility cat.”

“City Hall and City businesses are no place for animals,” said council member Elzie Clements, according to the Grizzly Detail. Mayor Ron White spoke in favor of keeping the cat, as did eight audience members. And a petition for Browser remaining had more than 600 signatures. (Since the story has been in the media, a second online petition for keeping Browser has emerged.) But the council nevertheless voted 2-1 to boot Browser, giving him 30 days to find a new place to live.

That makes his eviction date July 14. However, White wants the council to reconsider the decision at a meeting scheduled for July 12.

Browser the library cat keeps in touch with his fans via his Facebook page.

Browser has lived in the library for more than five years.

Petition: Please help Browser the library cat!
Browser, has been a cat at White Settlement Public Library for over 6 years and hasn't done anything to deserve this unfair treatment. This cat, in this small town has garnered much media attention already. There are similar animals in other public areas throughout the country, including in libraries!

The world's most mischievous moggy! How Kitty the cat went from being rejected by FIVE foster homes

to Insta-famous feline

Source: Daily Mail

Cats are often seen as graceful creatures known for their ability to land on all-fours.

But one cat, who goes by the name Kitty, is an exception to that rule.

The frolicsome feline is trouble in every sense of the word, and in any one day can get tangled in paper, stuck in a box or wedged between the bed head and the wall.

Kitty's behaviour was so mischievous it was deemed too much for her owners.

The poor moggy was shunted between five foster carers before one brave owner took pity and adopted her for good.

And unlike the rest Kitty's new owner, who lives in New York, saw something in her that no one else did, and the pair went on to find Instagram fame.

Family Captures Moments They Were Chosen by a Stray Cat by the Door

Source: Lovemeow

A stray cat showed up at the door of a house and just walked right in.

"We had never had a cat before and it has been a learning experience to say the least," reddit user fishtank88 said.

The kitty was friendly and just loved it when they gave her attention and love. She needed a warmer place to stay and found their home.

No one came to claim the cat, so they started caring for her, and even helped trim off the matted fur, so she could feel more comfortable.

"She kept getting wider and sleeping more, we knew she was pregnant."

They began to research and prepare for the birth of the kittens.

Feels warmer in here.

She's family now!

Mama gave birth to three healthy babies.

Welcome to the world little one!

Cat saves owner's life by detecting she had breast cancer TWICE

Source: Daily Mirror

Angela Tinning knew something was wrong when her normally aloof moggy Missy started showing her affection

Angela Tinning knew there was something wrong when her normally aloof moggy Missy suddenly started bombarding her with attention and pawing at her breasts.

She said: “If it wasn’t for her I’d never have caught it so early and I might not be here today.”

Angela had ignored Missy until she knocked her breast, causing her pain – and she went to her GP.

The doctor found pre-cancerous cells that would not have showed up on a mammogram.

Finance officer Angela, 43, of Newcastle, was given the all clear in 2013, but three years later, Missy started playing up again. Angela went straight back to the doctor and found the cells had returned.

She is now being treated and says Missy has saved her.

---

Now Missy is up for a Cats Protection Hero Cat Award.

Missy from Newcastle

Angela Tinning knew something must be wrong when her loyal puss Missy began acting strangely earlier this year.

Back in February 2013 Missy had behaved in the same erratic manner, pawing at her chest and becoming agitated. That time, the behaviour had been so unusual it had prompted Angela to seek medical attention for what turned out to be pre-cancerous cells. So when Missy began behaving the same way three years later, Angela wasted no time in getting herself checked – and again, more pre-cancerous cells were found.

Angela said: “I felt fine and I honestly don’t think I would have got it checked out if she hadn’t drawn my attention to it. If it weren’t for her, my story could be very different today. She is my little hero.”

Lumberyard Cat Offers Cuddles for 12 Years Since He Showed Up as a Stray

Source: Lovemeow

A stray cat showed up at a lumberyard one day and made it his forever home. He's been offering love and cuddles to whoever comes into the door for 12 years.

Meet Hoover the cat!

Hoover was found at Burke and Sons Lumber Company in Rock Port, MO. over a decade ago and decided to befriend the people there.

"He was living off crickets and grasshoppers. At first we put the word out that we had a young cat that needed a home, but my mom (this is a family run lumber yard) decided after spending time with him that he was going to stay here," Jesse Kendall told Love Meow.

"He is one of the most laid-back cats I've ever seen. He lets children pet him. He likes to be held like a baby. He can usually be found sleeping in a lumber bin, on a desk, or right on the sales counter looking for love from customers," Jesse said.

Hoover greets people with a big smile at the lumberyard.

Hoover oversees the entire operation at the lumberyard.

What a rough night at the lumberyard.

Hoover found a good spot for a nap.

Everybody loves him!

Whenever a customer comes by, he rolls on his back and demands belly rubs and cuddles. It's impossible to say no.

Puff the chubby cat has been signed up to fat camp to shift some weight

Source: Metro UK

Poor Puff the cat has a bit of an overeating problem.

