Trump Says He Is Only President in History with Courage to Stand Up to War Widows (Borowitz)

https://www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-report/trump-says-he-is-only-president-in-history-with-courage-to-stand-up-to-war-widows?mbid=nl_Borowitz%20102317&CNDID=27161810&spMailingID=12203589&spUserID=MTMzMTgyODIwMTg3S0&spJobID=1262048818&spReportId=MTI2MjA0ODgxOAS2

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) – Calling himself “unbelievably brave,” Donald Trump said on Monday that he is the only President in U.S. history with the courage to stand up to war widows.

“You look at guys like Obama and Clinton and the Bushes, when it came to war widows, they all blinked,” he said. “For years, we weren’t winning at widows.” In contrast, Trump said, he has made defeating war widows one of his top priorities as President. “Forget about Iran and China and Little Rocket Man,” he said. “This country has been pushed around by war widows for far too long.”

Trump said that Senator John McCain, who has mocked the President’s draft-dodging during Vietnam, has “never shown an ounce of courage when it comes to fighting war widows.”

“McCain can talk about what he did in Vietnam all he wants,” Trump said. “But the guys who have gone toe to toe with a war widow, contradicted her version of events, and refused to back down—we are the true heroes.”

Long Lost Dog Bursts Out In Joy After She Realizes The Man In Front Of Her Is Her Dad

http://www.reshareworthy.com/lost-dog-recognizes-dad/#JvRjIlAoOR8fF0VP.99

It had been two long years since Pakita the dog had seen her family. In that time, she was rescued as a stray off the street and brought to Argentina’s Arca Animal refuge where they tried to find her a home, but she was overlooked by potential adopters because of her age and her sad demeanor.

But the rescue continued to post up pictures of her to social media and tell everyone how sweet she was, until 2 years later Pakita’s family saw a picture of her.

Pakita’s grandmother (the mother of her owner, Ariel Naveira) saw the photo and immediately told her son and Arca Animal that Pakita was their long lost dog. Pakita had escaped from home and they had been searching for her ever since.

Skeptical at first, Pakita is her normal withdrawn self. But as the man (Ariel) gestures to her, she tentatively approaches. And then? It’s as if she suddenly recognizes his scent and “boom”, her entire disposition changes. Her tail begins to wag furiously and Pakita is literally jumping for joy!

John Kelly owes the congresswoman an apology

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/john-kelly-owes-the-congresswoman-an-apology/2017/10/20/c81205e2-b5c1-11e7-9e58-e6288544af98_story.html?utm_term=.13ffaa0e57f3

WHITE HOUSE Chief of Staff John F. Kelly owes Rep. Frederica S. Wilson (D-Fla.) an apology. That is the only conclusion that can be drawn after watching a video of the representative’s remarks at the dedication of an FBI building in Miramar, Fla., in 2015.

Mr. Kelly took to the lectern in the White House briefing room Thursday to defend President Trump’s handling of a condolence call to a widow of one of the soldiers killed in Niger and to attack Ms. Wilson as selfish and politically motivated for her criticism. To bolster that characterization, he offered up his remembrance of the dedication of the FBI building in memory of two FBI agents who had been killed in the line of duty. He claimed Ms. Wilson used the occasion to take unseemly credit for securing federal funding for the building. “We were stunned,” he said, “stunned that she had done it. Even for someone that is that empty a barrel, we were stunned.”

But, as a video by the Florida Sun Sentinel of Ms. Wilson’s remarks that day shows, Mr. Kelly got it all wrong. She did not say she got money for the building. She was generous and graceful in sharing credit for how legislation naming the building was fast-tracked. And she spent most of her nine-minute speech praising the FBI agents killed in a gunfight with drug dealers: “Today it is our patriotic duty to lift up Special Agent Benjamin Grogan and Special Agent Jerry Dove from the streets of South Florida and place their names and pictures high, where the world will know that we are proud of their sacrifice, sacrifice for our nation.”

It is unfortunate that the sacrifice of brave people such as these two agents or the four soldiers killed in Niger can get overwhelmed by the petty name-calling of politics. That is a point Mr. Kelly was trying to make Thursday, and that he undercut with his misrepresentation of Ms. Wilson. He needs to set the record straight.

Trump pardoned Sheriff Arpaio, but the court just refused to erase his crimes from the record

Source: Daily KOS

Only days after Gold Star family attacker Donald Trump pardoned former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio on August 25, the sheriff’s attorneys filed a motion to erase Arpaio’s criminal conviction from the history books:

"The President’s pardon moots the case, and it warrants an automatic vacatur of all opinions, judgments, and verdicts related to the criminal charge," Arpaio's attorneys said in their Aug. 28 motion.

<snip>

...which led to this summer’s criminal conviction for ignoring the court, a verdict that could have led to jail time. Enter Trump, the sheriff's birther brother, with his ludicrous pardon, which, by accepting, Arpaio admitted guilt. But while Arpaio's attorneys and Trump’s DOJ argued that the presidential pardon cancels the sheriff’s criminal conviction, US District Judge Susan Bolton ruled today that the only thing the pardon vacates is the penalty. The record stands. In her ruling, Bolton said while Trump's pardon "undoubtedly spared Defendant from any punishment that might otherwise have been imposed. It did not, however, 'revise the historical facts' of this case."

