Demand that the major news networks cover voter suppression (PETITION)

MoveOn.org

Millions of voters around the country are denied access to the ballot box, and yet this terrifying story is rarely told on the news.
As the 2016 election campaign heats up, we demand that the major networks cover voter suppression as a prominent news story by assigning at least one reporter to a permanent "voter suppression" beat.

Former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman Sent To Solitary Confinement....Again!

Washington Post
April 29, 2016

"Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman sent to solitary confinement"

Former Alabama Governor Don E. Siegelman was sent to solitary confinement this week at the Louisiana facility in which he is imprisoned on political corruption charges, according to his son, Joseph Siegelman.

Siegelman, 70, was quoted extensively in a Washington Post article this week on former Virginia Governor Robert F. McDonnell, whose 2014 conviction on public corruption charges was reviewed by the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

Siegelman was transferred to solitary confinement at Oakdale, LA. on Monday after the story was posted online, according to his son, who said he found the timing suspicious.

But Bureau of Prisons officials, who refused to confirm that the former governor was in solitary confinement, said that there was no link.

"The allegation that Mr. Siegelman was punished for talking to a reporter is false," a spokesman for the bureau said in an e-mailed statement.
"Due to confidentiality concerns, we cannot speak specifically about disciplinary matters of a particular inmate."

Joseph Siegelman said his father had told him that he was being punished for three infractions: running a business from prison, misuse of the mail, and a catch-all prohibition against behavior that is disruptive of prison operations.

An official at the prison said that the incident report was about a T-shirt that Siegelman sold on eBay, which was mentioned in the Post article and had been reported on in Alabama media.

Justice for Dog Shot in Face and Left to Choke to Death (PETITION)

Source:
AnimalPetitions.org

In a shocking case of animal cruelty, a nearly-dead dog was found choking and left to die.
The dog was affixed to a post by a short leash and choke chain with no room to move without cutting off it's air.

The dog, which was found by a man walking his own dog, was struggling to breathe.
The chocolate lab named Bear, had his mouth taped shut so he could not bark and sttract any help.
His eyes were swollen shut from being shot in the face and severely beaten.

Bear's injuries were so severe that he had to be transported to the University of Illinois veterinary clinic.
He has multiple fractures in his jaw and will require extensive surgery to remove bone fragments, though the damage is so extensive that surgeons will not be able to repair the jaw.

Veterinarians think he will never be able to eat hard food again.
He suffers from a host of other medical conditions, including mange, dehydration, and eye infections.
His thyroid levels are currently so low that he will have to wait for his much-needed surgery.

While the owners of the dog have been found, they claim that Bear ran away one day prior to being found tied to a post.
However, dehydration, mange, and infection suggest that the dog had been neglected for a long time.

Please sign the petition at the link below to demand that the owners are investigated and charged for their role in this heinous tragedy:

Feds To Trap Wolf Father

Source:
Center for Biological Diversity

The wold known as "Guardian" - leader of the Southwest's Luna pack, loyal mate and expectant father - works hard to provide for his growing family.

But the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service plans to trap him the minute his pups are born, then lock up for the rest of his life.
He'll never see his mate or babies again and likely never have another chance to raise a family.

Without him there to help protect and feed his family, the new mother and her pups' future will hang in the balance too.

Mexican gray wolves in Arizona and New Mexico are among the most endangered animals in the world.
Just 87 remain in the wild after relentless killings and losses from poaching, political pandering and government mishandling.

Low genetic diversity means that biologically, as well as socially, every lobo is vital to this population's survival.
Removing even one is a tragic waste.

Guardian is accused of preying on a rancher's cows, but when ranchers don't follow good, proven practices to protect their cattle - like removing livestock carcasses of animals that have died naturally from the range so wolves and other wild carnivores don't find them - innocent animals like Guardian pay the price.
And we move closer to another extinction.

The Gila National Forest should be a safe place for wolves - but private ranchers expect Uncle Sam to turn our wildlands into tame pastures for unattended livestock.

Lobos have every right to live on these lands without persecution.

Grieving wolves have been known to howl so despondently after losing a mate that they permanently damage their vocal chords.

And Guardain deserves to watch his pups grow up.

What can we do about this?

