Here’s why Hillary Clinton is about to start airing TV ads in Nebraska

Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign said Thursday that it would expand its eight-state television advertising effort to include what at first blush might seem an unlikely location: heavily Republican Nebraska.

The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is planning to go up in the state’s 2nd Congressional District, which is centered on the city of Omaha.

Nebraska is one of only two states that awards part of its electoral votes based on congressional district. The other is Maine. In Nebraska’s case, two of the state’s five electoral votes go to the statewide winner. The other three are distributed on the basis of performance in its three congressional districts.

In 2008, then-Sen. Barack Obama successfully executed the same strategy, edging out Republican nominee John McCain in the 2nd District and picking up a single electoral vote. Four years later, GOP nominee Mitt Romney swept the entire state.

Cheap gold mines gone as buyers go for bullion

So much for the run on cheap gold mines. Producers who were forced by slumping prices to unload assets last year are regaining leverage.

With bullion off to its biggest rally to start a year in four decades -- aided by the U.K.'s vote to quit the EU -- mine buyers are paying higher premiums and the pace of deals is accelerating, data compiled by Bloomberg show.

The value of reserves held by major producers has almost doubled since the third quarter of last year, according to Bloomberg Intelligence.

The revival comes after a three-year slump led to losses, rising debt and a fire sale of assets. With valuations dropping, private equity firms and companies including Zijin Mining Group Ltd. pounced.

Judge orders continued detention of Tooele man accused of going on the ‘offensive’ against feds with

Source: Salt Lake Tribune

A federal judge on Thursday ordered the continued detention of a Tooele County man accused of attempting to bomb a BLM cabin in northern Arizona as part of an "offensive" against the federal government.

FBI agent Steve Daniels said at Wednesday's detention hearing that agents had seen a car on a dirt road near the BLM cabin on the night of June 22, when Stockton resident William Keebler is accused of trying to detonate a pipe bomb that he had ordered built and knew to be placed on the cabin door.

That led Magistrate Judge Dustin B. Pead to believe Keebler is accused of acting with "perhaps some indifference to bystanders," he said Thursday.

Pead also expressed concern that Keebler allegedly cased a BLM office, an FBI office and a mosque in Salt Lake City, as well as Army National Guard facilities.
