santroy79 - That name stands out

This post was hidden by jury decision - and it's in his journal:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025876373

The FACTS, VERY CLEARLY, show that Darren Wilson committed no crime and only shot Michael Brown in self defense yet people are protesting over what? We need to pick our battles and this is a losing battle. Not any reasonable person would ever find Wilson guilty.

On Friday november 28th he dredged up video that had been circulating since August regarding the Michael Brown case -and was already posted at DU. He then tried to out 'liberal' MrScorpio - not gonna do it!

Thank god for SissyK locking this Barkley post in LBN -

My comments got in before the lock!

Posting from a right wing website - on immigration - plays dumb . . .

Two Thumbs Down on this one - from THAT one:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=4255379
From the OP on that thread . . . that he gives two thumbs down -
If you support the idea of White America, you support those crimes. And on behalf of myself and my part-Shawnee spouse (there, friends, is an example of spiritual awesomeness), f*** anybody and everybody who is in favor of White Supremacy, or any other skin-color-based horses*** like that. "

The heellllllllllllllllllllll? How do you give THAT two thumbs down? Just sayin'.

Another anti immigrant post -
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=729169
The OP is regarding this: Deportation program targets felons but nets those without criminal records

Is this a joke?

U have to admit its a funny way to make a head line.

The fact they are here illegally means they are breaking the law and are criminals.

Hence should be deported.

However - alp came back and respectfully set him straight and he went away.

Trying to psyche out a solid liberal/progressive who SEES the truth about the demographics in this country:

Here's the the thread OP -

Black Children as Young as Kindergarteners Are Getting Hand-Cuffed and Arrested Across the US: [View all]

http://www.alternet.org/civil-liberties/black-children-young-kindergarteners-are-getting-hand-cuffed-and-arrested-across-us

Americans should take a long look in the mirror before criticizing other nations for human rights abuses. The law enforcement system in the United States ranks among the worst in the world in the cruel treatment meted out to its citizens. Even children in this country are not safe if they are black and unlucky enough to interact with the police. Of all the various ethnic and national groups in the United States, only black people have to worry that their child may be pushed through a glass window by officers of the law.

A recent study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology demonstrated what black people have always known. Black children are dehumanized to such an extent that they aren’t perceived as children at all. They are assumed to be older, less innocent and inherently guilty of some wrong doing. Study co-author Matthew Jackson said, “With the average age overestimation for black boys exceeding four-and-a-half years, in some cases, black children may be viewed as adults when they are just 13 years old.” Two recent cases involving the New York City police department show the truth of these words and the perils black people face even in childhood.

Black girls are also at risk of police brutality, as a 15 year-old and a 16 year-old discovered in Brooklyn, New York on March 27, 2014. An altercation between police and a group of teens resulted in one of the unidentified girls being thrown to the ground and another being pushed through a window. There is video evidence of one of the girls with a very deep cut on her face. According to witnesses, the police were not content to push her through the glass and arrest her. They also delayed in providing her with needed medical attention.

“Javier Payne was already under arrest and handcuffed when a police officer shoved him through a store window.”

In the Bronx, New York on May 17, 2014, a 14 year-old boy was also pushed through a window by police and came close to death. As first reported by the Juvenile Justice Information Exchange, Javier Payne was already under arrest and handcuffed when a police officer shoved him through a store window too. The police added insult to his injuries when they did not notify EMS of a pediatric emergency, instead calling in the case as if Payne were a drunken derelict. When paramedics finally arrived on the scene they pleaded for Payne to be uncuffed so that they might provide appropriate treatment.

3. it has less to do with them being black

and more to do with them being from poor neighborhoods. Poor white & Spanish getting treated like crap also. Its just that a higher population of blacks come from these neighborhoods.

and lets not forget a lot of these kids come from awful families and are not raised correctly and are problem youths

Okay - that's all I'm posting. This goes in my journal. If Admin wants to Admin up and take care of the poster with more than 100 posts - they will.

But it's pretty clear - that DU - the Democratic Underground - which is supposed to draw from some key constituencies - has an interloper who has not one fuck to give about any of us. There are some interesting responsings to threads in HOF/Feminists etc. etc. too - but for example - redqueen was the OP of one. It's bad enough she's gone - I don't want to dredge that up when she's not here to put some well deserved butt hurt on someone.

11. A school served stereotypes in a "Black History Month" meal.

Ahem -

11. A school served stereotypes in a "Black History Month" meal.
Source: AP

It's a common racial stereotype: Black people love fried chicken and watermelon. In February, a California high school played right into the stereotype, announcing a Black History Month-themed menu that included both items, along with a hearty side of cornbread. Administrators for the school eventually apologized, but the damage was already done. In fact, according to government data, black people actually don't care that much for watermelon.

