Do you have a favorite Yogi Berra quote?

Lorenzo Pietro "Yogi" Berra died last night after a long illness.

He was 90.

Probably the most unique character in baseball history, Yogi was truly "one of a kind."

His quotes are often called "Yogi-isms"

One time, on a road trip, Yogi said of the hotel the Yankees stayed at:

"The towels were so thick there I could hardly close my suitcase."

The Statue of Liberty is Crying -- by Don Siegelman

September 9, 2015

I wonder how Mr. Trump feels watching the Statue of Liberty cry?

Our "Mother of Exiles," sees the pain and tragedy unfolding on distant shores - immigrants, refugees from war ravaged lands, leaving behind their elderly and weak - those who slip quietly into the night, praying dawn will bring peace.

With the world's back turned against them, most leave for the sake of their children.
The men would rather stay and fight; but the imbalanced war gives them little chance.
They leave, spending what they have and risking their lives.

They make for our "Golden Doors" to freedom on far off shores.

But we sit in comfort, watching the worn and weak and helpless fall victim to freedom's siren call.

The "Mother of Exiles," our Lady, the Statue of Liberty remembers when she was younger,
when America's leaders were crying out:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send those, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Now her tears bear witness to the pain, but what she finds most troubling is our silence.

"Are we so poor we cannot share with those who suffer more?
Are we so comfortably complacent that their life and death struggles do not penetrate our collective soul," she asks.

"Remember your ancestors!
Your fathers and mothers came and I greeted them and I gave them comfort.
Now is the time again to reach out to the huddled masses seeking to breathe free,"
cries our "Mother of Exiles"

SurveyUSA shows Trump Winning the Presidency - Ring of Fire Explains Why This is Hogwash

Ring of Fire Radio
September 8, 2015

SurveyUSA, a national political survey company, conducted a poll on September 2 and September 3 of 1,000 U.S. adults.
SurveyUSA claims that Donald trump is beating Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Joe Biden in head-to-head match-ups.
Corporate media is running with this survey to show that Donald trump is the real deal, America's next President.
The Republican Party is dancing in the streets.
The problem is that the results of the survey are absurd, and yet no one in corporate media is questioning it.

What is the problem with the survey?
The most obvious is that it doesn't pass the smell test when you look at the results.
This should be the very first clue that something went wrong in the surveying techniques.
Specifically, SurveyUSA shows Trump winning 25% of black voters and 31% of Hispanic voters.
This is absurd.

In the elections of 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012, blacks voted for the GOP candidate
9 percent, 11 percent, 4 percent, and 6 percent, respectively.
Yet SurveyUSA wants us to believe that black voters have suddenly decided that Trump is worthy of 25 percent of their support.

Even more absurd is the Hispanic result.

How Trump Continues To Lead The Polls

Recent polls indicate that, despite public outcry against his incendiary comments on women and minorities, Donald trump is still the leading Republican candidate.
Here are some reasons Trump stays so popular with his supporters:

--- Highly relatable lack of qualifications for holding public office
--- Americans' appreciation for classic underdog story of man who started with only several
hundred million dollars and went on to make several billion dollars
--- Only candidate to publicly state willingness to make America great again
--- Exploits other Republican candidates weaknesses by allowing them to open their mouths and
speak on issues
--- Very, very handsome
--- Voters eager to see presidential library with three infinity pools and rooftop driving range
--- Bolstered by impassioned endorsement from Donald Trump
--- Eccentric, megalomaniac billionaire still more relatable to average American than anyone
willing to dedicate life to politics
--- Appeals to widespread desire to see nation implode sooner rather than later

Let's Adopt the GOP's National Platform - by Jim Hightower

The National Republican Party has published an official policy document showing that the GOP really might be more than a gaggle of serve-the-rich plutocrats and wacky, Trumped-up right-wingers.
Just when you thought the party was consuming itself in the know-nothingism of it's presidential pretenders and the recalcitrant do-nothingism of it's congress critters, out comes a sign of sanity.

In this 18-page manifesto, the party proclaims that, "Our government was created by the people for all the people, and it must serve no less a purpose."
ALL the people!
Forget pontifications by Wall Street billionaires dividing America into virtuous "creators"
(like themselves) and worthless "moochers" (like you and me) -- this document abounds with commitments to the common good.
"America does not prosper," it proudly proclaims on page three, "unless all Americans prosper."
Wow!...That's downright democratic!

And how's this for a complete turnaround:
":Labor is the United States. The men and women, who with their minds, their hearts and hands, create the wealth that is shared in this country - They are America."
Holy Koch brothers, share the wealth?

Yes, and how about this:
"The protection of the right of workers to organize into unions and the right to bargain collectively is the firm and permanent policy of the Republican Party."
Eat your heart out, Scott Walker, and you other labor-bashing GOP governors.
The document also supports our public postal service, the United Nations, equal rights for women, expanding out national parks, "vigorous enforcement of anti-trust laws," and raising the minimum wage.
New enlightenment in the Grand Old Party. Hallelujah!

Can all this be true?
Yes - except it's not new.
This document is the Republican Party Platform...of 1956.
