MicaelS's JournalTreat MH370 tragedy rationally (official Chinese newspaper)
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/opinion/2014-03/31/content_17390638.htmThe Chinese government is telling their citizens to calm down and start planning funerals. It is already having an affect. Last week, family member were calling Malaysian officials "murderers", this week, the family members are "thanking" the Malaysian government. And they used the phrase "social norms" twice in the sentences. That is a big deal. After all, if the Chinese could be calling the Malaysian government names this week, they might be calling the Chinese government names, and that would be unacceptable.
We should acknowledge that in the face of the tragedy of flight MH370, Malaysia did not pass the buck, and the whole of Malaysian society showed their deep sorrow and shame. Malaysian citizens, media and scholars all openly criticized the authorities for their misconduct in handling the case. Their public opinion did not claim that the incident was masterminded by an individual that does not represent Malaysia and its people and they did not retort to outside criticism and pressure. Chinese people should refrain from inciting criticism and instigating boycotts against Malaysia so as to avoid hurting the majority of people in Malaysia.
All Chinese people sympathize with the relatives of the passengers on board MH370 and share their sufferings. But we should also remember that a time of adversity is no excuse for trampling on social norms.
We can understand and tolerate those victim families' emotional catharsis as long as their behavior doesn't violate social norms.
Here in the US, CNN is basically non-stop Flight 370. Some of the things they have been saying are disgusting. Wolf Blizter has essentially come out and said the pilots did it on more than one occasion. And Ashely Banfield isn't really much better.
Toyota to pay $1.2 billion over unitended acceleration.
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/toyota-agrees-pay-1-2-billion-criminal-charges-article-1.1726602http://www.usatoday.com/videos/money/business/2014/03/19/6606731/
http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/18/us/toyota-settlement/
Toyota recalled millions of cars in 2009-10, after years of doing little beyond changing floor mats in response to complaints to federal auto safety regulators about acceleration problems in popular models.
The Toyota agreement comes with Bharara's office just starting to look into a safety issue at General Motors. The FBI, which conducted the Toyota probe, is now gathering evidence on the GM complaints.
GM has recalled 1.6 million vehicles worldwide over an ignition switch problem. GM engineers apparently knew about it years ago but the Detroit automaker did not move to recall vehicles until last month
One point two billion dollars. And it wasn't floor mats, stuck accelerators or driver error. And how many people died?
But, not one single SOB at Toyota, (or probably GM for their ignition switch flaws) will go to prison for any of this.

88 Wheels, Tires Stolen Off Cars at Galveston Dealership
http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/88-Wheels-Tires-Stolen-Off-Cars-at-Galveston-Dealership-244746421.htmlTexas City police are investigating the theft of 88 wheels, including tires, from DeMontrond Chevrolet.
The Galveston County Daily News reported Monday that some vehicles fell off the blocks and have frame damage. No damage estimate was immediately released.
Investigators believe the theft happened between Saturday night and Sunday morning when the dealership was closed. Sgt. David Fairchild says the crooks cut the locks off the gates, snipped wires to light poles and stole the wheels.
Damn, that's a lot of wheels and tires. Took a while, time and space to haul them off. Surely someone saw something?
Please explain Heroin's allure to me.
Because I don't understand. I'm a 56 old white male. I smoked cannabis about half a dozen times about 30 years ago, and all it did was make me hungry and sleepy. So I gave it up. I have never used tobacco. The only alcohol I drink are frozen mixed drinks, and I can't remember the last time I had one. I don't like getting drunk or high because I do not like to be out of control of my senses. I even quit taking some OTC antihistamines because they make me high. So I do not understand the allure of something that has shown repeatedly to be so deadly to so many people. And why are so many creative people seemingly drawn to use Heroin?
City Agrees to Stop-Frisk Reforms as Mayor Seeks to Drop Appeal
Source: NBC 4 New York
Lawyers for the plaintiffs in New York city's stop-and-frisk court cases say the city and the plaintiffs have reached an agreement for a monitor to oversee reforms of the police tactic.
Lawyers for the Center for Constitutional Rights said Thursday that the deal calls for the reforms to take place under a scenario set down by a federal judge last year.
They say the deal calls for a monitor to serve a three-year term. The monitor will oversee a process in which those communities most affected by the stop-and-frisk tactics will provide input into reforms.
The announcement came shortly after the administration of Mayor de Blasio filed court papers seeking to drop and appeal of the judge's findings.

This is excellent news. Kudos to Mayor de Blasio.

Russian ICBM warheads hit targets on test range
Thats why this video is particularly interesting.
It shows Russian ICBM warheads hit their targets on Kura Test range, in northern Kamchatka Krai in the Russian Far East.
Obviously, if real, the sight of warheads released by the MIRV (Multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle) coming your way might be the last thing you ever see.

So what if Castro had JFK shot?
I know the MIC is the favorite whipping boy at DU for the murder of JFK, but what is they werent the ones who were responsible?
Given the fact that JFK and RFK were partly responsible for the plots to assassinate Castro, what if he found out and decided to return the favor so to speak.
If THAT particular truth had come out at the time, then it most certainly would have meant WWIII as Johnson quoted as saying. The American people would have demanded all the Castros be hanged or shot or something. We would have invaded, the Soviets would have been forced to respond, and WWII would have been underway.
It that is the truth behind the murder of JFK, then yes it is better that the truth be suppressed until EVERYONE concerned is dead. That means every single one of the Castros. Because if that came out, and one of them was still alive the hawks would drive us into the invasion of Cuba they all wanted 50 years ago.
I knew some people love Castro, the Cuban Revolution and the Cuban Socialist Experiment. But just imagine.....
When I was working on the railroad (no joke)...
We ran over a man laying between the rails, in a curve, near a street crossing. It was about 5am, light fog, the area was poorly lit, he was African- American and wearing all dark clothing and shoes. Truly the worst of all possible scenarios.
The train fully passed over him. Then it was my responsibility as conductor to go back and check on him. This was when we still had cabooses. He was dead of course. Considering what happened his body wasn't several injured. We were out of radio range, so I walked down the street to find a house with a porch light (this was before cell phones). It was the house of a preacher. I called the local police, they showed up, took our statements. The Justice of the Peace pronounced him dead, and they took him away in a hearse.
We were out of time, so they brought out a relief crew, and took us home in a crew van. We didn't have to testify in court, and I never heard the cause of death. In fact I never heard anything ever again.
Some crews I knew hit cars loaded with people and killed entire families, or even worse, carloads of teenagers from several families.
Those crews needed and got counseling. Then they had to undergo weeks testifying at trail.
The moral is when people try to beat a train, they're dancing with death, and most times they lose.