We can call the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services and ask them to reconsider the decision to trap Guardian.
by calling 1-800-344-WILD
and by e-mailing them at:
http://www.fws.gov/duspit/contactus.htm

We can also call the White House Comment Line and ask President Obama to stop the Fish & Wildlife Services from trapping Guardian, so that he can stay with his family, and help them survive.
White House Comment Line: 202-456-1111

White House Switchboard 202-456-1414

We can also send an-e-mail to President Obama to ask him to not allow Guardian to be trapped and removed from his family at:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact

(Note: I recommend doing all of the above)

For more information about the impending removal of Guardan from his family,

A Living Nightmare For Baby Seals

April 22, 2016

It's been 12 days since the beginning of the commercial seal slaughter, and the ice flows off the coast of Canada have turned crimson red.

The air rings with the terrified cries of the chubby, helpless seal pups who are still too young to flee from the guns and "hakapiks" -- thick wooden bats with a sharp metal hook -- used by sealers to kill these babies before the skin is torn off their bodies.

Since the start of the commercial seal slaughter earlier this month, tens of thousands of baby seals have been killed.

Although there is no international market for seal products and there is overwhelming support both at home and abroad to stop the slaughter, the Canadian government is holding on with all it's might, stubbornly continuing to prop up this dying industry with millions in taxpayer funds.

This year, Canadian officials have once again told sealers that they will be allowed to kill up to 400,000 young harp seals before the massacre ends.

But in recent years, the sealers haven't reached their annual quota because kind people from around the world (including Canadians) have taken action against the slaughter.

The global market for sealskins has almost entirely disappeared.
It shows no signs of recovering, leaving the skins of most of the animals killed last year sitting in warehouses unsold.

And yet the Canadian government, alone in the world, props up the seal slaughter.

In addition to bans in the U.S. and Russia, the E.U.'s ban on commercial seal products has withstood multiple challenges from a Canadian government fighting hard to foist off a bloody product that no one wants, and most people find repulsive.

The commercial sealskin trade has essentially been eliminated worldwide, and even attempts to sell seal products in China have fallen flat.

What can we do about it?

If you live in Canada, you can contact Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and ask him to please stop the baby seal slaughter now.
If you know any Canadians, you can call or e-mail them and ask them to contact Trudeau to ask him to end this totally unnecessary slaughter of these gentle, sweet, innocent babies ASAP.

Contact Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:

Or write him at:

For those who don't live in Canada, there is an on-line petition:
"Help End The Commercial Seal Slaughter"

As of today, more than 358,000 people have signed this petition; and they are hoping to get to 360,000 signatures.
I am not affiliated in any way with PETA.
If anyone knows of any other active petition to stop the baby seal slaughter, please leave that information in a reply to this post.
I was unable to find any other current on-line petition to stop the baby seal slaughter.

Justice for Kona the Dog, Stolen and Left to Die in Hot Car (PETITION)

Animal Petitions.org

Bill Robbins had good intentions when he left his car and air conditioner running for his beloved dog, Kona.
Only minutes later he was shocked to discover both his vehicle and Kona were nowhere to be found.

Surveillance video later depicted an unknown man entering Robbins' vehicle shortly after he had stopped by his place of work.
Kona could be seen happily licking the intruder while they both left the parking lot.

Robbins offered an $8,000 cash reward for information leading to his dog's return and later received a tip from a concerned citizen pertaining to his car's location.

Robbins found the vehicle sealed on a hot Portland, Oregon day and he prayed that Kona would be okay.

He found him lying dead on the passenger side floor, most likely due to heat stroke.

Days later, Francisco Gonzalez was arrested in relation to the crime.
Gonzalez had his own dog with him upon arrest.

Kona's owner reported: "I can't even believe he had a dog after the way he would treat mine."

Join us and urge officials to rule that the person responsible be barred from ever having another animal under their care.

See Petition:
http://animalpetitions.org/130049/demand-justice-for-konas-death/

(Note: IMO, if this Francisco Gonzalez is found guilty of stealing the car, he should also be charged with animal abuse for causing the cruel, horrific death of an innocent dog, and he should also be prosecuted for that crime as well..I believe that Portland, Oregon has animal abuse laws, so those laws should apply in this case.
This guy needs to go to jail!)
