Eat What You Want
Day Many people spend time stressing over their diet, and what they should or shouldn’t eat, mainly because today’s world is filled with magazine covers sporting perfectly toned, perfectly tanned models that constantly make us feel inadequate. The various health food fads that seem to come and go every few weeks definitely don’t help, either—as it turns out, a gluten-free diet is not particularly good for anyone who isn’t actually allergic to gluten, juice cleanses deprive us of the protein and fat our bodies need to function properly, and taking too many vitamin supplements just makes our urine expensive when our bodies flush the excess. If you, like many people these days, are beginning to feel disillusioned with all of these things, you will be glad to hear about Eat What You Want Day. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/eat-what-you-want-day/

Root Canal Appreciation Day Tooth pain is not a laughing matter, and for anyone who has experienced that discomfort prior to having treatment from an endodontist, Root Canal Appreciation Day is a big, big event. For teeth that have been damaged or irritated to the point of infection, the root canal procedure not only prevents worsening or abscess, it also preserves the tooth and maintains the integrity of the natural bite. Don’t worry; there’s no need to rush out for an unnecessary root canal just to celebrate the day. Recognizing the importance of dental health and its connection to overall health is enough. Root Canal Appreciation Day can be honored by acknowledging the dental specialists who relieve tooth pain and take care of smiles, and by celebrating the resilience of our teeth and their enduring ability to keep on chewing and keep on smiling. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/root-canal-appreciation-day/

Receptionists Day is dedicating to reflecting the importance and hard work of receptionists worldwide, who are often responsible for providing a good first impression to customers, staff and VIPs, as well as keeping the day-to-day operations of an organisation’s customer-facing aspects running smoothly and efficiently. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/receptionists-day/

Third Shift Workers’ Day celebrates those who lead more nocturnal lives. Do you ever spare a thought for the nurses, fire-fighters, supermarket shelf-fillers, and all the other brave people that work the graveyard shift while you sleep soundly in your soft, warm bed? They’re the people that really keep the world turning, yet they might as well be invisible as far as most of us are concerned. Inhabiting the strange, monochromatic world of dreams, they keep us safe from harm, make sure our packages are delivered on time, and see to it that our morning croissant is freshly baked. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/third-shift-workers-day/

Wind Mill Day Windmills were once a much more common feature of our landscapes; however, modern industry has rendered these historical wind-powered factories mostly redundant. Windmill Day encourages you to visit your local windmill, get involved in restoration projects, and to try your hand as a miller! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/windmill-day/

Mother Ocean Day Water is essential to human life. In fact, it is essential to all of the forms of life known to humankind in general, as there are no known species that can survive without it. Though marine biologists are unsure just how many kinds of creatures reside in our planet’s 5 oceans, it is estimated that about one-quarter of all of the Earth’s species do. Not to mention how very important the oceans are to our civilization—for thousands of years, braving their waters has been one of the bravest feats a human being could accomplish, one that often led to amazing discoveries and the general increase of our knowledge of the planet we inhabit. For all of these reasons and many, many more, Mother Ocean Day is a long-overdue celebration of our oceans in all of their majesty and peril. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/mother-ocean-day/

World Lupus Day Imagine being bothered by sunlight, being covered in a rash, suffering fatigue, mouth sores, kidney and joint problems, as well as experiencing substantial hair loss and the swelling of lymph nodes. Sounds awful, doesn’t it? World Lupus Day was created to help us understand that this seemingly random grab bag of symptoms is actually a debilitating, chronic autoimmune disease suffered by approximately 5 million people worldwide, with 1.5 million of them living in the United States alone. In short, lupus causes the immune system to become overactive, creating antibodies that attack healthy tissue causing pain, inflammation and damage in a given part of the body. Although lupus can be fatal, there is currently no known cure. Sadly, a large majority of people have little to no idea about lupus, often confusing it with arthritis, a much less serious disease. Many people have no idea lupus even exists until they themselves or somebody they know is diagnosed with it. This is the problem World Lupus Day was created to combat. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/world-lupus-day/

Stay Up All Night Night! This is a chance to let loose and make some exciting plans with your friends, or just see where the night takes you. Whatever happens, the rule is simple: no sleep till morning! So why not challenge yourself and see how long you can stay awake before nodding off, or why not have your friends stay over and place a bet on who will fall asleep first? As long as you don’t have anything important to do the next day, go for it! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/stay-up-all-night-night/

