Trump to appoint Medicare privatizer as Secretary of Health & Human Services (PETITION)

Social Security Works.org
November 29, 2016

Nobody voted on November 8th to destroy Medicare, but Donald Trump and his colleagues in the Republican Party are taking their opportunity at unified government as an opportunity to declare war on Medicare.

Let's not forget: Both Trump and Hillary Clinton ran on protecting Medicare, over the objections of Republicans like Speaker Ryan.

This morning, President-elect Donald Trump announced that he will appoint House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Tom Price as his Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Within minutes, Speaker Paul Ryan praised the selection saying
"Price is the absolute perfect choice for HHS Secretary."
Ryan must be downright giddy over this appointment since Price has been a consistent ally in their fight to dismantle Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

Earlier this month Price confirmed Republicans' commitment to destroy Medicare through a parliamentary procedure called reconcilation
If successful, Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and Tom Price could bypass a Democratic filibuster to destroy Medicare - forcing seniors to pay out-of-pocket for private health insurance plans.

As HHS Secretary, Price will oversee a $1 trillion budget, including Medicare and Medicaid, which affect over 100 million Americans.

STAND WITH SOCIAL SECURITY WORKS AND SENATOR BERNIE SANDERS IN TELLING CONGRESS:
"NO ONE VOTED TO DESTROY MEDICARE"

Sign the Petition: "No One Voted To Destroy Medicare"

(Petition reads as follows)
"On November 8th, the American people did not vote to destroy Medicare
Your crusade to gut our earned benefits and turn Medicare into a voucher program will force seniors to pay more out of pocket, hurting low and middle income families while enriching the health insurance industry.
We demand that you immediately halt your plans to destroy Medicare and instead maintain President-elect Trump's pledge to preserve Medicare and Social Security."

Should Jill Stein ask for a "risk-limiting" audit?

From a November 18, 2016 article:
"USA Today: Still Time For An Election Audit"

Computers counted the vast majority of the 130 million votes cast in this year's election.
Did human error, computer glitches, hacking or other problems change the outcome?
About 25 percent of voters used machines that do not generate a paper trail.
Any hacking, glitches or other errors that affected their votes could be undetectable.
But the other 75 percent of the vote, including the key states of Michigan and Wisconsin, could be double-checked in various ways.

A full manual recount of the paper records would be definitive, but that's unnecessarily difficult, expensive and time-consuming if the results are actually right.

There's an easier way.

A "risk-limiting" audit is an audit that manually examines a random sample of the ballots in a way that has a large chance of detecting and correcting incorrect results.
If the reported winner of a contest really won, a risk-limiting audit generally needs to examine only a small fraction of the ballots.
But if the reported winner actually lost, a risk-limiting audit has a large chance of indicating that a full hand count is needed to set the record straight.

Risk-limiting audits are a crucial check on election integrity and accuracy even when elections are not controversial and margins are wide.
They have been endorsed by the Presidential Commission on Election Administration and many organizations concerned with election integrity.
Colorado law requires risk-limiting audits in 2017, and California law requires them for deploying some new voting systems.

There is no federal law mandating election audits.
A number of states perform some kind of audit, but our research shows those audits have little or no chance of detecting and correcting erroneous results.
To audit this election effectively will require immediate legal action.

Why does James Comey still have a job?

Daily Kos
November 28, 2016

When James Comey decided to issue his extraordinary letter to Congress just eleven days before the election, his baseless intrusion was unprecedented and immeasurable.
It was not just a violation of rules for both the FBI and the Justice Department, but a direct F-U to Hillary Clinton, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, President Obama and the democratic process.
It was enough that people from both parties were astonished by Comey's actions.

Senate Minority Leader harry Reid (D-NV), charged Comey with violating federal law prohibiting federal officials from engaging in political activities, in a message to Comey Sunday.

It's absolutely clear, from the moment he made his already staggering partisan decision to usurp the role of the Justice Department during the summer and administer a finger-shaking rebuke to Secretary Clinton while admitting that no crime had been committed, that James Comey was more concerned about his own PR than about genuine justice.

It's November 28, the election is over.

Why does James Comey still have a job?

Obama's, Bush's top ethics lawyers: Trump must sell businesses or Electoral College must reject him

Daily Kos
November 25, 2016

Judd Legum at Think Progress writes:

Richard Painter, Chief Ethics Counsel for George W. Bush, and Norman Elson, Chief Ethics Counsel for Barack Obama, believe that if Trump continues to retain ownership over his sprawling business interests by the time the electors meet on Dec. 19, they should reject Trump.

