America’s Serial Killers – How Many?

<snip>
John Douglas, a former Chief of the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit and author of
“Mind Hunter” says, “A very conservative estimate is that there are between 35-50 active serial killers in the United States” at any given time. Often, Douglas told me, they will, “kill 2-3 victims and then have a “cooling-off” period between kills.”
<snip>
But others who study serial killers (defined as someone who kills 3 or more people) think there are many more of these demented predators out there than the FBI admits to – maybe as many as a hundred of them actively operating right now.
<snip>

The FBI knows death travels and five years ago it set up the Highway Serial Killings Initiative. The bureau reveals it has “a matrix of more than 600 victims and potential suspects in excess of 275.” Since the bodies were found off major highways top suspects are long-haul truckers who may pick up prey in one state and dump the body several states away.

I knew some of this, but the info about Highway Homicides gave me the willies.
That said, you are far more likely to be hurt or killed by someone near and dear than be a victim of stranger danger.

Parents Want School to Teach Archaic "Gay Related Immune Deficiency"

A number of religious conservative parents — both Christian and Jewish — in the infamous Anoka-Hennepin School District north of Minneapolis, have demanded that school officials purge mention of homosexuality and add instructional information about so-called ex-gay and ex-trans therapies and "GRID" (Gay Related Immune Deficiency, an archaic term that was given to AIDS but hasn't been used by the medical establishment since 1984).

According to Andy Birkey, at the Twin Cities Daily Planet, the school's “neutrality policy” (which is basically a "don't ask, don't tell" policy for the area's public schools, in which LGBT issues are not to be discussed) is under attack by students who say it creates a hostile learning environment. But the Parents Action League, who released a resolution in support of anti-LGBT policies last week, want the policy to remain in place. In addition they called for the addition of anti-gay information, such as the "success" of "ex-homosexual therapy."

Nate Silver: One reason the Reuters/Ipsos poll may be skewed:

Nate Silver (@fivethirtyeight)
1/14/12 5:20 PM
FYI: Reuters/Ipsos poll showing huge lead for Romney in SC was (i) conducted online and (ii) was registered rather than likely voters.

I don't believe these results truly reflect the GOPeas who will vote.

'Why I Hate Religion But Love Jesus' Creates Controversy On YouTube

Don't agree with all of this, but it does make you think.

I do believe that structured religions can and do get in the way of acting on teachings that they profess to believe. Why would you build huge religious buildings to the glory of God when his real glory would be in helping the poor?

Those buildings can be places to try to understand and test beliefs. Instead, many of them are places where people go to reinforce what they want to believe. An example is the people who preach it's okay to get rich without mentioning helping the downtrodden. People want to believe this because they want to assuage any guilt over their bank accounts that they don't use to help others at all.

Some people go to church to tithe and profess their faith. Beyond that, they never really personally act on these beliefs. Many of them have never seen or understood the plight of those who are poor, enslaved, or forgotten. They give their money as if that's the only action they need to take.

The poor are mentioned hundreds of times in the Bible, and yet they are treated as pariahs by many today. The candidates for office have made them scapegoats for everything.

This is my usual rant about the mooks I see in SC with their piety fluffed out like bright plumage for all to see. They wouldn't know Jesus if he bit them on the butt.

It should be 'WWJD? YNJ!' What would Jesus do? You're not Jesus!

Narcotics agent nabs Sandusky. 'Tom didn't want to do it'

Busted: Behind the Sandusky arrest

Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett made it clear to his staff that he did not want to pursue the pedophile case against former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, associates of Corbett's say. At the time, AG Corbett was running for governor of Pennsylvania.

The case finally was investigated in depth, and brought to court, only after Corbett's election as governor in November 2010. A separate investigation by an attorney general's office narcotics agent brought a renewed emphasis to the Sandusky case.
<snip>
The case, per standard procedure, was assigned to a state trooper, and a prosecutor. Nevertheless, without Corbett's approval, and without the active shepherding of the AG, the investigation went nowhere.
<snip>
Steroids?
A separate investigation involving AG office narcotics Agent Anthony Sassano in November 2010 finally broke the Corbett-imposed logjam in the Sandusky case. By late 2010, AG Tom Corbett had been elected governor of Pennsylvania. Corbett was engaged in his transition to the governor's office and was no longer was an obstacle to the Sandusky investigation.
<snip>
Following standard procedure, Agent Sassano then entered information about those involved in his narcotics investigation into the PACE cross-indexing and intelligence system. Agent Sassano got a hit on Sandusky and discovered that the former football coach was also under investigation for a pedophile complaint by Corbett's heretofore-inactive state trooper, and prosecutor.

That SOB Corbett should be put under the jail with the rest of the enablers!

Jerry Sandusky sat in president's box for Joe Paterno's 409th victory (Patriot News)

A week before his arrest on charges of child sex abuse, sources say Jerry Sandusky watched Joe Paterno notch his 409th victory from the president’s box at Beaver Stadium, sources said Wednesday.

A source close to the Penn State board of trustees told The Patriot-News that Sandusky was seen in the president’s box that day and later went to the Nitttany Lion Club.

Earlier Wednesday, former Nittany Lions linebacker Brandon Short said he had been told by two independent sources, whom he did not identify, that Sandusky was in the president’s box for the Penn State-Illinois game on Oct. 29.

