Los Angeles woman who beat elderly man with a brick sentenced to 15 years

Source: NBC News

LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in the beating of a 92-year-old man that was captured on video and shared widely on social media.

Thirty-year-old Laquisha Jones was sentenced Thursday following her no contest plea to elder abuse in December.

Prosecutors say Jones severely beat Rodolfo Rodriguez in the face with a brick on July 4 as the man was taking a walk. They say Rodriguez did nothing to provoke the attack.

The case wasn't prosecuted as a hate crime.

Glad she's going to the slammer. She entered a no-contest plea back in December. Too bad it was not prosecuted as a hate crime.

After all the furor over the Oscars...

My way to save time would be to end ALL the Best Song performances on air, and end any and all Production/Dance numbers.

There are good people everywhere in the US.

Case in point: Taste Project in Fort Worth.

Taste Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit established simply to feed people one community at a time. One of every six Americans faces the reality that they may not be able to provide for their next meal. There are programs in place that help; however, in Tarrant County, 36 percent of this food insecure population live above the poverty level and receive no government help.

Our mission is to feed, educate, and serve our community so they may “…taste and see the Lord is good.” Psalm 34:8.

We believe everyone should have access to healthy nutritional food. Our vision is to see our community become the solution to the challenges our community faces as it relates to hunger.

Our first project, a non-profit restaurant, focuses on healthy, quality meals made from fresh ingredients. Our menu has no prices. This is a give and take concept. We ask guests to do one of the following:

1) pay what you can afford,

2) pay what you would typically pay, or

3) pay what you would typically pay, plus a little extra.

This place is wonderful. I have eaten there, and the food was wonderful. The place is immaculate. The food is fantastic. I have an friend who works there. They treat him great.

If you live in the area, or are visiting please stop in.

Taste Community Restaurant

To advocates of high speed passenger rail service.

How do you plan to acquire the land for dedicated high speed passenger rail service?

You cannot mix high-speed passenger trains wiith freight trains on the same track, UNLESS you are running multiple main lines (minimum 4-6) as in the Northeast corridor.

High speed passenger rail requires:

Heavier rail.
Different curve geometry.
Elimination of ALL crossings, which mean over/underpasses everywhere.

Do not get me wrong, I would love to see high-speed rail in places like the Texas Triangle, and other places, but it requires all new track, with all the problems that entail.

The RRs have no incentive to upgrade. They have abandoned thousands of miles of track, because it does not fit their current model of unit trains (no switching and 2 person crews). They ran off the small businesses and towns that they used to serve. Just like airlines have abandoned smaller cities. They do not want, nor will they accept passenger trains on their track without billions in subsidies.

Are you going to eminent domain hundreds of miles of land needed for new dedicated rail? How will that work with people?

How do you plan to aquire the land, deal with all the NIMBYs, environmental and State and local regulations? What about the takings clause?

I love the idea of high speed rail for didtances under 300 miles, BUT how can we do that?

I am not engaging in hyperbole or sarcasm, I am asking a serious questions.

So when did the US adopt Napoleonic Code of Justice for American males?

Because that is where we have come.

If a man is accused of sexual impropriety, he is automatically assumed to be guilty and is so judged in the court of public opinion. His life and reputation are destroyed, no matter if a there is ever a real trial and he is found not guilty.

If he's black, no matter his age, he's automatically guilty of something and just might get shot and killed by cops, because he "resisted" or ran or something. Or he's probably a hyper-sexual predator. Or just a "thug".

We USED to be the party that believed in the presumption of innocence, but not anymore.

Benjamin Franklin said “it is better a hundred guilty persons should escape than one innocent person should suffer”, but that certainly does not apply any more.

Finally, where do men go to get their reputations and good name restored, once they have judged guilty by the mob?