In an e-mail to Think Progress, Elson explained that "the founders did not want any foreign payments to the President, period."
This principle is enshrined in Article 1, Section 9 of the Constitution, which bars officeholders from accepting "any present, emolument, office. or title of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state."

This provision was specifically created to prevent the President, most of all, from being corrupted by foreign influences.

Elsen said that the Electors should insist that Trump set up a blind trust for all his enterprises as a condition for getting their votes.

Song describing Trump written nearly 30 years ago

Michael David Fuller (Dec 18, 1949 - Feb 1, 1989), better known under the stage name Blaze Fuller, was one of Austin's great unsung country singer-songwriters, who wrote a song about Ronald Reagan that is applicable to the jackass who is about to become this country's 45th President.

Oval Room by Blaze Fuller

In his Oval Room, in his rockin' chair,
He's the President, but I don't care
He's business man, he got business ties
He got dollar signs in both his eyes
Got a big airplane, take him everywhere
Got his limousine, when he gets there
Everywhere he goes, makes the people mad
Makes the poor man beg, and the rich man glad

He's the President, but I don't care
OOh, Ooooooh, Ooh

At the factory, never been so slow
Got a big fourth down, ninety nine to go
And down on the farm, nothing growing there
But the debts they owe, and their gray hair
In the desert sand, and the jungle deep
He thinks everything is his to keep
Talks to kings and queens on the telephone

He's the President, but I don't care
Ooh, Ooooooh, Ooh

He's a movie star, if you stay up late
And he'll search your car, if you don't look straight
In his Oval Room, in his rockin' chair
He's the President, but I don't care.

Should Hillary Clinton Ask For An Audit in Three Key States? (POLL)

"Secretive Push Underway to Audit Key 2016 Swing-State Vote Totals"
http://foreignpolicy.com/2016/11/23/secretive-push-underway-to-audit-key-2016-swing-state-vote-totals/

(From the above cited article published November 23, 2016)

..a group of computer science professors and lawyers are reportedly pushing Hillary Clinton's failed campaign to call for audits in three key swing states that clinched the election for Trump:
Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.
Last Tuesday, Gabriel Sherman of 'New York' magazine reported the demand by Alex Halderman, a well-regarded elections security expert, and John Bonifaz, a veteran Boston lawyer and activist. to push the Clinton campaign to seek recounts in the three states.

"The only way to know whether a cyberattack changed the result is to closely examine the available physical evidence - paper ballots and voting equipment in critical states like Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania," Halderman wrote.
"Unfortunately, nobody is ever going to examine that evidence unless candidates in those states act now, to petition for recounts."

In order for Clinton to win, she would have to overturn the results in all three states.
In the absence of any overt moves by the Clinton campaign to seek a recount, Green Party candidate Jill Stein said Wednesday that she would challenge the vote in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
Stein is raising money to fund that effort and is asking contributors to kick in for a total of $2 million.

Wisconsin law allows the Clinton campaign to demand a recount.
The deadline for doing so is Friday at 5 PM.

In a statement, the Pennsylvania Department of State said it was aware of the "New York" article, and said (the) state allows for an election outcome to be challenged in court within 20 days of the election.

Fred Woodhams, a spokesperson for Michigan's Department of State, told
"Foreign Policy" that state law there allows for the losing candidate to challenge an election outcome.
Doing so would cost the Clinton campaign about $120,000.
It would have to file a recount request by next Wednesday, Nov. 30.

NSA Chief Says Russia Hacked the 2016 Election..Congress Must Investigate

Mother Jones Magazine
November 16, 2016
By David Corn

NSA CHIEF SAYS RUSSIA HACKED THE 2016 ELECTION - CONGRESS MUST INVESTIGATE!

Despite all the news being generated by the change of power underway in Washington, there is one story this week that deserves top priority:
Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
On Tuesday, the Director of the National Security Agency, Admiral Michael Rogers, was asked about the WikiLeaks release of hacked information during the campaign and he said, "This was a conscious effort by a nation-state to attempt to achieve a specific effect."
He added, "This was not something that was done casually..This was not something that was done by chance..This was not a target that was selected purely arbitrarily."

This was a stunning statement that has echoed other remarks from senior U.S. officials.
He was saying that Russia directly intervened in the US election to obtain a desired end: presumably to undermine confidence in US elections or to elect Donald Trump - or both.
Rogers was clearly accusing Vladimir Putin of meddling with American democracy.
This is news worthy of bold and large front-page headlines - and investigation.
Presumably intelligence and law enforcement agencies are robustly probing the hacking of political targets attributed to Russia.
But there is another inquiry that is necessary: a full-fledged congressional investigation that holds public hearings and releases it's findings to the citizenry.

