Chanterelle mushrooms!!!!

A woman is is friends with a former client saw me at the library a few months back and asked if she could come out and hunt for chanterelle mushrooms. I said, "Sure! If you show what they look like."

She hasn't been able to make it out to the farm until today. Since it is late in the season for this area and a little drier than it was earlier this year we didn't find many, but we found a few.

She gave me four large ones to try out. I have a sockeye salmon fillet for dinner so I'm going to saute the salmon and the chanterelles with some thyme and garlic in butter and olive oil with a little white wine to deglaze the pan. (the recipe I found calls for sliced shallots but I didn't know I would need those when I was at the store buying the salmon. I'll serve that with some Konriko Pecan Rice and some mixed vegetables.

Hopefully now that I know what the chanterelles look like and where to find them I can have them more in the future. The nice lady who showed me where to look and what to look for suggested freezing them (after boiling them) until there are enough for a meal. The four she gave me today are plenty for a sauce for the salmon!

One of the biggest regrets in my life

I know I will probably live longer than Dolt45 and one of my biggest regrets is that Hunter S. Thompson will not be around to write his obituary. He would probably out do the one he wrote for Richard Nixon.

He Was a Crook
A scathing obituary of Richard Nixon, originally published in Rolling Stone on June 16, 1994
Hunter S. Thompson July 1994 Issue

MEMO FROM THE NATIONAL AFFAIRS DESK

DATE: MAY 1, 1994
FROM: DR. HUNTER S. THOMPSON
SUBJECT: THE DEATH OF RICHARD NIXON: NOTES ON THE PASSING OF AN AMERICAN MONSTER.... HE WAS A LIAR AND A QUITTER, AND HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN BURIED AT SEA.... BUT HE WAS, AFTER ALL, THE PRESIDENT.

Richard Nixon is gone now, and I am poorer for it. He was the real thing -- a political monster straight out of Grendel and a very dangerous enemy. He could shake your hand and stab you in the back at the same time. He lied to his friends and betrayed the trust of his family. Not even Gerald Ford, the unhappy ex-president who pardoned Nixon and kept him out of prison, was immune to the evil fallout. Ford, who believes strongly in Heaven and Hell, has told more than one of his celebrity golf partners that "I know I will go to hell, because I pardoned Richard Nixon."

I have had my own bloody relationship with Nixon for many years, but I am not worried about it landing me in hell with him. I have already been there with that bastard, and I am a better person for it. Nixon had the unique ability to make his enemies seem honorable, and we developed a keen sense of fraternity. Some of my best friends have hated Nixon all their lives. My mother hates Nixon, my son hates Nixon, I hate Nixon, and this hatred has brought us together.

<SNIP>

It was Richard Nixon who got me into politics, and now that he's gone, I feel lonely. He was a giant in his way. As long as Nixon was politically alive -- and he was, all the way to the end -- we could always be sure of finding the enemy on the Low Road. There was no need to look anywhere else for the evil bastard. He had the fighting instincts of a badger trapped by hounds. The badger will roll over on its back and emit a smell of death, which confuses the dogs and lures them in for the traditional ripping and tearing action. But it is usually the badger who does the ripping and tearing. It is a beast that fights best on its back: rolling under the throat of the enemy and seizing it by the head with all four claws.

That was Nixon's style -- and if you forgot, he would kill you as a lesson to the others. Badgers don't fight fair, bubba. That's why God made dachshunds.

OMG - now I will have to boycott The Onion!

They use sweatshops to make their pages!

The page you were seeking burned down.

The Cambodian sweatshop where every letter of The Onion is hand-stitched onto the internet recently burned to the ground, claiming the lives of hundreds of underage laborers and webpages. The URL you were looking for was tragically among those lost.

Please return to The Onion homepage, search for a new article below, or call our Recovery Fund toll-free at 1-888-989-7797 to provide the village’s surviving minors with the training and materials they need to rebuild the beloved webpages that perished.

NOTE - This is their 404 page which shows up when an Onion URL points to a non-existent page.

Help Florida Sea Turtles!

Sea Turtles Need Your Help!

Please help us protect the baby turtles! Every day at sunrise between June and October, our team patrols 26 miles of beach in Pinellas County looking for new sea turtle nests. We track down and mark the nests in order to give the eggs the best chance of hatching. We expect to have over 300 nests this season, and each nest can have over 100 eggs each!

Recently, we have lost funding, but have not given up! We will continue to patrol the beach and we need your help! Any denomination helps protect hundreds of baby turtles.

Donations go towards buying supplies for signage, stakes, mallets, & flagging tape (to rope off nests), and four wheel drive vehicles.

We appreciate your support in anything you can afford!

Man's New American Citizenship "Welcome Packet" Still Includes A Letter From President Obama

The Trump administration has built a reputation of stupidity and self incrimination.

You'd think that the White House would have changed its own records to reflect the current President, but according to Twitter user Aisha Sultan, that is most definitely not the case.

My British-born husband takes his oath of citizenship today. In the packet for new Americans, the welcome letter from POTUS is from Obama. 😂

Will Consuegra Esq.? @Will_Consuegra
Replying to @AishaS

Maybe he still is President and Ashton Kutcher is about to jump out and punk us all.

Most Hated Railway Puts 15-Year-Old In Charge Of Their Twitter Account, And Things Escalate Quickly

Most Hated Railway Puts 15-Year-Old In Charge Of Their Twitter Account, And Things Escalate Quickly

By James Gould-Bourn

Beleaguered UK railway company Southern Rail isn't exactly used to good press these days. Industrial disputes, reduced services, and late-running trains have seen public anger at the rail firm grow exponentially over the last year, but all of that seems to have been temporarily forgotten thanks to an unlikely savior in the form of a 15-year-old student called Eddie.

Southern Rail have recently put the teenager, who's currently on work experience at the firm, in charge of the company's Twitter account, and it seems like people can't get enough of his cheery charm. He's even spawned a hashtag - #askeddie - thanks to his willingness to answer all sorts of weird and wonderful questions that the public have been throwing at him. Putting Eddie in charge has been one of the most popular decisions the rail company has made in quite awhile. Let's just hope they offer him a job!

What's the biggest animal you could single-handedly cling-film to a lamp post?

Southern
Probably a sloth. I can't picture them running away.

MSNBCs Katy Tur Gives Play-by-Play Commentary of Trump-Macron Handshake

‘President Trump, famous for the Art of the Deal and really the art of the handshake’
Jul 14, 2017

RUSH EXCERPT:

TUR: "And before we head to the break, there's something making the rounds today, and we just could not resist it. President Trump, famous for the Art of the Deal and really the art of the handshake, you may have seen some of his best greetings with world leaders, including this famous white knuckle handshake when he and French president Emmanuel macron first met. This is one for the highlight reel. You will see him going in, reechk first for the handshake. They're headaching. It's a Normal handshake. They are not letting go. Donald Trump patting on the top, still shaking. Macron is off balance, he's off his feet. A pat on the back. They are still shaking, folks. They're wrestling, they're holding. Who is going to come hout? Is somebody going to break this shake? Oh, the French first lady is in for it. There is a three way handshake going on right now. The world's first three way handshake. Will it be a four way handshake? Is Melania getting in? They've got an arm. Four way handshake. But macron and trump have let go of each other. Is this the end? There's a pat on the shoulder. Are we done with this? No, we are not done with this. There is one more handshake."
