Prescott Bush (father of HW/grandfather of W), along with Federal Reserve founders Paul Warburg and John D. Rockefeller, laundered money to Hitler, before and during his rise to power. Bush was the only one to have his company seized under the Trading with the Enemy Act. The Bushes, Warburgs, and Rockefellers are part of the root of the two party stranglehold.

Bundy is a Liar, Of Course ...

Local TV Station Sheds Doubt On Bundy's Claims About His Family Ranch

Cliven Bundy has trumpeted his "ancestral rights" in his land-use dispute with the federal government, but a report on Monday from a Nevada television station placed doubt on the defiant rancher's claims.

KLAS in Las Vegas obtained property records showing that Bundy's parents purchased the family's ranch in 1948. The Bunkerville, Nev. ranch has been the site of a tense standoff with the federal government over Bundy's use of land managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

Those records appear to contradict Bundy's own history of the ranch, as well as his biography.

"I've lived my lifetime here. My forefathers have been up and down the Virgin Valley here ever since 1877. All these rights that I claim, have been created through pre-emptive rights and beneficial use of the forage and the water and the access and range improvements," Bundy told KLAS before the government's round up began.

The standoff has made Bundy a hero among conservatives like Sean Hannity.

BP: Four Years On, No Restoration in Sight

Joe Yerkes is a Florida fisherman who joined BP's Vessels of Opportunity (VOO) oil cleanup program because he was put out of work by BP's 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil disaster.

Following the 2010 explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, which killed 11, a sea-floor oil gusher flowed for 87 days until it was capped nearly three months later.

The disaster, which began on April 20, 2010, released at least 4.9 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, coupled with 1.9 million gallons of toxic chemical dispersants that BP and the US Coast Guard used.

Yerkes was exposed to both oil and dispersants while working to clean up oil during his stint in the VOO program.

"I have spent the years since the spill happened literally trying to survive," Yerkes told Truthout. "I've lost five friends now who were also exposed to BP's oil and dispersants, who were unable to seek proper treatment to extract the chemicals from their bodies before the exposure killed them."

Mitch McConnell Says He Stood Up for Women in a Sexual-Harassment Scandal and The Real Story Is ...

Facing his toughest reelection battle in years against a well-known and well-financed female opponent, Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) recently boasted that he led the Senate in ousting a GOP colleague accused of sexual harassment in 1995. But news reports from that time show that late in the investigation, McConnell tried to stall the probe against his fellow Republican, Sen. Bob Packwood (R-Ore.). He derided efforts by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) to hold public hearings on Packwood as "frolic and detour"—after the Senate ethics committee had substantiated nearly two-dozen claims of sexual harassment leveled against Packwood by female lobbyists and former staffers.

Talking about the Packwood scandal this past week, McConnell noted that he was chair of the Senate ethics committee when Packwood resigned. In a Tuesday interview with the Lexington Herald-Leader, McConnell said he had taken "the toughest possible position." The newspaper reported that McConnell had "offered himself as an example of how elected officials should handle situations when a member of their own party is accused of sexual harassment."

But the bulk of the ethics probe against Packwood took place when the committee was chaired by a Democrat. When Republicans regained a majority in the Senate after the 1994 elections and McConnell became chair of the committee, he transformed the Packwood investigation into a partisan mess.

Here's the backstory: In late November 1992, the Washington Post reported that at least 10 lobbyists and former Packwood staffers said they had been sexually harassed by Packwood. Several of the women claimed that Packwood had grabbed them or forcibly kissed them until they protested or pushed him away.

Submarine in Missing Plane Hunt Covers Two-Thirds of Area

An unmanned submarine hunting for a missing Malaysian aircraft has covered two-thirds of a targeted underwater search area in the Indian Ocean without finding any wreckage.

The Bluefin-21 is diving within a 10-kilometer (6-mile) radius of an area where signals were detected on April 8 that may have been emitted by one of Flight 370’s black boxes, said the Joint Agency Coordination Centre, the Australian agency set up to oversee the operation from Perth. The submarine will start its ninth mission later today and as many as 10 planes and 11 ships will comb 49,491 square kilometers of ocean for debris, it said by e-mail.

At 45 days, the hunt for the Malaysian Airline System Bhd. (MAS) jet, which disappeared March 8 with 239 people on board, is the longest for a missing passenger plane in modern aviation history. The Bluefin-21’s side-scan sonar, which bounces sound waves off the ocean floor to create images of the seabed, is pivotal to the search for wreckage because the batteries in the aircraft’s black boxes have probably expired.

No signals have been detected since four audio pulses, which may have come from the crash-proof recorders, were detected from April 5 to April 8. The use of the submarine is the latest phase of an international search for the plane’s black boxes.

Stunning New Orchid Species Discovered

""

A gorgeous species of orchid in Panama has a new name — it was named after the family of the researcher who discovered the flower.

The orchid, which belongs to the Lophiaris genus, was named Lophiaris silverarum after Katia Silvera, a postdoctoral scholar at the Universityof California, Riverside, and her father, who discovered the plant about eight years ago while they were hiking in a mountainous area of central Panama.

"I have always liked orchids, since I was a kid," said Silvera, who grew up surrounded by orchids because her parents own a commercial orchid business in Panama. "That got me into studying biology," Silvera said.
