MPD: At least 10 shot at Ladd Peebles Stadium after HS football game

Source: KKTV (CBS Affiliate, Mobile, AL)

UPDATE (10:18 p.m.) — Mobile Police say at least 10 people have been shot at Ladd Peebles Stadium. Police say the age of those injured ranges from 15 to 18. Mobile Fire-Rescue confirms 10 people were transported to area hospitals. The five patients transported by MFRD were taken to the hospital in critical condition, but with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say two people are in custody. Police say they are questioning them, but have not confirmed if they are the shooters.

Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste asks “Why are the young people bringing this type of violence to public events. They’re bringing their beefs that they have with each other in their neighborhoods and they’re putting other people in harm’s way. ” Chief Battiste and the Mobile Police Department has been advocating to prevent teen violence in the city.

“We’re going to have to be more aggressive on our end, the city, as to how we hold the individual accountable when they go before the courts. We have got to make sure they understand that we will not tolerate juvenile violence in our community,” says Chief Battiste. Chief Battise says they will make sure the suspects are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

I've been struggling over writing this for over a week.

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/862298659886359413/

Last Tuesday we made the heart wrenching decision that it was time to
let our Bosley go. He had stopped eating, was sleeping 22-23 hours a
day, needed to be carried outside and then back in again. Liz and I can
still barely talk about it. I find myself getting out 5 cookies for
treats instead of 4, or two insulin hypos instead of just one.

Bosley was with us for something over 12 years and knew every dog and
cat we have ever owned. We had just gotten Dulcinea as a puppy to be a
companion for Sancho, our first Cavalier, and were taking her to puppy
school at Pet Smart. Sancho was not about to be left alone, so he came
along to class just to watch. The staff at Pet Smart realized we were
sort of Crazy Dog Folks. One day we arrived for Dulci's class an a
clerk came running up to us to tell us there was an adoption day going
on and they 'had one of your kind of dog!'. So naturally we had to go
look. In truth, Bosley wasn't a Cavalier, he was a King Charles Spaniel
(aka a Charlie), but we always considered him an honorary Cavalier. We
made it out of the store without him, since we had just gotten Dulci.
But the next day the Mrs. called me at work and said she just couldn't stop
thinking about 'that dog'. So I called Pet Smart, got the number for
the Shelter and called them. Turns out they had making bets on when we
would call. They brought him back to Pet Smart the next week and he
became out Bosi Bear.

He had been rescued from a Puppy Mill where he had been standing stud so
his life could have been worse, but it hadn't been great. When he came
to us he didn't have any idea how to go up or down stairs, he would come
if he were called but it was a slink with his tail between his legs. He
very quickly realized that his life had changed for the better and
wanted to do everything he possibly could to get our approval and love.
And he never stopped.

Shortly after we moved back to Ky he was diagnosed with diabetes. Our
vet told us that the average expectancy for diabetic dogs was 3-5
years. Bosley was going on 9 years a diabetic. We've been aware that
old age was catching up with him, but have been in denial. But last
week we couldn't deny any longer. It was one of the hardest good-byes
we have ever had to go through.

Run free, full of energy and no aches or pains at the Bridge, Bosi
Bear. Say Hi to Sancho and Dulci and Maggi for us and let them know
that we will be along presently. We love you dearly and miss you terribly.

Link Found Between Gun Violence and Cowardly Politicians (Borowitz)

Link Found Between Gun Violence and Cowardly Politicians

MINNEAPOLIS (The Borowitz Report)—There is a “significant link” between gun violence and cowardly politicians, a new study from the University of Minnesota asserts. The study, which is raising eyebrows with its startling conclusions, finds that the most reliable predictor of gun violence is the “prevalence of quiveringly fearful politicians in positions of power.”

As part of the study’s methodology, researchers examining gun violence compared countries ruled by non-cowards with those ruled by gutless toadies. “In countries ruled by non-cowards, such as New Zealand, gun violence is virtually nonexistent,” the study claims.

While the study’s authors paint a bleak picture of nations with “coward-rich” leadership, they offer a recommendation to remedy this dire state of affairs.

“While censoring movies or video games would have no measurable effect on gun violence, major strides can be made by replacing cowards in government with non-cowards,” the study suggests, noting that this theory could be tested as early as 2020.

I'm a little embarrassed, but I was on receiving end of a good deed today.

I don't talk about it much, but I have an incurable disease known as IPF (or Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis). It means that I have developed scar tissue on my lungs which restricts my breathing. You wouldn't have a clue if you saw me sitting on a park bench. I've slimmed down to my ideal weight, hair is thinning a bit but not bald, and all things considered I look pretty good. However I can't walk from one room to the next without getting short of breath.

So, when the Mrs. asks me to run to the store and pick up a few things, I'm more than happy to go, hang my handicapped placard on my rearview mirror and grab one of those electric shopping cards and get what we need. So today I had a pretty full cart and got into the checkout line. There was a woman ahead of me of didn't look a whole lot younger than me. She had loaded her groceries onto the belt and was waiting for the woman ahead of her to finish paying. She turned around to me and said: "Here, let me load your groceries onto the belt so you don't have to get up" and proceeded to do so.

Some people seem to think that if you don't have an obvious handicap you are riding in a card because you are lazy, or having fun. Others just assume if you are in a cart it is because you need one. The woman ahead of me in line was one of the latter. I thanked her for her concern and for assuming not all handicaps have to be visible to be real.

