Grumpy Cat as unexcited as ever about Madame Tussauds figure

Source: PennLive

Forever-frowning Grumpy Cat is as grumpy as ever, even after learning she would become the first feline figure at famed wax museum Madame Tussauds.

The famous feline, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, recently had to sit through measurements and styling for the Tussauds crew to get everything just right.

The finished figure will be animatronic with five different movements. It will be unveiled later this year in San Francisco before touring the other five Madame Tussauds in the United States.

The Internet celebrity began the rise to grumpy glory in 2012 when her photo was posted to Reddit. Soon after, videos posted to YouTube went viral and the memes followed.

'Used cat salesman' unloads 34 felines at Calgary Humane Society event

Source: CBC News

Spoof ad on YouTube pushes to find new homes for 'pre-owned' animals

The Calgary Humane Society resorted to the high-pressure sales tactics of a man in a tacky suit for its annual August push to find homes for the cats in its shelter.

And the "used cat salesman" managed to broker deals for 34 adoptions of cats and other animals in the crowded shelter, the society said.

The YouTube video was created in the run-up to the weekend event.

"Black cats, white cats, tall cats, short cats. We've got cats of all makes, models and colours. They're ready to practically walk off the lot," said the star of the promotional video.

The humane society also posted a hilarious video about the origin of the cat salesman moustache.

A kitten was stuck in a pipe. Chesapeake Animal Services found a clever way to rescue her

Source: The Virginian-Pilot

Finding a hairball in a pipe isn’t unusual. But when it’s got four legs and whiskers, unclogging that pipe takes some ingenuity.

On Wednesday afternoon, Verizon workers discovered a trapped kitten in the 800 block of Greenbrier Circle, near the Chesapeake Conference Center, said Animal Control Superintendent Kathy Strouse.

The kitten had been stuck for hours in a PVC pipe underground below concrete, Strouse said. A large generator sat on top.

Animal Control Officer Sandy Hudson struggled to reach the feline, which kept retreating from her arsenal of tools, including a long, metal snare pole and 3½-foot-long tongs.

The Labour Party Let This Cat Vote In Its Leadership Election

Source: Buzzfeed

How tough are Labour’s internal checks for new members? BuzzFeed News registered a cat to find out.

Amid growing concerns about outsiders infilitrating the Labour leadership race, BuzzFeed News managed to get a vote for this cat.

BuzzFeed News registered Ned, a three-year-old tabby belonging to one of our journalists, as a Labour party supporter earlier this month and he has since been sent a ballot paper, enabling us to vote in the contest for the party’s next leader in the name of a cat.

This is despite Labour’s pledge to ensure that the hundreds of thousands of applications it received over the summer from new supporters were actually from real people who appear on the electoral roll.

Ned does not appear on the electoral roll because Ned is a cat.

Loki The Cat Looks Like A Vampire Thanks To Her Oversized Teeth,

And She's Definitely The Cutest Instagram Cat Ever

Source: Bustle

In today's tidbit of cat-related news for all the feline enthusiasts out there we have this: Loki the cat looks like a vampire because of her super sharp teeth. And you know what? It's actually adorable. In fact, if that's not adorable enough for your daily fix of adorable things, I would suggest reconsidering your priorities, because clearly Loki and her Instagram account are more important than anything else you could possibly be doing right now. Oh, and there's also this: Not only do Loki's tooth protrude similarly to those of vampires, but even better, she also seems to stick her tongue out a tiny bit, adding to the whole furry I'm-going-to-bite-you-and-then-drink-your-blood-and-then-lick-my-paws-clean aesthetic. If you thought it was cute when Stefan and Damon from Vampire Diaries bared their fangs, you'll definitely love it when Loki does it.

Evolutionarily speaking, it makes sense that cats would have long, sharp teeth for hunting purposes. A common theory suggests that house cats all descended from the Middle Eastern wildcat, a carnivorous creature that needed sharp teeth to sink into its prey, which consisted of voles, mice, rats, ducks, pigeons, and waterfowl. Of course, as cats were domesticated and kept as pets, they didn't need to hunt anymore; as their diets changed, their teeth changed as well.

So it's not all that wild that Loki has such sharp, long fangs — but it is unusual to see her specific appearance in house cats these days. Check out some of these photos to see the adorable creature at her finest, and check out @loki_kitteh on Instagram for more.

Corduroy Regains World's Oldest Cat Title

Source: Huffington Post

Corduroy's age is equivalent to 124 human years.

Guinness World Records just revealed the name of the world's oldest living cat, but its old news for this puss.

Corduroy, a domestic long hair living in Sisters, Oregon, turned 26 on Aug. 1, and won the coveted honor after the previous title holder, Tiffany Two, died in May. Corduroy was probably a little catty about the award, because it was his second time winning it.

Tiffany Two -- who was 27 years, two months and nine days old when she died --snatched the record away from Corduroy last October when she was nominated and discovered by Guinness World Records.

Meow-za: The Internet Cat Video Festival turns four

Source: MPR News

Calling all cat lovers: The Walker Art Center's fourth annual Internet Cat Video Festival is tonight — and it promises to be claw-some.

The festival will include the hottest cat videos of the meow-ment, curated by feline aficionado Will Braden. Braden is the creator of the Henri Le Chat Noir videos and a previous recipient of the festival's Golden Kitty Award.

The festival began in 2012 as an experiment on the lawn outside the Walker Art Center. 10,000 people showed up, paw-sitively packing the park. The next year, the festival took over the grandstand at the Minnesota State Fair. After a return to the Walker in 2014, the festival moves to a new location tonight: CHS Field in Lowertown, St. Paul.

The roughly 100 cat videos that will be shown tonight aren't all comedy: The categories include Drama, Animated, Musical, Action, Vintage and Documentary. One lucky cat will pad away with the 2015 Golden Kitty award.

Disabled Veteran Rescues Cat Who Rescues Him Too

Source: Love Meow

A disabled veteran saved a cat but what he didn’t know was the cat rescued him too. “I’m a disabled veteran and this is my cat Camille-lynn who helps with my anxiety issues from things that happened to me in the army,” reddit user rukia8492 wrote.

He shares his story with Love Meow:

I have nine years of service in the military with three tours of Afghanistan.

Camille-lynn came into my life in late November 2013 while I was stationed in Hawaii. I had just had surgery on my right ankle to reconstruct the tendons which was extremely painful. While I was recovering my wife saw a post on the Schofield barracks pet page of Facebook asking if anybody would like a cat free to a good home. My wife asked me if we could have her and I said ‘Yes!’. We drove over and took her home. That cat was Camille-lynn. After a few days where she became used to our home I noticed Camille was extremly affectionate.

A week and a half after we got Camille I had one of my anxiety attacks that are the result of an incident that happened in my second tour of Afghanistan where I was the first person on the scene of a helicopter crash and pulled the survivors to safety and recovered the bodies of those that had perished. During my anxiety attack, Camille walked onto my chest as I lay on my bed and began to knead her paws on my chest. Around this time she also began to sleep either near me or on me.