National Moscato Day Moscato is a wine originating from the Piedmont region of north-west Italy and the beverage has become a popular choice due to its sweetness, lightness and affordability. Moscato’s popularity among hip-hop artists like Nelly and Drake created hype as well as soaring sales, so in celebration of both new and old fans of the wine, Gallo Family Vineyards introduced Moscato Day in 2012. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/moscato-day/

Lost Sock Memorial Day It’s inevitable – for every load of laundry you sort through, there are odd socks. Over time, you may even find that you end up with entire drawers and storage boxes filled with odd socks. But worry not! Lost Sock Memorial Day is all about commemorating the other (lost) halves of the pairs of socks which are still with us. Here’s to their memory. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/lost-sock-memorial-day/

Mother's Day A Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there!

Lemonade Day was founded in Houston, Texas by Lisa and Michael Holthouse in 2007. The aim of Lemonade Day is to teach children about starting and running their own business and to encourage them to try it for themselves. Lisa Holthouse was inspired to set up Lemonade Day by an incident from her childhood. She had wanted to buy a turtle as a pet and when her dad refused to pay for it, Lisa set up a lemonade stand outside her house to raise the money to buy the turtle herself. Lemonade Day aims to help children to do the same and registered children are given all the information they need to set up their own lemonade stand. 250,000 children took part in Lemonade Day across the US and Canada in 2013. Participation in Lemonade Day is completely free and information packs are sent to all children who register. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/lemonade-day/

Iris Day Let’s sit back and smell the Irises, my friends, because they are, at least in some respects, head and shoulder over that dusty, old, bygone, the rose! The fresh, sumptuous lustre of their dewy, iridescent blossoms on a spring day, the perky, shivery, curious stem scouting the air and the mesmerising blush of rainbow colours make it a sight for anyone’s sore eyes. The name comes from the Greek word for ‘rainbow’ and most mythology adepts will tell you Iris was the messenger of the gods, the link between sea and sky, the rainbow glider, if you will. Doesn’t that just inspire you to find a bunch of Irises for your girlfriend, mother, daughter and sister right now? It should, because on Iris Day, all is forgiven if you bring a bunch of these to your special someone; so if you’ve been naughty, now’s the time to be nice. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/iris-day/

No Socks Day celebrating No Socks Day is pretty simple. You simply head out into the world with your feet unbound, unfettered, unimprisoned by the impertinence of cloth. Wear them in boots if you like, or set them truly free to walk upon the ground without anything betwixt them and the good earth. Fly across the sand in flip-flops or sandals, or just enjoy the plush feel of the carpet on your feet as you walk through your home. No Socks Day truly is a day of liberation for feet everywhere! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/no-socks-day/

National Roast Leg of Lamb Day Leg of lamb is a hugely popular and versatile dish, often cooked with fresh herbs (such as rosemary), garlic or even fruity sauces. Roast Leg Of Lamb Day is all about celebrating this tasty dish! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/roast-leg-of-lamb-day/

Free Comic Book Day Free Comic Book day was established by Joe Field in 2001. While writing for a magazine of the comic industry, he noted that there had been an upsurgence in purchases in the wake of the recent flow of comic book franchise movies. Society and finances were both looking favorably on this unending wealth of stories, and so it was that he suggested the institution of a Free Comic Book Day to spread the fandom as wide as possible. The first Free Comic Book Day was held on the opening of the 2002 Spider-Man film, hoping to ride on the wave of promotion and all the hub-bub going on about it in the news and other media sources.
While not every year sees Free Comic Book Day coming into line with the release of another feature-film, it often happens as a matter of providence. While the comics do cost the retailers a small amount each, they are routinely given away to all comers to help drive interest in the comic book hobby. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/free-comic-book-day/

Join Hands Day is all about shaking the hands of strangers you meet in the street, it is fact a day dedicated to attempting a union in our communities between the older generation and the younger generation. In the world where youths are persecuted, and the elderly are presented as weak and frail, this day truly brings communities together to recognise the various ways in which we all aid each other. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/join-hands-day/