The source, who requested anonymity out of fear of jeopardizing business relationships, also told The Patriot-News that Curley originally did not want to give Sandusky tickets to the game, but Sandusky’s wife, Dottie, was so insistent that he eventually relented.

Another story about who knew what, when: http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/report-sandusky-in-psu-presidents-box-2-mos-ago-29952

They are all lying, spinning, and complaining. The investigation by Louis Freeh answers to [university trustees] Ken Frazier, and Ron Tomalis, the state secretary of education. There goes that independent investigation.

They are all making this hot mess worse for PSU and themselves. It's not going away because once the trials start the story will be in the media spotlight. It will also get uglier due to the testimony.

Jerry Sandusky watched the PSU-Illinois FB game from the President's box on Oct. 29

This is as per ex-player Brandon Short on ESPN's show 'Outside The Lines.' He said that 2 sources confirmed this to him. There were several people on the show, and they were gobsmacked.

The President might not have invited him. He could have come with a BOT member or he could have walked in according to what was said.

The current President of PSU is busy spinning and complaining that this isn't a PSU story. He insists it is just a Sandusky story and problem. WRONG!

If Sandusky was in the President's box watching the game it is a real slap in the face to the victims, the University as a whole, and basically Gawd and everybody.

It boggles my mind that this would happen. If true, the NCAA has one more HUGE reason to shut down the FB program. I wish they could shut down the BOT and administrators. It is a remarkable example of lack of institutional control. That is an unforgivable sin to the NCAA, and usually brings severe penalties.

The PTB at PSU apparently don't get it, don't care or both.

Unbelievable!

Hark! What is that I hear?

Why, it's the sound of the quadrennial migration of the Right Wing Loonatics. The sound is overwhelming as they fight each other no matter how far apart they are.

Their fights are never physical because they are really teeny birdrainlets with no courage for physical contact. Their distinguishing characteristics are the enormous wings on their right side. This makes flying forward almost impossible. Instead they circle continuously around the same point. They move from one place to another as parasites who latch on to any and all animals.

They also have microscopic heads with brains of the same size. However, by some unfortunate quirk of nature they are able to make ear splitting sounds that can be heard for miles. Their mating call is odd too. It sounds like "No! No taxes! Nonononono!" repeated over and over. They are also similar to chameleons who change constantly to resemble whatever group they are in.

It is a blessing that they never remain in one place for too long. They are constantly in motion because they need to find new stores of food because they can pick any place down to the bone in nanoseconds. They are indiscriminate eaters who consume anything. Some of it will help them, and the rest will be destroyed.

They leave behind coloies of baby Right Wing Loonatics who are too young to fly. Once their Wings are large enough, they join the circling maelstrom and forget where they came from.

They will be in SC until January 21st. I am in my soundproofed apartment for the duration. I have plenty of beer and popcorn.

Jay Paterno was quoted on GMA as saying that JoePa

can't wait to tell his side of the story. Jay said everybody should wait until the trial and when everybody can speak.

He also said that he couldn't condemn Sandusky because as Americans, people are innocent until proven guilty. He continued in an aggrieved tone about the unfairness and sacrifice his father and others have had to make.

First of all, they apparently think the grand jury transcript is fiction. JoePa said he knew something of a sexual nature had happened after he talked to McQueary. He didn't tell anyone right away because he didn't want to ruin their weekends. I have read that JoePa is claiming that the transcript is wrong.

As far as Sandusky goes, he was caught on tape telling a mother that he had done something wrong to her son. Then there is what McQueary testified he saw. Regardless of all his different stories, his testimony under oath has never wavered.

I have no idea of the legal ramifications for JoePa. There may not be any, but he is morally culpable. Once he talked to McQueary he should have taken action immediately. In addition, he should have followed up to make sure something was done because of the egregious nature of the allegations. JoePa certainly never let up when a player was accused of something.

Sandusky should be in jail. In SC, there is a former coach who was given over 1 million dollars bail for 5 charges. He has gotten off lightly compared to many.

They seem to have forgotten that they are not the victims! Those kids have had to live with this for a long time, and it never goes away. The damage that was done to them cannot be fixed. It can only be moderated if they are lucky.

I suggest they all STFU! I think everybody has heard enough until the trial.

10 Questions To Ask Your Favorite Conservative

Why is it that when people hoard things, they are a scourge on society and when they hoard money, they are job creators? In fact, aren’t the people that buy things the true job creators?

Both the 10 Commandments and the Seven Deadly Sins have no mention of being gay or having abortions. Greed, though, seems to be a biggie. Why do conservatives seem to get that backwards?

At what point did getting sick become a moral failing?

In what way are people who buy and sell paper making a more significant contribution to society than teachers, nurses, firefighters, police officers, mail carriers, artists, etc.?

When did the right to unlimited profit become greater than the general welfare of the people?

Why don’t people realize that there’s no such thing as a “self made man?” Even the most successful and ethical people can thank their parents, their teachers, their siblings, their employees, their customers, the government, their contractors, etc. Without them, they would be nothing. The unethical might want to work on their apologies.

Why is physical labor less important than sitting behind a desk?

Why should people who inherit their money not pay taxes and people who earn their money be taxed at the highest rate?

At what point did we start judging people based on the size of their checkbook rather than the size of the heart?

How has being a conservative helped you?
