Author of "The Apprentice" Talks Of Getting Trolled And Sourcing Stories

Fresh Air (NPR)
October 1, 2018
By Terry Gross

These are highly charged times for politics reporters, just ask Greg Miller, the Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post journalist who has broken a number of stories related to the Trump administration's ties to Russia.

Miller says that he's been "trolled a lot" because of his work.
But after revealing that then-national security adviser Michael Flynn had discussed U.S. sanctions with Russian officials prior to Trump's inauguration, Miller experienced something new: notes from grateful readers.

"Weird things happen that had never happened to me as a reporter," Miller says.
"Several of us started getting cards, actual letters in the mail, thanks from readers, from faraway places, notes even on my doorstep at home."

Ultimately, Miller's story about Flynn contributed to Flynn's ouster from the administration -- a fact Miller says brought him "no pleasure."
But, Miller adds, "at the same time, as a reporter, there is nothing better than to be able to get to the bottom of a complex story that there are so many people who are trying to prevent you from getting at."

Miller further investigates the links between Russia and the Trump administration in his new book, "The Apprentice: Trump, Russia and the Subversion of Democracy"
(which is being released tomorrow, Oct. 2, 2018)

Judiciary Committee Reviews New Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Kavanaugh

NPR
September 26, 2018

The Senate Judiciary Committee is reviewing a statement from a third woman who has come forward with sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

The allegations, from a woman identified as Julie Swetnick, were made public by attorney Michael Avenatti Wednesday morning.

Avenatti posted Swetnick's three-page sworn declaration on Twitter.

NPR is not reporting some of the details involved in the allegations; attempts to contact Swetnick had not succeeded on Wednesday morning.

Kavanaugh has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct.

McConnell tamps down any talk of Kavanaugh withdrawal

The Hill
September 18, 2018
05:00 PM EDT

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is privately warning GOP colleagues that there will be political fallout for the party if they fail to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, quashing any talking within his conference about pressuring Kavanaugh to drop out.

McConnell gathered Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee in his Capital Hill office Tuesday to buck up their resolve to get the nominee confirmed before the election, according to lawmakers who attended.

"McConnell's message was, 'Get it Done!' He said there are a few issues that voters care about and the Supreme Court is one of them," said one Republican senator who requested anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.

The lawmaker said this stern message from McConnell has tamped down any talk of pressing Kavanaugh to withdraw his name though "some of us may be thinking it."