Fried chicken and watermelon aren't racist foods in themselves. But as Arit John wrote for the Atlantic, "The problem stems from the way fried chicken is associated with black people, and the historical baggage that comes with it. The same way blackface recalls minstrel shows, the 'black people love fried chicken' image recalls negative portrayals of black people."

Ahem - a School Served a 'common racial stereotype'.

Did we discuss that at DU?

I know we did buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut. This is one for the journal!

Because uh - well - I'm sure some non third wayers don't see how they belittle those not like them. . . .

Quote: And in a marked departure from other prominent black leaders who have questioned tactics used by officers and, in some cases, accused officers of racial profiling and outright racism, Barkley supported police officers, especially those who work in black neighborhoods.

I kind of 'knew' his name - but I couldn't tell you on sight what he does for a living and I wouldn't recognize him on the street. He's not really a black leader . . .

Like he's not someone who has the credentials of a Coates or a Cory Booker or a Harold Ford or a Melissa HP, etc. etc.

And he's certainly not as well spoken or articulate as Chris Rock . . . for example.

Don't forget Charle's DUI Arrest - I give bravenak to credit to reminding us of this one:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025895112#post6
At the DU link bravenak provided us with this . . .
http://deadspin.com/5121873/charles-barkley-i-was-gonna-drive-around-the-corner-and-get-a-blow-job-

According to the officer who wrote the report, "He told me that he ran the stop sign because he was in a hurry to pick up the girl I saw get in the passenger seat."

The officer continues: "He asked me to admit that she was 'hot.' He asked me, 'You want the truth?' When I told him I did he said, 'I was gonna drive around the corner and get a b**w job. He then explained that she had given him a 'b**w job' one week earlier and said it was the best one he had ever had in his life."

The report says when Barkley was taken to the station, he told one of the employees, "I'll tattoo my name on your ass" if he helped "get him out of the DUI." According to the report, "He laughed and then quickly corrected himself and said, 'I'll tattoo your name on my ass' and then laughed again."

The report also says officers "found a handgun in the vehicle" which was immediately impounded. The report doesn't say if the handgun was legal or not, and the only thing that we know for sure was loaded...

Excuse while I have a Sister Sarah Alaskastan moment -
Charles Barkley says something

and I respond . . .

In what regard Charlie?

Eh? The Republicans will vote for him so that's good for his career. They always ignore that kind of skeevy behavior.

Leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi critically wounded

Putting that in my subject line because I want to remember his name for a long time.

Let me see if I can find it anywhere on Fox.

Just kidding - they won't report on it.

I had an interesting conversation

Back and forth last week - different topic entirely - but my comments here also apply to this -

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=908957

Atlanta is interesting - I know too many people (black folks, well educated, professional) that have moved down there the past 10/12 years from the Great Lakes area . My uncle also pulled up shop from Birmingham in the late 80s and moved himself and his business to Atlanta because Birmingham was just still too anti black people at that time.

So basically you've had a large influx of affluent, well educated blacks into the Atlanta area - and I wonder what the crime rate is of Atlanta vs that of Detroit?

I just find Atlanta an odd choice for many reasons. It's just one of those places that even I considered moving to for better financial and social opportunities because it does have a bit of a reputation for being the black elite mecca.

I think that has a lot to do with it. The last time I was in Atlanta it was very difficult to hear a Southern Accent.

A lot of hard flat A's and NYC accents.

And the thing is - the 'elite' black folks? We vote. Often against our own economic interests but for social justice and equality.

I think things are looking up in Georgia.

Aside - I have a few folks I went to high school with down in the Fulton County/Atlanta area now. One returned after his MBA at Harvard and working on Wall Street. Now he's doing Venture Capital in his own boutique firm while attending theology school. . . and he's heavily invested in Carter campaign - money, time, canvassing, resources. If you ask him - Carter IS the new Governor and after that - it's just more of a chipping away to a large liberal 'center' in the state.

ETA from the article -

But this factor doesn’t fully explain the low estimated share of the black vote.

A few possibilities might explain the rest of the difference. One of those is a technique known as “trimming weights” — in which pollsters don’t weight underrepresented groups up to their targets because it would require individual respondents to be weighted too heavily.

Pollsters often choose to trim weights if a single respondent starts getting weighted more than a few times over. Often, this involves undersampled demographic groups that lean Democratic, like young and nonwhite voters. As a result, many surveys fall a bit short of their targets for nonwhite voters; it was one of the many reasons the Gallup poll fell short of its targets for nonwhite voters in 2012.
