What's your favorite Yogi Berra quote?

I think my favorite Yogism is a comment he made after the Yankees stayed at a particular hotel.

"The towels were so thick there I could hardly close my suitcase."

Thanks To Sarah Josepha Hale For Giving Us Thanksgiving

(From Wikipedia)

Sarah Josepha Hale (October 24, 1788 - April 30, 1879) may be the individual most responsible for making Thanksgiving a national holiday in the United States.
It had previously been celebrated only in New England.
Each state scheduled it's own holiday, some as early as October and others as late as January.
It was largely unknown in the American South.
Her advocacy for the national holiday began in 1846 and lasted 17 years before it was successful.
In support of the proposed national holiday, Hale wrote letters to five Presidents of the United States: Zachary Taylor, Milliard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan, and Abraham Lincoln.
Her initial letters failed to persuade, but the letter she wrote to Lincoln convinced him to support legislation establishing a national holiday of Thanksgiving in 1863.
The new national holiday was considered a unifying day after the stress of the American Civil War.
Before Thanksgiving's addition, the only national holidays celebrated in the United States were Washington's Birthday and Independence Day.

"Nor need we power or splendor, wide hall or lordly dome; the good, the true, the tender - these form the wealth of home."

Sarah Josepha Hale

RAQQA'S DIRTY SECRET
BBC

The BBC has uncovered details of a secret deal that let hundreds of IS fighters and their families escape from Raqqa, under the gaze of the U.S. and British-led coalition and Kurdish-led forces who control the city.

Lorry driver Abu Fawzi thought it was going to be just another job.

He drives an 18-wheeler across some of the most dangerous territory in northern Syria.
Bombed-out bridges, deep desert sand, even government forces and so-called Islamic State fighters don't stand in the way of a delivery.

But this time, his load was to be human cargo.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters opposed to ISIS, wanted him to lead a convoy that would take hundreds of families displaced by fighting from the town of Tabqa on the Euphrates River to a camp further north.
The job would take six hours, maximum - or at least that's what he was told.

But when he and his fellow drivers assembled their convoy early on 12 October, they realized they had been lied to.

Instead, it would take three days of hard driving, carrying a deadly cargo - hundreds of ISIS fighters, their families, and tons of weapons and ammunition.

Incapacitated CA Man Arrested 2 Days After Suing Cops For Brain-Damage Injuries From Previous Arrest

Raw Story
November 11, 2017

A disabled northern California man finds himself behind bars only days after filing a civil rights lawsuit against excessive force by police that allegedly caused his brain damage.

John Hernandez is "totally disabled" and has trouble speaking.
He has only recently relearned how to walk again.
Hernandez and his mother gave a heart-wrenching interview with (Channel) 40 in Sacramento on Tuesday.

Two days after filing his lawsuit, Hernandez was arrested and his mother claims the six police officers sent to arrest her disabled son again used excessive force.

"In a situation where we have a person that is likely to run, we have a responsibility to not only establish containment around the residence, but also have sufficient officers to search a residence and affect an arrest inside," Tracy Police Department Lt. Tony Matuska said of the six officers sent to apprehend Hernandez.

"John can't run, doesn't know how..Not anymore," his mother said.
"He used to be a really good runner, but John had to learn how to walk and talk all over again."

Trump Advisors "Flip Out" When Sean Spicer Revealed He Was On Forbidden Floor Of Trump Tower

Raw Story
November 10, 2017

Ousted White House press secretary Sean Spicer caused a panic among Trump advisors, who "flipped out" over worries he may have admitted a violation of a federal court ruling according to a new report in POLITICO.
Reporters Annie Karni and Josh Gerstein report on outreach they received after an oral history was published by "GQ Magazine' on Tuesday.

"After the interview was published, four people who worked with Spicer on the campaign and at the RNC reached out to POLITICO to express surprise that he highlighted his presence on the fifth floor - which served as the nerve center of the campaign's poll-monitoring operation and data war room that day - because party employees were given strict instructions prohibiting them from going there," POLITICO noted.

The "unfinished" fifth floor of Trump Tower was the "war room" according to Trump national field coordinator and battleground states director Matt Mowers, as recounted to "GQ" in the oral history.

"A group of us gathered on the fifth floor of Trump Tower in what could be described as basically an over-sized utility room.
Stepien's going through key counties, Florida in particular - Broward, Miami Dade, southern Florida...What's in, what's not...I would say that at least through 7:30, 8 o'clock, it was a very cautiously optimistic view," is the statement from Spicer that so alarmed the Trump team.

All four sources that reached out to POLITICO to dispute Spicer's account remembered seeing large signs reminding RNC staffers to keep out.
Sean Spicer was the communications director for the RNC.
