Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said Wednesday that even if he isn't the Democratic nominee, he will do everything he can to make sure a Republican is not elected in November.

"I think Hillary Clinton and I agree on this, that we will do everything we can to make sure that a Republican does not win the White House, and I will knock my brains out," he told MSNBC's Chris Jansing.

"I will work seven days a week to make sure that that does not happen if I am the nominee and if I am not the nominee. That's what I will do."

During the interview, Sanders said that "of course" his views align much more with Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton than with Republican front-runner Donald Trump.

He said he doesn't think Trump "has any judgment whatsoever."

When asked if he believes Clinton is smart, Sanders responded: "Oh, god yes, she is very smart."

Although the Vermont senator acknowledged that he's the underdog, he said he still has a "narrow path" to victory and will fight "for every vote that we can get to make that victory happen."

During a rally Wednesday, Sanders insisted that he was in the race to win it.
"Let me make it clear so there is no confusion,” Sanders said during a rally at Purdue University in Indiana. “We are in this campaign to win and become the Democratic nominee.

Hillary Clinton urged Delaware voters to support her in the Democratic presidential primary during a Monday rally in Wilmington, arguing her decades of experience working with Congress and international leaders make her best-qualified for the job.

"If you will go out and vote for me tomorrow, I will stand up and fight for you through this campaign and all the way to the White House," Clinton said as she closed out her speech, the crowd rising in a chorus of cheers.

In a show of force from the state's political establishment, Gov. Jack Markell and all three members of Delaware's Congressional delegation played up Clinton's credentials.

"There is nothing that faces our country in this dangerous, difficult and divided world that will surprise her," Sen. Chris Coons said. "This is a woman fully capable of being one of the greatest American presidents starting from her first day."

Clinton's visit comes amid a flurry of campaign activity leading up to the Delaware primary on Tuesday.

Republican Donald Trump drew thousands to the state fairgrounds in Harrington on Friday, and Clinton's challenger, Bernie Sanders, drew thousands more to the Chase Center in Wilmington on Saturday.

Clinton's Monday speech took place in the Cafe Live at the Queen, a smaller venue than those rallies. But she received a boisterous applause and cheers from the crowd, after she arrived on stage around 12:30 p.m.

Prior to that entrance, chants of "Hillary, Hillary" erupted sporadically among the roughly 700 attendees who filled the mostly standing-room hall. She received several ovations throughout her speech.

She also expressed sadness over the death of Howard High School of Technology student, Amy Inita Joyner-Francis, who died during a fight in a school restroom Thursday.

"We can't let this go on," she said, referencing violence among youth.

Supporters of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders have started to crowd the entrance of the Chase Center in Wilmington Saturday morning.

Sanders, a U.S. Senator from Vermont, is set to speak at the Riverfront later this afternoon and supporters from around the mid-Atlantic are eager to rally support ahead of Tuesday's Delaware primary.

"When I heard he was coming to Wilmington I was sitting in class and almost peed my pants I am so excited," said Alexis Gibbs, a 20-year-old student at Delaware Technical Community College. "I believe in him because he is not like others on T.V. He is not taking money from (super PACS). He is the embodiment of his campaign."

"Every candidate has their priorities. He is talking about the problems of everyday people like tuition and the cost of healthcare," Hoy said. "It is just interesting to be around people who are passionate about this process." Jason Hoy, a math teacher from Marlton, New Jersey, was grading papers in the packed Chase Center atrium early Saturday morning. He said he drove to Wilmington to support a candidate he feels is focusing on the right issues, particularly his own student loan debt

Many in the contingent of Sanders supporters packed inside the center's main lobby were young. Some are even too young to vote but wanted to be a part of the process. Gaige Lenhardt, 17 of Pike Creek, said Sanders' style resonates with him.

Sanders, Clinton announce Wilmington campaign rallies

The Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders presidential campaigns each announced Friday the candidates will be appearing in Delaware in advance of the Tuesday primary.

Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, will hold a rally at The Chase Center on the Riverfront, 815 Justin St., at 1 p.m Saturday, it was announced Friday morning.

The Clinton campaign late Friday announced she will hold a rally at the World Cafe Live at the Queen, 500 N. Market St, at 11:15 a.m. Monday.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Hirak Mukhopadhyaya, president of the University of Delaware College Democrats, said that the competitive nature of the of the national race has likely convinced the candidates to visit Delaware — a rare move for presidential contenders at this stage in the primary.

Student dies after being assaulted inside high school in Wilmington, Del.

WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) --
A 16-year-old student has died after she was assaulted by several other students inside a high school bathroom in Wilmington, Delaware.

It happened at the Howard High School of Technology in the 400 block of East 12th Street on Thursday morning.

The name of the girl, who was a sophomore, has not been released.

No charges have been announced. Two girls and several witnesses are at the Wilmington Police Department being interviewed by detectives.

The Action Cam was outside the school as medics performed CPR on the victim, who was taken on a stretcher to a waiting state police helicopter.

She was airlifted to A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, where she was pronounced dead.

Students at the school told Action News reporter Chad Pradelli that the fight was over a boy, and that the girl was fighting with another girl in a bathroom when she was jumped.

Kayla Wilson says she was in a stall when the fight broke out.

"She was fighting a girl, and then that's when all these other girls started banking her -like jumping her - and she hit her head on the sink," Wilson said.

This whole Howard thing has me reflecting... Maybe I'm speaking for myself. Maybe my generation will be too proud to admit it. But I honestly don't remember a day during my school years where I didn't have at least a tiny bit of worry that something awful or tragic was gonna happen that day. Not necessarily to me, just in general. Pretty sure that's not how it's supposed to be.
