David Simon is filming a new series!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Creator of The Wire and Treme and Homicide Life On the Street is filming a new series called

Show Me a Hero.

Plot Summary:
Mayor Nick Wasicsko took office in 1987 during Yonkers' worst crisis when federal courts ordered public housing built in the white, middle class side of town, dividing the city in a bitter battle fueled by fear, racism, murder and politics.

Amid swirl of debate over Confederate symbols, a look at Union Civil war monuments

The Sculptor Who Brought Dead Civil War Heroes to Life

Shortly after the Civil War, Memorial Day was established to remember the Union dead.

The cemeteries of those killed at Antietam, Cold Harbor, Gettysburg, and other hallowed grounds are evocative of the great conflict, but so are the statues of Civil War heroes created in the late 19th century by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, considered by many the greatest American sculptor.

These huge works in bronze -- of Lincoln, Sherman, Farragut, Logan, and the war's first black regiment and its colonel -- occupy prominent public spaces on the Boston Common, New York's Central and Madison Parks, and Chicago's Grant and Lincoln Parks.

Augustus Saint-Gaudens' his first great public commission in 1877, was a huge statute of Admiral David Farragut,
commander of the Union fleet at the battle of Mobile Bay and famed for exclaiming , while lashed to the mast so he could see
and command his ships, "Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead!"

and
While 150 years have passed since the Confederate bombardment of Fort Sumter in the waters off Charleston, South Carolina, sparked the Civil War, many of the Union's leading generals can still be seen walking or riding the streets of Washington, D.C. A surprising number of bronze and stone memorials to American military heroes can be found along Massachusetts Avenue, NW, ensconced among the foreign embassies, chanceries and ambassadorial residences of Embassy Row.

Many of the top Union brass, alas, are located elsewhere: Their commander in chief, Abraham Lincoln, is honored elsewhere throughout the city, most notably at the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall. Union Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, in charge of overall command of the Union Army and later elected president, has a place of honor in front of the U.S. Capitol in the largest sculptural formation dedicated to any American war hero. President James Garfield, a major general in the Civil War who was later elected president and assassinated in the first year of his term in 1881, has a monument nearby. William Tecumseh Sherman's equestrian statue, honoring the famed architect of the Union Army's scorched-earth "March to the Sea" campaign in Savannah, Georgia, lies just south of the U.S. Treasury Department building near the White House's Ellipse green space

5 drones delayed 5 air-units from responding to North Fire for 20 minutes,

Drones forced the landing of planes deployed to fight the so-called North Fire that burned cars and homes along the 15 Freeway Friday, delaying response to the frightening blaze, officials said.

All air units not only pulled back from the fire because of the drones, but all five were forced to touch back down at the airport in San Bernardino after jettisoning their loads, John Miller of the U.S. Forest Service said.

There were plenty of very low altitude overhead pics of the cars on fire on the freeway, I assume those were news drones.
The tanker planes were trying to get to the scene to keep the fire away from the trapped motorists.

So far no news of any fatalities from that incident.

Dead So. Korean spy left note: country is wiretapping citizen's conversations

SEOUL: A South Korean government spy was found dead Saturday in an apparent suicide alongside a note that seemed to comment on the recent revelation that the spy agency had acquired hacking programs capable of intercepting communications on cellphones and computers, police said.

A police official in Yongin city, just south of Seoul, said the 46-year-old National Intelligence Service agent was found dead in his car, but would not reveal the agent's name or details about the note, saying his family requested that the information not be made public. The official spoke on condition of anonymity, citing office rules.

The NIS said Tuesday that it had purchased the hacking programs in 2012 from an Italian company, Hacking Team, but that it used them only to monitor agents from rival North Korea and for research purposes. The story emerged earlier this month when a searchable library of a massive email trove stolen from Hacking Team, released by WikiLeaks, showed that South Korean entities were among those dealing with the firm.

The revelation is sensitive because the NIS has a history of illegally tapping South Koreans' private conversations.http://www.dailystar.com.lb/News/World/2015/Jul-18/307254-dead-s-korean-agent-leaves-note-hinting-at-hacking-scandal.ashx?utm_content=buffer5eb2e&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

I think I found a way to get lower prices on Amazon.

2 days ago I signed up on Camelcamelcamel.com ( I know, weird name)
and filled out the lower than advertised prices I wanted on some items in my Amazon "save" list.

And today was notified of a price drop for a pair of shoes that is slightly below MY desired price, and 5.00 below the original listed price.

Now, we know that consumer spending is dropping like a rock
and we know that Amazon is doing a lot of things to increase purchases
and that camel x 3 is linked to Amazon prices
and that Amazon shows different prices for the same items depending on your past shopping history with them.

but...still....I need the shoes, they are an attractive price...

Going to watch the camel site and see how well it pays off.

Halfway thru Harper Lee's new book ( no spoilers)

I see her in a much different light now.

This book could not have been released at a better time in light of recent events....the kid killer, the issue with the flag, etc.

Also a good read, very absorbing.

I hope all the gossip type hype will disappear and the book can discussed in terms of what it is about.
I totally get why it could not have been published in 1956-1960.

Anyone else reading it?
