Satellite images may show China's first indigenous carrier: Jane's

BEIJING (REUTERS)- New satellite images show China may be building its first indigenous aircraft carrier in the northeastern port of Dalian, according to IHS Jane's Defense Weekly, which has released the pictures.

Little is known about China's aircraft carrier programme, which is a state secret, though Chinese state media have hinted new vessels are being built. The Pentagon, in a report earlier this year, said Beijing could build multiple aircraft carriers over the next 15 years.

Taiwan's Defence Ministry, in a report obtained by Reuters last month, said China was building two aircraft carriers that will be the same size as its sole carrier, a 60,000-tonne refurbished Soviet-era ship.

IHS Jane's said the unidentified hull was in an advanced state of construction at a shipyard in Dalian. "While a conclusive identification of the hull as an aircraft carrier cannot be made until work is observed on the upper decks and potential flight deck, the slow pace of assembly and outline suggests a military hull under construction," it said in an emailed sent on Thursday (Oct 1).

International Day of Non-violence This world has seen its share of bloody wars that ended countless lives and filled many more with grief. No matter what country you go to, there are stories of how someone’s greed or lust for power resulted in the killing of innocent people and the destruction of beautiful cities. Even wars that were fought for a good cause, like the Civil War of the United States of America, that resulted in slavery being abolished, have been responsible for a great many deaths. Fortunately, however, there are people in this world who have gone about making the changes they thought necessary without violence or pure brute force, and these are the people that the International Day of Non-Violence celebrates. No matter where you live, there’s no denying that a day celebrating non-violent ways of making a statement and bringing about change is long overdue, and that these peaceful strategies for fighting injustice more than definitely deserve their own day. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/international-day-of-non-violence/

National Chocolate
Milk Day National Chocolate Milk Day is observed annually on September 27. This is a day to enjoy a tall, frosty glass of chocolate goodness. Chocolate milk is loved by people of all ages!

Invented by Hans Sloane in the later 1680s, chocolate milk can be purchased premixed or it can be made at home with either cocoa powder and a sweetener or with melted chocolate, chocolate syrup or chocolate milk mix.

While Sloane was in Jamaica he encountered cocoa where the locals there drank it mixed with water. After trying it, he was reported to have founded it nauseating. Sloane then found a way to mix the cocoa with milk to make it more pleasant tasting. Upon returning to England, he brought the chocolate recipe back with him. Now people enjoy this delicious drink everyday. http://nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

National One-Hit Wonder Day It’s what we’ve all been waiting for, a day to celebrate every artist who has conspired to give us one massively successful song….and the grand total of nothing since. One-Hit Wonder Day was established by music journalist Steve Rosen back in 1990 to pay tribute to those who have had their five minutes (or less) of fame and subsequently vanished, leaving us only a catchy (hopefully!) tune to remember them by.

National Psychotherapy Day If you tell someone that you are celebrating Psychotherapy Day they will probably say ‘you need your head examined’ or some other joking remark, or maybe they will say that people who can afford psychotherapy don’t need a special day. Psychotherapy Day was founded in 2012 by a group of professionals and students and is designed to combat misconceptions and raise awareness of the vital work that is done by therapists in helping the one in four people who suffer from mental illness as well as those with emotional problems. The colour turquoise is worn to show support for Psychotherapy Day and can be combined with their logo of a turquoise counselling chair on a black background. It is an ideal time to talk, write, read or blog about psychotherapy in order to break down stigmas and worries, to volunteer or donate to community mental health centres and to share psychotherapy research. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/psychotherapy-day/
