Dog Missed Having a Cat, So They Found Him a New Friend

Source: Lovemeow

Forsberg, a 10-year-old Golden Retriever, grew up snuggling with his best friend, a ginger cat. The two shared an inseparable bond.

The cat-loving dog always napped with his feline buddy and the ginger cat loved him the same.

Two years ago, the 15-year-old ginger passed away, and Forsberg was very confused and always looking for his cuddle buddy.

"Forsberg really missed having a cat," Jen Philion, Forsberg's owner, said via reddit.

So Jen decided to bring home a new kitty buddy for Forsberg to cuddle with.

"Problem solved!" It was love at first sight.

Russian sailor cats melt hearts of passengers cruising between Moscow and St. Petersburg (PHOTOS)

Source: rt.com, 23 May 2016

A cat aboard a Russian tourist ship has become an internet sensation, after news spread of the fluffy sailor having cruised for years between Russia’s two main cities. It turns out that the now-famous Persian is not the only four-legged crew member.

A cat aboard a Russian tourist ship has become an internet sensation, after news spread of the fluffy sailor having cruised for years between Russia’s two main cities. It turns out that the now-famous Persian is not the only four-legged crew member.

The cat, named ‘Sailor’, has been “working” together with the Nikolay Chernyshevsky cruiser ship’s captain, Vladimir Kotin, since 2008.

He has become not only a real crew member, keeping watch on the captain’s bridge every night from midnight until 4:00am, but is also an attraction for tourists.

It’s not known how much of every 30,000 rubles ($450) – the average ticket price for the cruise – has been earned thanks to the attractive cat, but he definitely worked hard enough to earn himself a uniform ... and a subordinate.

When visiting the ship, RT’s Ruptly met another cat on board. The captain said he got the second male cat to keep Sailor company. The two get along, although the younger one tends to be a bit more lazy.

Purr-fect reunion: California veteran is reunited with Mr. Meowgi, the cat he saved in Iraq

Source: Daily Mail

A veteran and the cat he looked after in Iraq had the purr-fect reunion at Los Angeles International Airport.

Navy reservist Brad VanCleave crossed paths with the feline, known as Mr. Meowgi, at the Baghdad International Airport, where VanCleave was a government contractor, CBS Los Angeles reported.

VanCleave told the TV station: 'In July of 2015 I saw a baby kitten and he stuck his head out from one of the shipping containers. And we started feeding it and his mom.'

He said of the furry companion: 'It's kind of a neat little feeling to know that you're arriving at your work site and you're greeting by this meowing little baby, and he's chasing after you.'

VanCleave was set to leave Iraq, explaining: 'I knew if I left him there and didn't bring him back the chances of him being alive when I got back were pretty slim.'

VanCleave wrote on Facebook: 'Mr. Meowgi was born on our worksite in Baghdad, Iraq in June 2015, under a shipping container'

VanCleave said he and others who fed the cats constructed 'a shelter made from used aircraft tires and old pallets' for Mr. Meowgi and his mother

Stray Cat Gives Birth To Extremely Rare 'Werewolf' Kitten

Source: The Dodo

World, meet Eyona — not only one of the most unique-looking kittens on the planet, but also quite possibly the rarest.

Eyona was discovered last March by volunteers from TEARS Animal Rescue, in South Africa. While coming to the aid of a stray tabby cat and her litter of six kittens born in a bush inside a Cape Town park, they discovered one of the babies was not at all like the others.

Although his mother and five siblings were all normal kitties, Eyona looked almost like a different animal entirely. His dark hair is patchy and flecked with grey, and his face is narrow with an intense sort of gaze.

"He's got the look of a wolf, but the physique of a cat," TEARS operations manager Mandy Store told The Dodo. "We thought he might be a sphinx crossbreed, but he's got a lot of little physical differences from cats. He's quite incredible. "

It wasn't until recently, however, that Eyona's rescuers learned just how incredible he really is.

Turns out, Eyona was born with an extremely rare mutation which makes him a different sort of cat altogether — a new breed called Lykoi, or "Werewolf" cats.

With spokescat in tow, vet group pushes to ban cat declawing in New York

Source: MPR News

New York would be the first state to ban the declawing of cats under a legislative proposal that has divided veterinarians.

Several vets — along with a spokescat named Rubio — came to the state Capitol on Tuesday to lobby for the ban. They say the declawing procedure, which involves cutting through bone, tendon and nerves to amputate the first segment of a cat's toes, is unnecessary and cruel. Australia, Britain and several European countries already ban the practice. It's also illegal in Los Angeles and some other California cities.

