A black Labrador retriever was sworn in to the Cook County, Ill., state attorney’s office Tuesday as its first canine employee.

Two-year-old Hatty was brought in to help assist and provide support to young children who have been victims of sexual assault as they testify in court, according to WGN-9.

“She will provide a calming presence in court to our absolute most vulnerable victims,” Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx said during Hatty’s swearing-in ceremony.

The newest Chicago child's advocate was sworn in as she stood on her hind legs and placed a paw across a law book as an oath was given by Foxx.

For decades in Detroit, Halloween eve was synonymous with fire.

Photographers from around the globe flocked to the city to witness what became known as Devil’s Night, the notorious tradition of setting fire to houses, buildings, cars and dumpsters.

Between 1979 and 2010, more than 100 fires broke out each year. The worst year was 1984, when firefighters responded to more than 800 blazes that covered the entire city in an eery, smoky haze on Halloween morning.

Over the past nine years, the fires steadily declined.

For the second year in a row, Devil’s Night was nothing more than an average night for firefighters on Wednesday. Only seven fires broke out, and some were accidental, Detroit Deputy Commissioner Dave Fornell tells Metro Times.

“There is going to be a new generation of kids who remember Halloween as dressing up and getting candy,” Fornell says. “The city is changing.”

On Halloween evening, firefighters will be handing out candy at fire houses.

New York (CNN Business)The executive overseeing Facebook's recently-unveiled news section appeared to defend the company's controversial decision to include Breitbart, a far-right website known for misinformation, as one of its sources.

Campbell Brown, the head of global news partnerships at Facebook, wrote in a blog post on Wednesday that she believed when "building out a destination for news on Facebook" content "from ideological publishers on both the left and right" should be included.

Facebook unveiled its news section, which has been in the works for months, last Friday. When Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg first announced in April the company was creating a section for news, he said it would be devoted to curating "high quality" information from "trustworthy" sources.

But Facebook said on Friday that the news section would include Breitbart.

In her Wednesday post, Brown did not identify Breitbart by name, but its inclusion in the news tab marketed as a place for "high quality" information from "trustworthy" sources has sparked uproar.

Breitbart, previously headed by former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, has published incendiary commentary.

The website also has a long history of publishing brazenly misleading stories about Democrats and critics of President Trump.

Brown, however, suggested that despite such a history, Breitbart has met Facebook's "integrity standards for misinformation."

Trump praised House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and his joint fundraising committee, Take Back the House. “My Kevin is always on my side,” he said, and talked about him becoming speaker one day.

The president reflected on the shooting of House Minority Whip Steve Scalise a few years ago and remarked how tough the Louisiana Republican is – and Trump quipped he wouldn’t recommend getting shot as a weight loss plan. Trump also said Scalise’s wife “cried her eyes out when I met her at the hospital that fateful day … I mean not many wives would react that way to tragedy, I know mine wouldn't.”

The spotlight shifted to Rep. John Joyce’s (Pa.) family for a bit, with Trump asking: “should we get your handsome son to run for your seat? He's quite the handsome man. Stand up son,” he said, before adding that Joyce’s wife is a “looker” too.

Trump praised Rep. Andy Barr (Ky.) for beating Democrat Amy McGrath last year, but then took a little credit for himself: “Well technically I did,” Trump said. “So do I have to beat her twice?” McGrath is now running against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.).

Republican pollster Frank Luntz got teased by Trump at one point. “You used to be against me, but now you are on my side,” Trump said. “Not so nice before, but now I have to say I like you and I like your work.”

Rep. Patrick McHenry (N.C.) was dubbed by Trump to have “the best name" in politics. “If I had that name, I would have been president 10 years ago," Trump said. The worst name in politics? Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), he added.