She can’t stop eating prawns. She’s addicted to treats. She keeps getting caught trying to swipe fish from the tank and stealing food from the dog.

Her diet has become so bad her owner, Marie Clair, has decided to enroll Puff in the PDSA’s Pet Fit Club programme – fat camp for cats, basically.

Marie says that when she first adopted Puff, she was pretty shocked by just how chubby the cat was.

‘The pictures we’d been sent were before her weight gain,’ she said.

‘She is a long-haired cat, and they can be slightly larger in frame than regular cats – but when I saw her I was flabbergasted.

‘I wasn’t sure we’d even get her in the cat carrier! In the end she was too big, and we had to use a dog cage to bring her home.

‘She really is a big cream Puff.’

The cat guardians of Singapore

Source: BBC

Every city has its strays, but here in Singapore, they are little different. Not scrawny and vaguely whiffy, but glossy and groomed and known affectionately as "community cats".

By day, they are fed and watered by a small army of dedicated volunteer feeders - office workers heading home, hipsters heading out, ageing "aunties and uncles".

But at night, a hardcore of cat-lovers take to the streets.

---

Their anxiety for the cats is very real, and fuelled by a spate of mysterious deaths of community cats in Yishun earlier this year.

For weeks, Singaporean media was full of stories documenting the latest gruesome discovery.

Animals were found with broken limbs, drowned in ponds, with severe internal injuries and in one case, with an eye gouged out. In some cases, there was no doubting a deliberate act of violence.

In total, 39 cats were reported dead within a few months.

There are an estimated 600 "community cats" roaming the housing estates of Yishun

Dedicated carefully maintained feeding spots can be found all over Singapore

Their ease around humans makes the cats an easy target for potential assailants

It's almost impossible not to spot a community cat while out at night in Singapore

Bushy's colour and shiny coat indicate she may at one time have been a family pet

Healthy and relaxed, Cowli's trust of people is a concern for the volunteers

The volunteers hope Little Mulan's slight reservation around humans will help protect her from a potential attacker

Kitten Saved by Mechanics, One of Them Couldn't Say No

Source: Lovemeow

A woman heard meowing from her car and couldn't find anything, but the cry kept coming back, so she brought her car to West Broad Hyundai, hoping the mechanics there could help her find the little mystery kitty.

Meet Sonata!

"While the vehicle is sitting in the service lane we hear the meow so I check behind glove box near the cabin filter area, and don't see anything, shine a flash light through the wiper cowl and don't see anything either," JoVan Chambers said on Facebook.

"We hear the meow again but sounds like it's in the fender or bumper area... So another tech takes the car and pulls it into shop and we put it on the lift."

They looked around the car and finally located the cat's whereabouts.

"He's in the passenger side Fender Liner up behind the wheel ducked down. Bubba takes (the) car apart more to get to him and Bob pulls him out."

John Newman, one of the mechanics, offered the little kitten some food right after they safely pulled him out of the car.

Now the kitty needed a home.

"They asked the owner of the car first but she couldn't because she has four cats already," Tiffany Vermillion-Newman, John's wife, told Love Meow.

"Then everyone was asking each other and it was my husband's turn and he said 'Yes of course!' and called me and came home within 15 minutes. We both went to Petsmart to buy kitty stuff."

When John held the kitty in his hands, he fell in love, and just couldn't say no.

Sammy the cat attends university every day to give students soothing snuggles

Source: Metro UK

Forget nap pods and yoga sessions – this is the only form of de-stressing we want in our universities.

For years, the University of Augsburg in Bavaria, southern Germany, has played host to a very special visitor: a little ginger cat whose only mission is to give students soothing snuggles.

To be clear, the cat hasn’t been hired by the university’s staff. She just started popping on to campus when she was one year old, realised she liked hanging around with students, and has been paying the university a visit every day since then.

Her owner lives just nearby and has no issue with the cat spending her days helping out the students, who call the cat Sammy or The Campus Cat.

Sammy now knows many of the students, and will always run to them to sit on their lap and cuddle up.

During each daily trip to the campus, Sammy enjoys lounging outside in the sun. But her favourite spot in the library, where she can check in on stressed out students revising for exams and offer support.

Paralyzed Cat Mom Drags Herself to Her Kittens so She Can Continue Caring for Them

Source: Lovemeow

Before Princess the cat became paralyzed, she gave birth to a litter of five kittens in a yard where she had been getting food from. The kittens are her everything.

But her world turned upside down, when she entered another yard where she was faced with brutality, and it left her paralyzed.

Her determination to care for her babies kept her alive, and she dragged herself back to the place where she left her babies.

When Dee Walton, owner of Sawyer Gully Animal Rescue at Weston, NSW, Australia, found out about Princess and her ordeal, she rushed to save the cat mama.

A kind lady, who had been feeding the cat, called the RSPCA, and they took the mama cat and her babies in.

It turns out that the cat mother has a microchip and they were able to track down the owner who later relinquished the cats to the shelter.

---

The person responsible for Princess' injuries has been arrested. The rescue group is working on a plan to get momma cat her very own wheelchair, so she can move freely again.