"It's a disfiguring, inhumane and misguided procedure," said Eileen Jefferson, an Ulster County veterinarian who does not perform the procedure. She said about 25 percent of cats will be declawed.

While Jefferson and the other vets discussed the bill at a press conference in the Capitol, Rubio roamed the room, sniffing the reporters and occasionally offering a meow as greeting. The 11-year-old Abyssinian has his claws but chose not to use them on the journalists.

Man Saves Tiny Kitten, who Chooses Him and Changes His Life

Source: LoveMeow

This man never thought he would be a cat person until a tiny fur baby chose him and changed his life forever.

Marc Nelson found a tiny motherless kitten in Aklan, Philippines.

"I dropped by my neighbor's place and his daughter started telling me how she saw a couple of dogs attack some kittens further down the beach," Marc told Love Meow.

She pulled the dogs away as soon as she could but by then only one kitten survived and ran away.

"I asked her to show me where the kitten was and she took me to the general area, which was amongst the wild coconut trees by the beach. It took me a while to find the kitten as it was getting dark already, but then I heard her meow."

"She was so tiny. A scrawny grey striped thing that could fit in my hand," Marc said.

After many hours of hoping the cat mother would return, there was no sign of her.

"I gathered her up in a towel and brought her to my other neighbor who had recently raised a kitten. She gave me an old box and some infant formula, telling me that she doubled the concentration mix for her kitten. Then it was back to my place and my first night as a cat daddy," Marc told Love Meow.

Guinness World Records announces 30-year-old Scooter as oldest living cat

Source: Guiness World Records

Guinness World Records has just confirmed that Scooter, a 30-year-old Siamese from Mansfield, Texas, is the new Oldest living cat.

Born March 26, 1986, Scooter lives with his owner Gail Floyd, who was there the day the kitten was born – and he’s been right by her side ever since.

As a kitten, Scooter liked to play in Gail’s hair and even became accustomed to riding on her shoulder, going with her wherever she went. Nowadays, nothing has changed. He wakes Gail up every morning at 6 AM, “talking” and jumping around, and is always waiting by the door when she arrives home from work.

NYPD officer adopts kitten she helped rescue from abandoned suitcase in Williamsburg

Source: PIX 11, MAY 3, 2016

WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn — The same NYPD officer who helped rescue seven kittens abandoned in a suitcase has adopted one herself.

On March 19, NYPD officers found the grey kittens discarded in a suitcase in a parking lot near the Williamsburg Bridge.

This weekend, three of the kittens were adopted after weeks of recovering at the ASPCA.

NYPD officer Nicole Piridis from the 90th Precinct got to take home Dmitry, a 3-month-old kitten from the group. Piridis does not have any other pets and has renamed him “Apollo.”

KITTENS COVERED IN TOXIC INK MAY HAVE BEEN USED FOR ‘BARBARIC’ BETTING GAME

Source: Inquisitr

Two helpless kittens were discovered by police in West Yorkshire, UK covered in toxic permanent marker. A rescue worker believes the animals may have used as bait in a cruel game where people release dogs on the kittens and bet on their lives.

According to the Huffington Post, the kittens, roughly 4- to 5-weeks-old, were discovered with green and blue ink on the white part of their fur. Officers were actually looking into another animal cruelty case when they found the kittens. Both of them are reportedly traumatized and lethargic.

Since their rescue, both kittens have been treated at Bradford Cat Watch Rescue Centre. Along with respiratory issues possibly caused by the permanent marker, the kittens are also suffering from mouth ulcers and having difficulties eating. Not only could the permanent marker absorb through the skin of the kittens and cause organ damage, cats also lick themselves clean, meaning the kittens could have ingested the toxic ink. However, they are reportedly “on the mend” after a thorough bath and lots of love and care.

“Here at BCWR Kittens, we often consider ourselves to be unshockable, we have dealt with most situations but this is a first,” said Katie Jane Lloyd, a BCWR spokesperson. “This is a dreadful act of cruelty and who knows what untelling damage this may have caused. We have sought veterinary advice and I have just contacted the poisons unit to ascertain what would be safe to use on them to try to remove the ink.”

---

According to Refinery 29, police are not exactly sure what sort of cruelty these kittens were involved in, but authorities don’t believe it was simply the work of misbehaving children. The story bears a disturbing resemblance to another kitten named Smurf who was rescued with blue ink all over his body. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, this kitten was found with severe puncture wounds, leading investigators to believe the animal had been attacked by a dog.

This supports Lloyd’s horrifying theory that both kittens were used in a violent blood sport involving betting on dogs to kill baby animals. The game is called “dog-baiting.” The kittens were likely thrown into an arena of vicious dogs and colored so that participants could keep track of which kitten was killed first.
