usually harsh internet gives a pass to hotel housekeeper caught looking at guests belongings

Guy secretly films his hotel room. Catches housekeeper checking out his fancy stuff. I cringed- expecting the usual torrent of internet judgment and fascism... Instead... This

Highest rated comments: Natural curiosity, nothing more, but this lady has probably been fired now

"Checking out" ... you mean looking at . Nothing stolen so no story. If you leave your bedroom in a mess with all you stuff lying around, house keeping will likely look at it and pick it up. Grow up and stop whingeing.

As well as giving the TV a dust down, cleaning the bathroom and changing the sheets, the housekeeper began digging through the guest's personal belongings.

The woman had a close look at a package that the guest had delivered before moving on to examine his games console, a PS3, and the games with it.

Apparently unaware that she was being filmed, the housekeeper then has a close look at the laptop, coming full-face in front of the camera, before turning her attention to a tablet device.

Then she turns her attention to making the bed - but it's not long before she is drawn to the contents inside the guest's suitcase.

hawaii lava reaches and burns down $ 200k home

A relative of the home's owners, who live on the mainland, arhttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2829361/Lava-flow-volcano-incinerates-home-Hawaiis-Big-Island.html

d at the site to watch the house burn, officials said. That family member drove from another part of the island about two hours away and used an iPhone to take video of the house burning.

The county estimates the value of the home at about $200,000, Oliveira said.

The 800 residents that reside at the base of Kilauea Volcano were warned of a potential evacuation when it erupted in late June.

Around 50 families in the lava's projected path abandoned their homes.

The flow entered Puna on October 26 and engulfed a cemetery.

On Sunday, officials suspected the lava had come to a complete and final standstill 480 feet from the main street that runs through the town, which remains closed.

Youngstown crews rescue dog after 3 days on roof

Dozens gathered outside 303 S. Jackson St. at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday to watch as Youngstown firefighters, police and the Mahoning County dog warden rescued a dog that had been stuck on the roof for three days.

Neighbors called to report a Rottweiler had escaped from a hole in the attic of a three-story home on South Jackson Street three days ago. Christopher Gonzalez, 20, who lives across the street from the 303 S. Jackson St. residence, said he saw the dog stuck a few days ago.

“It sounded like they took the call as a joke at first,” Gonzalez said. “I called a last time this morning since that dog seems like it’s really struggling, and finally everybody’s here.”

After about an hour, Kyle Trimble, a firefighter, carried the dog to safety with the help of others. D’Andre Berger, the dog’s owner, arrived to the scene in the middle of the rescue, explaining he had been staying at a friend’s house the past week. He said the South Jackson Street residence had been broken into this week.

The dog warden said at the scene that the dog would not be released to the owner, as Berger did not have a license to own the dog.

‘Work for free!’ Bank of Canada chief derided over advice to unemployed youth

http://rt.com/news/202451-canada-poloz-economy-youth/

, who earns more than $435,000 annually, did not back down from his position on Tuesday when he told the parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance that it was important for unemployed youth to "volunteer to do something that is at least somewhat related to your expertise set, so it's clear that you are gaining some learning experience during that period."

“Are you aware that unpaid jobs increase income inequality?” asked Liberal MP Scott Brison, who argued that the children of wealthier families could afford to work for free, whereas many others could not.

Poloz responded by saying: “I would say that there’s some truth to what you’re saying, but when there are those opportunities, people should grab them," Business in Canada quoted him as saying.

Highly educated, unemployed and tumbling down (the ladder)

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/personalfinance/2014/10/19/cnbc-overeducated-underemployed/17390047/

half of the long-term unemployed in a Rutgers survey published last month estimate it will take up to a decade to rebuild their finances. More than 20% say it will take more than a decade, or that they'll never recover. The highly educated are "actually in worse shape because they had farther to fall and had greater financial liability," Van Horn said.

42 and living with roomates

"I've had to seriously downgrade my living situation," said Alex Gomez, a 42-year-old with a master's degree in entrepreneurship. Gomez lost his last full-time job in 2009 and has been looking for work since a short-term contract position ended in 2012.

Gomez's home was foreclosed on, so the Tampa resident lives with three roommates in a college neighborhood. He drained his 401(k) trying to save his house, and he has around $150,000 in student loans. His mother is tapping her 401(k) to pay his rent. Gomez subsists on that and about $200 a month in food stamps.

"I have been applying and looking for pretty much anything at this stage," he said. Although he's looking for work in engineering or data management, "I applied to a supermarket as a deli clerk because I used to be a deli clerk as a teenager," he said. He was told he was overqualified and turned down.

In a survey of 800 jobless professionals conducted by the Institute for Career Transitions, about 10% of the short-term unemployed had doctoral, law or MBA degrees. Among the pool of long-term unemployed, more than 18% held such degrees.

campus administrator tell women to adopt facial expressions that ward off rape

http://www.alternet.org/activism/hilarious-twitter-response-tip-women-avoid-sexual-assault-practicing-their-facial

Don’t dress too ‘slutty.’ Don’t drink too much. These are common phrases victim-blamers often say to women who have faced sexual assault to imply that they were essentially ‘asking for it.’ Now, here’s a new one to add to the list: don’t make inappropriate facial expressions.

That was one campus administrator’s recent suggestion. Cory Rosenkranz, coordinator of Substance Abuse & Violence Prevention at Ramapo College, has caused quite a stir after her presentation on sexual assault that students and faculty claimed was too focused on victims’ responsibilities. A student who attended the presentation told The Ramapo News:

“She was saying that women need to watch their body language and that women should practice how they articulate their face [in a social setting] by practicing in the mirror.”

In a satirical response under the hashtag #MyAntiRapeFace, sexual assault victims and their supporters have been practicing their expressions:

2595 applications for 18 affordable housing units - sf

Microcosm of S.F. housing plight: 2,595 applications for 18 units

“It’s like they are auctioning off hope,” said Amy Anderson, who said she has been looking for a place since she moved back to San Francisco in January and was attending her third housing lottery.

Depressing to watch

The odds lengthened as they watched, because potential residents were given priority in the order in which they were drawn. By the time No. 295 came up everyone could do the math. Even if you were the next name called, you’d be in line behind almost 300 others. Some left. Some slumped in their seats. A toddler fussed. A man began aimlessly banging his fist on his thigh.

For all the momentum of the economic boom, and the political good intentions, these people — families with children, seniors, young couples — can’t find a place to live, even if they have jobs and a steady income.

It is important to point out that these are not people looking for free public housing. Anderson, who says she once rented an apartment on Russian Hill for $1,200 a month before leaving the city, said she could afford to pay as much as $1,500 a month.
“Which is not that unreasonable in most places,” she said. “But I think of housing like it is an elevator that just keeps going up and off. If you ever get off you can’t get back on.”

hospital arranges for woman - a few hours from death - to visit with her horse of 25 years

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2825675/Grandmother-dying-cancer-reunited-horse-heartbreaking-scenes.html

Today her family praised hospital staff and said the loving farewell gave Mrs Marsh comfort in her final hours.

Hospital bosses arranged for the horse to be transported to Wigan Royal Infirmary after Mrs Marsh's condition deteriorated.

'I was crying my eyes out and all the nurses were crying too,' said her daughter Tina, aged 33 years.

'She took comfort out of it and it was a beautiful moment.'