Judge Bolton’s ruling means more than maintaining the historical record; it means more than always appending “convicted criminal” to every Arpaio story. Even Arpaio’s attorney recognizes that the conviction “could hypothetically be used against him in future legal proceedings.”

Got some good news this evening.

Our son has a 15 year old mutt, who is a truly sweet dog. We got a call from him last week (our son, not the dog) that J.J. was having issues. He had some swollen discs in his neck and was in severe pain. The vet said the he really needed surgery, but that because of his age he probably wouldn't survive the surgery. The vet said they could try medication and pain killers to see if they could reduce the swelling. As you can imaging Tim (the son, not the dog) was very upset.

We just got a text from him (the son, not the dog) that J.J. was recovering and feeling much better and that the meds had worked. We were all (the son, us, and we are sure the dog as well) were exceedingly relieved to hear that J.J. is feeling so much better.

There is so much crap going on in the world today, that we will take any good news we can get, and hearing that J.J. will be around for a while yet lifted our spirits quite a bit.

OMG, the closed captioning!!

Watching The 11th Hour. Ending with a clip from the presser with Biden and Kasich.

Biden was talking about the incident when Trump shoved the President of Montenegro our of the way. Biden said something to the effect that 'an unnamed' leader at the conference said,

"...did you see? I was sitting with him and he stood up, puffed out his chest, stuck out his jaw, and pushed the President of Montenegro out of the way. All I could think was 'Il Duce' "

Unfortunately, the (computer?) generated closed-caption rendered it as:

"...all I could think was 'Il Douche'." Somehow seemed appropriate.

Trump Accepts Larry Flynts Ten-Million-Dollar Offer for Information Leading to His Impeachment

https://www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-report/trump-accepts-larry-flynts-ten-million-dollar-offer-for-information-leading-to-his-impeachment?mbid=nl_Borowitz%20101617&CNDID=27161810&spMailingID=12150126&spUserID=MTMzMTgyODIwMTg3S0&spJobID=1261384570&spReportId=MTI2MTM4NDU3MAS2

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Just minutes after the publisher Larry Flynt offered ten million dollars in exchange for information leading to Donald Trump’s impeachment, Trump contacted Flynt and said that he would gladly provide the information himself in exchange for the cash. According to Flynt, shortly after their phone conversation Trump sent him a voluminous number of e-mails, phone records, and other evidence of impeachable offenses, after which Flynt wired ten million dollars to Trump’s Swiss bank account.

“That was a lot easier than I thought it would be, to be honest,” Flynt told reporters.
The swift denouement to Trump’s tenure in the White House raised more than a few eyebrows in Washington, with some insiders wondering if Trump’s eagerness to accept the ten-million-dollar payment indicated that his net worth was considerably smaller than he had professed.

Robert Mueller, the independent counsel investigating Trump’s ties to Russia, expressed some sadness that he was not able to bring his probe to a conclusion. “I don’t know what evidence Trump had against himself, but I guarantee you I had more,” he said.

Meanwhile, the success of Flynt’s cash offer appears to have only emboldened the publisher, who announced that he is now offering twenty million dollars for information leading to the impeachment of Mike Pence.

The Holy Bible, according to Trump

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-holy-bible-according-to-trump/2017/10/13/53b37752-b01d-11e7-be94-fabb0f1e9ffb_story.html?utm_term=.b9649c32e77b

<snip>

And, on the topic of double standards, let us not forget the president. During the Harvey Weinstein fallout, Donald Trump Jr. and Kellyanne Conway have gleefully attacked private-citizen Hillary Clinton for failing to denounce Weinstein more quickly than she did — even though they vigorously defended the elder Trump when he was found to have boasted of sexual assault.

Such behavior seems uncharitable, if not downright hypocritical. But maybe I am using the wrong standard. The Bible is, after all, foreign law; none of it was written in America. It would, therefore, be in order for President Trump to revise biblical law by executive order — much as he used one this week to dismantle Obamacare without an act of Congress. He could place a copy of the order, etched in a 2 ½ -ton stone monument, in the White House Entrance Hall.

Some proposed revisions:

In Mark 12:31, after the phrase “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself” insert: “Thou shalt not interpret anything in Section 12:31 as applying to residents of Puerto Rico.”

The phrase, in Exodus 20:8-11, is hereby revised to state the following: “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Acceptable remembrances of the sabbath include (a) any golf played in Bedminster, N.J., (hereafter referred to as The Land of Milk and Honey); (b) any golf played at Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach, Fla. (hereafter referred to as the Garden of Eden).”

In Exodus 20:13, after the phrase “Thou shalt not kill,” insert the following: “Thou mayest, however, totally destroy North Korea, which thou shalt accomplish by expanding thy nuclear arsenal tenfold.”

In Exodus 20:14, following the phrase “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” insert: “What thou has done with thine previous wives is thine own business.”