Vote Audit: Did Trump Win Fair-Election Or A Rigged One? New Movement Seeks Data On Suspicious Vote Counts

"Nearly two weeks after Donald Trump won the 2016 Presidential Election - and one month before the Electoral College is set to vote, making the results making the results permanent - a new movement wants to audit the November 8 vote, to investigate whether Trump won the election fair and square, or whether error and even fraud may have placed him in the White House.
One element of the vote audit movement is a Change.org online petition calling for election officials to 'double-check' the election results by conducting a 'risk limiting' audit of the presidential election that uses paper ballots.'"
Even a United States Senator, South Carolina Republican Lindsay Graham, has called for a congressional investigation into possible election tampering, particularly by Russian intelligence agencies."

Also, there is now a Democracy For America Petition:
"Sign The Petition: Swing States Need To Audit The Presidential Vote"
http://act.democracyforamerica.com/sign/audit_the_vote/

Contact the President and your Representatives in Congress:
Ask them to support a risk limiting audit of the 2016 presidential election before it's too late.

U.S. House Switchboard: 202-225-3121
U.S. Senate Switchboard: 202-224-3121

The best way to contact President Obama is by e-mail
http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact

If enough of us sent e-mails to POB asking him to do whatever he could to expedite an audit of the election, it might just happen, before it's too late..(but he would probably need to get thousands of such e-mails)
If it's left up to the Republican-controlled Congress, no such audit will ever happen.

So don't just bitch & moan about Trump, Comey, Putin & the GOP sabotaging the election..DO something about it!
Sign the petition!
Send an e-mail to President Obama!
Contact your 2 senators & your congressperson, regardless of whether or not they're Democrat or Republican.

Or, you can just sit on your butt & let Herr Trumph & the rethugs do whatever they want for the next 4 years (or possibly 8)

Orrin Hatch puts a big wrinkle in McConnell's'potential nuking of the filibuster rule

Daily Kos

CROTCHETY ORREN HATCH PUTS A BIG WRINKLE IN McCONNEL'S POTENTIAL NUKING OF THE FILIBUSTER RULE

Gleeful Republicans see nothing standing in their way to giving tax cuts to the rich, starving the olds and poors, and a Supreme Court that will put women back in the kitchen, pregnant and barefoot now that they have Donald Trump going to the White House and a lock on Congress.
Nothing, that is, but Senate Democrats and the filibuster.

The way around that is, of course, the way Democrats did it when Republicans were refusing to allow President Obama's appointments to get to the floor - modifying the Senate rules with 51 votes to end the filibuster on them.
So McConnell just has to do that with the 52 votes he now has
(or likely will following the Louisiana run-off), right?
Or not.

On Wednesday, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) may have put a dagger in the scheme.

Asked by the Huffington Post about ending the filibuster, he was blunt:
"Are you kidding?" he said with some vehemence.
"I'm one of the biggest advocates of the filibuster.
It's the only way to protect the minority, and we've been in the minority a lot more than we've been in the majority.
It's just a great, great protection for the minority."

Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC), the most vehement of the Never Trumpers, agrees, telling reporters on Tuesday that it's "a horrible, terrible idea," and he would oppose on the floor "in a heartbeat."

Where Graham goes, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is pretty likely to follow, so there's a definite two and probably three votes to derail any visions that McConnell has of neutering the Democrats.

Trump issues a warning to Obama - Stop talking to the rest of the world, it's mine now

Daily Kos
November 11, 2016

President Obama still has a couple of months in office.
he might use (that time) to launch peace talks, or negotiate an arms reduction, or assist with a crisis.
But Donald Trump's team is issuing a warning:

KEEP YOUR HANDS INSIDE THE COUNTRY

Before Donald Trump won the presidency, domestic foreign policy circles hummed with talk that an outgoing President Barack Obama could take a last stab at peace talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
There was also a strong expectation that Obama would push hard for Congress to approve the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.

But now that they're on the verge of power, Trump aides say Obama shouldn't even think about taking such steps.

It's hard to find a fan of the TPP these days, but..would negotiating peace be such a bad thing?
Is Donald Trump against peace?

Actually, it's impossible to say what Trump is against..Or what he's for.
Because with the exception of a few things he's vowed to bomb the $#!^ out of, there really isn't much to know about Donald Trump's foreign policy.