So thank you unknown shopper for being helpful to a stranger.

THE NRA'S FAVORABILITY RATING JUST SLID INTO NEGATIVE TERRITORY FOR THE FIRST TIME, FOX NEWS POLL SHOWS

A new Fox News poll shows that support for the National Rifle Association is dwindling and that its favorability rating has slipped into negative territory for the first time. The poll comes as President Donald Trump ponders introducing new gun control measures, such as tougher background checks, in the wake of two high-profile mass shootings.

According to the poll of 1,013 registered voters, 42 percent have a favorable view of the NRA and 47 percent have an unfavorable view, the first time the gun rights lobby group has had a net negative rating. Moreover, the 42 percent is favorability rating is the lowest since 2000, when it was 43 percent a year after the Columbine school shooting that rocked America.

And in another of the Fox poll's findings, 56 percent of gun-owning households have a positive view of the NRA, down from 67 percent the year before. There was also clear support for criminal background checks on all gun sales (90 percent) and banning assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons (67 percent).

The NRA did not respond immediately to Newsweek's request for comment.

Maybe, just maybe Gilroy/El Paso/Dayton was really a true tipping point.

SAWDUST Bliss Street 2019

SAWDUST © Bliss Street 2019
There’s sawdust on the barroom floor, and bloodstains on the walls.
The sounds of people screaming, from deep inside the hall.
The lights were swirling brightly, and the music playing loud,
When the crazed psychotic gunman opened fire on the crowd.
There’s people out there thinking that it really is ok,
The occasional gun massacre is a reasonable price to pay,
For the right to own a firearm that you’ll probably never use.
Oh look, here’s one looks like the flag, all reds and whites and blues.
But there’s bloodstains, on the bar room floor.
There’s bloodstains on the school room floor, crayon drawings on the wall,
And the sounds of children crying, from somewhere up the hall.
The kids were smiling sweetly, and the day was drifting past,
When the crazed psychotic gunman opened fire on the class.
There’s people out there thinking that it really is ok,
The occasional gun massacre is a reasonable price to pay,
For the right to own a firearm, no matter who you are,
You can get one off the internet, look, a shiny new AR
But there’s bloodstains, on the classroom floor.
There’s way too many guns out there, and they’re way too easy to buy,
And background checks are a joke my friend, at some gun shows they don’t even try.
And Biometric locks on guns are a good idea they say,
But the store that planned to offer them, was getting death threats every day.
And there’s bloodstains, on the schoolroom floor.
There’s people out there saying, that it really is ok,
The occasional gun massacre is a reasonable price to pay,
For the right to own a firearm, and the Legislators whine
There’s not a thing that we can do, and this is really not the right time.
But there’s bloodstains, on the classroom floor.

Ben Carson Tries To Use A Black Church To Defend Trump's Racism And Gets Kicked Off The Property

Ben Carson Tries To Use A Black Church To Defend Trump’s Racism And Gets Kicked Off The Property

Ben Carson will defend Trump at any costs but truly embarrassed himself when he tried to use a Baltimore church to babble about his complacency for white supremacy. Church officials kindly told him to go back to where he came from.

When Morning Star Baptist Church of Christ saw Carson’s team setting up shop for a press conference about Baltimore, they were told to get off the property. According to The Atlantic, Gregory Evans, 71, who is a member of the church for 50 years, asked, “Why did someone come onto church property without permission? This community needs some support on all kinds of issues—on dilapidated housing and everything else. All of a sudden you’re going to show up on our property and not even ask permission to be here?”

Evans said of Carson: “He’s using it as a photo op to make it look like they are doing something.”

Carson was perturbed and said on camera to CBS, “It’s a church! They say, ‘Get off my property.’ A church! … This is the level to which we have sunk as a society.”

Saw a great T-shirt today.

We were grocery shopping today. I was back in dairy and saw a mother with her two young daughters. (Just for the record, it was a black family.) The youngest daughter was somewhere around 6 (I am terrible at guessing kids ages.) She was wearing the greatest T-Shirt I have ever seen. It said "I Am The Future".

I walked up to mom and told her that I absolutely loved her daughter's T-Shirt! The smiles I got from mother and daughter just made my day!

"Moscow Mitch" is Now the Song of the Summer, Thanks to Ben Folds

“Moscow Mitch” is Now the Song of the Summer, Thanks to Ben Folds

During a concert in New York City Thursday night, Kesha collaborator Ben Folds debuted the unrivaled song of the summer: “Moscow Mitch”—a nickname given to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell due to his role in blocking election security legislation last week.

Performing on the roof of Pier 17, the former Ben Folds Five frontrunner paused his concert to address the audience: “What I want to do is put a little cool stutter in it, like, you know, ‘My-my-my-my-my-my Sharona.’ So what we’ll do is, we’ll go: Mah-mah-mah-Moscow Mitch. That’s it, okay?” While the song is mostly instrumental—save for two verses of Folds and the crowd yelling, “Mah-mah-mah-Moscow Mitch!” followed by a few laughs from the audience—it’s an undeniable banger.

The nickname has become immensely popular, trending on Twitter and spurring official fundraising merchandise. The name originated with Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough after he lambasted the GOP leader for “aiding and abetting Vladimir Putin’s ongoing attempts to subvert American democracy.” We’ll forgive the provenance of “Moscow Mitch,” the mild Russophobia, and the utter lack of creativity on the grounds that anything that gets under Mitch McConnell’s skin can’t be all bad.
