Netflix Admits To Throttling Its Own Streams On AT&T, Verizon Wireless Because Data Caps
The reasoning? If you hit your data cap and get socked with overage fees you won’t be watching any more Netflix this month — and you might cut back in future months, too. Therefore, in the interest of keeping customers watching and subscribing, they throttled the streams.
But wait: Netflix admitted to doing it for Verizon and AT&T customers, but not for T-Mobile or Sprint. Why not? Because “historically those two companies have had more consumer-friendly policies,” Netflix told the WSJ. Specifically, they mean the practice of throttling down data instead of charging overage fees. Watching too much Netflix in one week might mean you can’t for the next three weeks, but it won’t make you broke. And consumers are very sensitive to hits in the wallet region.

AT&T Follows Comcast, Will Charge $30 More to Avoid Usage Caps
Users who exceed these caps in any given month will automatically have to pay for 50 GB of additional data for $10 each. Users who want to avoid the cap will now need to pay $30 a month more moving forward. That is unless you're also a DirecTV or AT&T U-Verse TV customer, in which case AT&T is waiving the $30 fee.
That last bit is a fairly transparent ploy to address a spike in cord cutting t AT&T -- by forcing customers into signing up for television services they may not actually want if they want to avoid usage restrictions. Whether using arbitrary caps to force users to sign up for TV technically violates net neutrality (either the FCC's rules or the concept in general) is something that's likely to be hotly debated.

I just escaped a HUGE eye care ripoff. ( UPDATE: glasses came and are perfect)
The time has come that I need eyeglasses to see the computer clearly enough.
Been getting by without them, and have using orange colored sunglasses to block the blue light from the puter and the e-book at night, which has been having a very positive effect on the quality of my sleep and stopping watery itchy eyes.
Screen words are still a bit blurry tho.
So,time to get the prescription glasses, and the eye doc firmly declared since they were for the computer, I HAD to have the special blue light coating.
ok...quick vision check, then I am marched over to the nice young thang sitting at the glasses fitting table.
But, I have played this game before, so I asked her for the bill for just the exam and that I would have to wait to get enough money for the glasses and could I please have a copy of the prescription for my files.
Exam only bill came to $33.00.
The special coated lenses came to 400.00!
Without even counting the frames.
Can I just have the eyeglasses with out the bluelight coating?
NO, she said.

Now this is the ONLY eye doc in town, and they are part of a chain which is the only one in any of the nearby towns.
Got home, immediately called the Canadian eyewear company that I had bought my last prescription from in November,
( single lens prescription, frames, free magnetic sunglasses, hard clamshell case, and 100% guarantee for a year) for $49.00, no tax.
I could have bought more expensive frames, but the ones I got are of excellent quality also.
Had to bargain a bit because of the special blue light preventive coating, at first they asked 200.00, then 150.00
but I know a secret.
I know that making lenses for glasses is done in just a few places in the country, and that it costs under $12.00 or so to make them, and the rest is profit. ( Hat Tip to Consumerist.com)
and I know that there is negotiation room with online eyewear places. ( Mr. Dixie has used them for years)
Bottom line......frames, glasses, coating, $83.00, no tax, will be here within 10 days of last Wed.
So the shooting at the WH Visitor center "co-incided" with a real shooting.....interesting.
Gee...how often have we heard that before...planned drills taking place and then similar incidents at same time.
