Anyone here wear rimless prescription eyeglasses?

I'm talking the kind with lenses that are drilled for the mounts. I am thinking of switching from half-rim to rimless and would like some input from those who wear them. Especially durability-wise.

These are the ones I am thinking of buying from Zenni Optical. I have been buying from them for years and am well pleased with their products. And I like Titanium for their durability and light weight.

And I will be using Transitions lenses.

Officials Assure Transparency in Sandra Bland Jail Death Investigation

Source: NBCDFW.com

A group of Texas and Waller County officials met with authorities Tuesday about the death of 28-year-old Sandra Bland while in the Waller County Jail on the same day dashcam video of her arrest was released.

State Senator Royce West emphasized that the investigation into Bland's death would be transparent and thorough at a news conference at Prairie View A&M University after meeting with authorities. Just last week, West asked the Texas Department of Public Safety to release any video related to the case.

"We will be patient to allow the process to work itself out – but it will be transparent," West said. "We're going to be watching every step of the way to make sure that the job will be done correctly."

Authorities have said Bland committed suicide by hanging herself in her cell days after she was arrested, but her family disputes the account.

Blue Bell to Begin Trial Ice Cream Production (Not For Sale)

http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Blue-Bell-to-Begin-Trial-Production-Run-This-Month-312629291.html

Blue Bell Creameries plans to begin a trial run of ice cream production "in the next several weeks" at its Alabama plant.

The ice cream produced in the trial run will not be sold to consumers.

The popular Texas-based company issued a nationwide recall of all its products April 20 due to concerns of listeria contamination at its plants in Brenham, Texas, Sylacauga and Broken Arrow, Okla.

No further information has been released from Blue Bell on when full production might resume.

More at link.

I sure hope they have their problems fixed. Blue Bell is the only one making a decent straight Coffee Ice Cream (not Mocha or some other term, or mixed with something else.) And I am not paying $5 for a pint of Häagen-Dazs Coffee Ice Cream.

State Department Orders Tarrant County to Stop Issuing Passports

http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/State-Department-Orders-Tarrant-County-to-Stop-Issuing-Passports-312266481.html

In a highly unusual move, the U.S. State Department has ordered Tarrant County to indefinitely stop issuing passports.

The order comes amid a federal investigation into the use of fraudulent documents to obtain passports in Tarrant County and whether clerks followed proper procedures, according to a person familiar with the case.

Tarrant County District Clerk Tom Wilder said the State Department sent an email on June 25 ordering him to immediately close the county’s passport offices.

The email, which was followed by a formal letter, did not specify why, he said.

Wow, something is certainly rotten in Tarrant County for this to occur.

One Armed Store Owner vs. Three Robbers (one armed) in Fort Worth.

http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Deadly-Shooting-at-Fort-Worth-Grocery-Store-307956631.html

Second link has video.

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – An attempted robbery at a Fort Worth grocery store ended in one of the alleged robbers shot to death by the owner.

Police say three men walked into the store with a shotgun. One suspect demanded money. The second one had the shotgun and the third was standing next to the man with the weapon.

Police say the store owner gave his wallet to the first suspect then pulled out a gun and shot the suspect holding a gun. He died at the scene.

The two who were not hit ran off.

So one robber is holding a shotgun on the owner, the owner hands over his wallet, THEN pulls his gun and shoots the robber. That takes a great deal of courage, and situational self-awareness that many people would not have.

But considering we have had two murders of store clerks in the DFW area, one the mother of two:

And the other one where the clerk of a Subway store gave them the money, and then got killed,

Taking a chance of responding with deadly force might be best choice.

Farthest journey by hoverboard - Guinness World Records

http://www.cnet.com/news/this-guys-homemade-hoverboard-flight-sets-a-guinness-world-record

The Guinness organization says Canadian inventor Catalin Alexandru Duru has broken the world record for longest hoverboard flight with a flight of 275.9 meters (905 feet and 2 inches) -- and that was out over a lake.

Guinness World Records posted a video of the flight to the organization's YouTube page on Friday saying it was achieved on August 25, 2014. In the clip, you can see Catalin's quadcopterlike hoverboard flying about 16 feet off the ground as he travels across the water on Quebec's Lake Ouareau. The footage is actually pretty spectacular.

According to Guinness World Records, it took Duru a year to build the board, and he says it can be used "anywhere" and can fly at "scary heights." By going for the record, Duru wanted to "showcase that a stable flight can be achieved on a hoverboard and a human could stand and control with their feet."

Guinness World Records confirmed the authenticity of the footage, and the record, by email. Check out this record-breaking flight for yourself in the video above, then get ready for a future where drones are delivering our packages and we're all traveling about town on our hoverboards. Marty McFly would definitely approve.
