Hey all

I'm not a resident of Appalachia, but I am a Southerner as in Deep South.

tHp invited me to stop by, so I did. It looks like this is a vibrant, active and healthy community. That's something all of us wish to be a part of .

No one in this group

should be subjected to horrible accusations for standing up for marriage equality. NONE.

Jimmy Carter said something I disagreed with.

That does not make me, or anyone in this group a rabid Republican. Ironically, the only people that participated in that thread, stirring shit are ... Straight..

We shouldn't have to put up with that in this group. I don't like bullies no matter what mask they wear.

Kitty ripped out a front claw!

It is no longer bleeding and I can handle it to inspect it because she trusts me, but she has been shorn a claw. I don't know if something that she grabbed decided it wanted to get loose (squirrel? possum?) or if she got it hung up in something.

Should I be overly concerned? She doesn't display problems walking. It's just ... gone, and there is a bloody nib. She is inside most of the time, maybe goes out for 6 hours a day. She's inside right now asleep.

Linux Mint - Sound quality

Anyone have any ideas to tweak sound quality? I dropped to the console and alsamixer but it still is rather weak even jacking them up to 100. I have a sound card, but it doesn't have drivers for linux (oxygen 8788 chipset) so I'm trying to make the on board sound okay.

Suggestions? My onboard is a realtek on a high-end MB with SLI, Intel, obviously.

I would rather use my high end sound card, so if anyone knows where I can get a package for the a Razer Barracuda AC-1 that would be better!

I'm running Mint x64

3.13.0-24-generic kernel

I think I've *finally* figured out how to make the best baked potato

I love them and I can't remember which DUer turned me on to baking them directly on the oven rack, but that was a fantastic suggestion.

I cooked my delicious spuds at 450 F for 65 minutes. Crispy on the outside, luscious on the inside.

I can't thank whoever suggested cooking them directly on the oven rack enough.

It all went to hell

My father, to put it politely, is a complete authoritarian asshole. I don't like to help him with things because he is a micro-manager and believes in the "kick-down" theory of management.

The dryer at my parent's house has a dryer line that periodically needs to be drained due to ill construction. Mom just takes the wet/dry vac and sucks it out. I help her do it. Well I made the mistake of telling my father that I was helping her do this.

His eyes lit up with excitement that there was something he could direct me to do! (He's recently retired) It was a project he could manage, wave his cane and direct his servants (me) in doing since they could benefit from his wisdom!

My blood pressure went to 212/134 and I walked away. I'm shaking I'm so pissed.

212/134

I'm guessing that probably isn't a good blood pressure reading.

(He is recently retired, and he is craving something to do - which means he is craving to find everyone ELSE something to do while he "manages&quot It was a project he could manage and direct his servants in doing since they could benefit from his wisdom!

I had to walk the hell away. When he sticks his nose in something, you have to cater to his ego, and I am not fucking interested in doing so.

Lemon or Lime

I love both to add a bit of tart and sour to a dish, particularly chicken or salsa.

So, which do you prefer, and why if there is a specific reason?

Is anyone here

in a situation where you are TERRIFIED if your family dies? I'm a late in life baby - very late, and my parents are in their 80's.

I don't know what I will do without them, how to handle their affairs, my sister doesn't come around unless there is profit/vanity involved +1500 miles away (her husband is worse).

I love both of them so much, and while they are in good health, it gets risky at that age. I live very close by and do everything under the sun that I can to keep them from getting hurt.

I live in fear that something would happen to one of them on my watch.
