Spider Man 'Homecoming' May Include Asian American Hero 'Silk'

Spider-Man: Homecoming is gaining more and more attention as it goes through production, helping fans get a clearer picture of how this new version of Spider-Man (and all the characters surrounding him) will be incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We just got confirmation from a casting sheet that The Shocker will be another villain in the film (alongside The Vulture and The Tinkerer), but that same call sheet had another name that could be more than just a simple supporting character; it could be another female Marvel superhero in the making.

The casting call sheet that leaked to Redditt listed actress Tiffany Espensen (Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventure) as "Cindy" in the film, but Marvel Comics fans saw that and immediately attached an association to Cindy Moon, better known by her superhero name, "Silk."

In Spider-Man lore, Cindy Moon is a girl bitten by the same radioactive spider that gives Peter Parker his Spider-Man abilities. Cindy was not able to control her abilities like Peter was, and was recruited by a man named Ezekiel (who also had spider powers) in order to train in the use of her powers while being hidden away from the world. After being discovered by Spidey, she has since returned to NYC as a superhero, looking to pick up the pieces of her life lost while in isolation. She has similar powers to Spider-Man, only with stronger "Spider-sense," organic finger tip web shooters, and a photographic memory.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING: Who's Playing Mary Jane? Zendaya Is Playing Mary Jane!

When Zendaya was cast in the upcoming Marvel Studios/Sony reboot Spider-Man: Homecoming, which will center on the new Peter Parker/Spidey that was introduced in Captain America: Civil War, there was plenty of speculation about who she'd be playing. Well, of the options that floated around, none of them were the big bopper of female characters in the Spider-Man mythos: Mary Jane Watson.

Turns out, she should've been. TheWrap is now exclusively reporting that Zendaya is playing Mary Jane Watson in the Jon Watts-directed Spidey flick.

The site claims to have two sources close to the situation, and they both claim Zendaya is the new MJ for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There's been no official announcement from Sony or Marvel Studios as of yet, but with production for Spider-Man: Homecoming in full swing, we can expect this news to be addressed shortly.

Ivanka Trump's brother-in-law voting for Clinton

Not every member of Donald Trump's extended family will be voting for the Republican nominee on Election Day.
Josh Kushner, the younger brother of Ivanka Trump's husband Jared, was described as a "lifelong Democrat" in a new Esquire profile of his older brother published Thursday.

Kaine embraces the Butter Cow

DES MOINES, Iowa—Not even a veteran politician like Tim Kaine can resist the pull of the Butter Cow.

On a campaign jaunt through the Hawkeye State Wednesday, Kaine made an impromptu stop at the Iowa State Fair, taking in the sights, smells (good and bad) and tastes that the annual agriculture exhibition has to offer.

Joined briefly by Iowa Democratic Senate candidate Patty Judge and then Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Kaine’s first stop was a sacrosanct trek to pay homage to the famous cow, a 600-pound life-size bovine frame of metal and mesh that's slathered in layers of butter.

The Democratic vice presidential nominee also stopped to pose in front of a butter mold of the Starship Enterprise, offering up one of his classic cheesy dad jokes: “This campaign has been a journey,” he said, riffing on the Star Trek opening monologue as he shook hands and took pictures with the fair’s visitors.

IN-GOV: The race is a tie.

In the governor’s race, Pence’s replacement on the ballot, Republican Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb, is running only one point ahead of Democrat John Gregg, 42 percent to 41 percent. Gregg, who lost narrowly to Pence four years ago, entered the race expecting a rematch with the governor before Trump chose a running mate.
