Hillary Clinton Vows That ISIS Attacks In Belgium Will Only Make Democracy Stronger

While Donald Trump urged Americans to hide in fear, Hillary Clinton vowed that the ISIS attacks in Belgium will make democracy stronger in the world.

Former Sec. of State Clinton said in a statement, “Terrorists have once again struck at the heart of Europe, but their campaign of hate and fear will not succeed. The people of Brussels, of Europe, and of the world will not be intimidated by these vicious killers. Today Americans stand in solidarity with our European allies. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those killed and wounded, and all the people of Belgium. These terrorists seek to undermine the democratic values that are the foundation of our alliance and our way of life, but they will never succeed. Today’s attacks will only strengthen our resolve to stand together as allies and defeat terrorism and radical jihadism around the world.”

If the attacks in Brussels become an issue in the US presidential campaign, they will highlight the difference in temperament and leadership between the two frontrunners.

In contrast to Clinton’s very presidential statement, Trump used the terror attacks to fearmonger about the Southern border:

As far as the primaries go, this event should strengthen Hillary's position. Her foreign policy experience is something Sanders can't match - except for voters who prefer isolationism as opposed to any having a foreign policy.

You Question Bernie? You QUESTION BERNIE!!?? Weeeee Don't NEED No stinking questioners of Bernie!!!!

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/feb/02/i-like-bernie-sanders-his-supporters-not-so-much-berniebro

I’m not #FeelingTheBern anymore. I’m on Bernie Sanders’ side policy-wise. I agree with many more of his positions than I do Hillary Clinton’s. I donated money to his campaign last year and I intend to vote for him in the Ohio primary in March. Still, the “Berniebro” phenomenon has left me feeling, well, Berned-out.

I am referring to a certain demographic of Sanders supporter – white and male – who accuses anyone who’s not #FeelingTheBern of being a member of the “Establishment.”

It’s gotten bad enough that Bernie Sanders’ campaign rapid response director had to speak up about it on Twitter. It’s gotten bad enough that, among my circle of friends (who are mostly millennials about evenly split between supporting Clinton and Sanders in the primary), the “Berniebro” phenomenon immediately comes up whenever the election comes up.

It’s not a new pattern. Remember the Obamatons back in 2008, who declared Hillary Clinton to be everything from a reincarnated Margaret Thatcher to Ronald Reagan in a pantsuit – despite the fact that Clinton had a near identical voting record to Obama’s and actually ran to his left on issues like healthcare.

The worst trait of fundamentalists is their insistence that anyone who’s not on board with their revolution is part of a coordinated conspiracy to silence and suppress that revolution. You can watch in real time as any progressive public figure who refuses to openly endorse Sanders – whether or not they also endorse Clinton – gets bombarded by wave after wave of accusations of being on the take.

IF there's one feature of Sanders supporters that cannot be denied is their overwhelming tendency to demonize anybody who disagrees with their choice of candidate. And they of course will say the author, (and myself for posting this article) are obviously deviant psychopathic, evil tools of the establishment - and enemies of humankind. I would make a rough estimate of the percentage of pro-Bernie posts which are baseless attacks on Hillary Clinton's decency, character and humanity ---- "and the same goes for any of you creeps who support her too!!"... would be the usual refrain.

HOw many times can anybody remember a pro-Bernie post that actually presented his policy proposals or plans (has he put any of these things into writing?). Yeah, that's what I thought. I remember their has been a time or two where a pro-Bernie post presented his ideas or proposals but they were damn few and far between.

Primary Turnout Means Nothing For The General Election - 538.com

http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/primary-turnout-means-nothing-for-the-general-election/

Republican turnout is up and Democratic turnout is down in the 2016 primary contests so far. That has some Republicans giddy for the fall...

~~
~~

But Democrats shouldn’t worry. Republicans shouldn’t celebrate. As others have pointed out, voter turnout is an indication of the competitiveness of a primary contest, not of what will happen in the general election. The GOP presidential primary is more competitive than the Democratic race.

Indeed, history suggests that there is no relationship between primary turnout and the general election outcome. You can see this on the most basic level by looking at raw turnout in years in which both parties had competitive primaries. There have been six of those years in the modern era: 1976, 1980, 1988, 1992, 2000 and 2008.

The President Announcing Judge Merrick Garland as his Nominee to the Supreme Court -

.. What a speech! It's another one for the history books. He sounds like an attorney making a closing argument to a courtroom jury. Unfortunately, the Republican members are in a "hanging mood" and couldn't care less about meeting their responsibilities as public servants (GOP: "Public Servants???? ....Haw-Haw-Haw-Haw!!!&quot . The GOP: the party of nihilism.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2016/03/16/remarks-president-announcing-judge-merrick-garland-his-nominee-supreme

......

At a time when our politics are so polarized, at a time when norms and customs of political rhetoric and courtesy and comity are so often treated like they’re disposable -- this is precisely the time when we should play it straight, and treat the process of appointing a Supreme Court justice with the seriousness and care it deserves. Because our Supreme Court really is unique. It’s supposed to be above politics. It has to be. And it should stay that way.

To suggest that someone as qualified and respected as Merrick Garland doesn’t even deserve a hearing, let alone an up or down vote, to join an institution as important as our Supreme Court, when two-thirds of Americans believe otherwise -- that would be unprecedented.

To suggest that someone who has served his country with honor and dignity, with a distinguished track record of delivering justice for the American people, might be treated, as one Republican leader stated, as a political “piñata” -- that can’t be right.

Tomorrow, Judge Garland will travel to the Hill to begin meeting with senators, one-on-one. I simply ask Republicans in the Senate to give him a fair hearing, and then an up or down vote. If you don’t, then it will not only be an abdication of the Senate’s constitutional duty, it will indicate a process for nominating and confirming judges that is beyond repair. It will mean everything is subject to the most partisan of politics -- everything. It will provoke an endless cycle of more tit-for-tat, and make it increasingly impossible for any President, Democrat or Republican, to carry out their constitutional function. The reputation of the Supreme Court will inevitably suffer. Faith in our justice system will inevitably suffer. Our democracy will ultimately suffer, as well.

I have fulfilled my constitutional duty. Now it’s time for the Senate to do theirs. Presidents do not stop working in the final year of their term. Neither should a senator.