International No Diet Day No Diet Day represents a journey of nearly half-way into the year, and nearly half a year from our New Year’s Resolutions. For those who have held fast to them, this often means that they have endured five months of careful consideration of their diets. After all, Summer is nearly upon us and the past six months have typically been used to drop off enough weight to leave them looking fantastic in their Summer clothes. Such dedication deserves recognition and reward, and that’s why No Diet Day exists. On this holiday adherents are free to let themselves loose from the shackles of their diet and enjoy one day of glorious freedom. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/no-diet-day/

No Pants Day Home may be where the heart is, the people you love and the fuzzy little family members on their four legs. But we often forget to discuss the things that define home by their absence. The first thing on that list? Pants. There is a feeling that one gets from stumbling through the door at the end of a hard work day and dropping their pants before they ever leave the foyer. The fresh air on your bare skin lets you know you’re home, and you’re comfortable. Such a great feeling is this that there’s even a holiday dedicated to it, and it should be no surprise that it’s called “No Pants Day”. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/no-pants-day/

No Homework Day Here’s one you may wish to hide from your children! Although if they don’t know about it, then there would not be many folks left to celebrate No Homework Day! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/no-homework-day/

Cinco de Mayo The holiday of Cinco De Mayo commemorates the 1862 victory of a small and poorly-equipped Mexican militia led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin over the much larger French army at The Battle Of Puebla. It temporarily stopped the French invasion of the country. http://www.thenibble.com/REVIEWS/MAIN/cocktails/cinco-de-mayo-cocktails.asp

Cartoonists Day celebrates the anniversary of the publishing of the first ever colour cartoon, The Yellow Kid in 1895. Now cartoons are a core component of many newspapers, publications and printed media, and have had (and continue to have) a huge impact on our culture. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/cartoonists-day/

Password Day They’re strange, they’re complex, they’re everywhere and we forget them far more than is absolutely healthy for us. No, we’re not talking about anniversaries (though sometimes we are! You’ll see what we mean) we’re talking about your passwords! We use them to secure the most private parts of our lives and to help protect our finances, our health records, or maybe just our emails. World Password Day reminds us of the importance of these little crypto-keys and the role they play in making sure we keep hold on our lives, identity thieves are everywhere, and these are your first digital line of defense. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/password-day/

Daily Holidays - May 4

Intergalactic Star Wars Day May 4th has become commonly known as Star Wars Day. And who could be surprised? The words, “May the 4th” seem to beg the rest of the catchphrase be uttered. Regardless of whether you prefer Star Wars or Star Trek, or if are even a sci-fi aficionado at all, the influence of George Lucas’ Star Wars on pop culture is undeniable. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/star-wars-day/

International Firefighters Day celebrates the dedication, heroism and importance of firefighters from all over the world. Many firefighters are volunteers, and many lose their lives in the course of duty. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/firefighters-day/

Petite and Proud Day For all people under 5’4?, you have a day where you can be petite and proud! Are you tired of people making derogatory comments about your size, such as: half pint, vertically challenged or titch? Petite And Proud Day is all about celebrating our lack of height and the advantages it brings. For example, we can squeeze into small spaces, we don’t bang our heads on low ceilings and we can fit in children’s’ clothing, which saves us money! Apparently short people live longer than their lankier counterparts, which is definitely worth celebrating. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/petite-and-proud-day/

Lumpy Rug Day where we dedicate time to appreciating our rugs: no rug should ever become lumpy or ragged, and so every year people are encouraged to smooth their rugs out and revel in the beauty of a perfectly flat rug. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/lumpy-rug-day/

Garden Meditation Day provides the perfect opportunity to achieve inner peace while honoring the essential ties between people and the environment. Garden and wild plants play a huge role in sustaining life on Earth; they produce food, they make oxygen, they preserve the soil and they beautify the planet. It’s no wonder that mankind has a natural connection to plant life. Garden meditation has been practiced for thousands of years because the natural elements in a garden create a soothing, peaceful environment for retreat, and they enable the necessary focus to bring about calm and stress relief. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/garden-meditation-day/

National Two Different Colored Shoes Day There are lots of ways to express ourselves, but what better way than celebrating Two Different Colored Shoes Day? Every day we wake up and, without thinking about it, put on two shoes which are exactly the same – the only difference being one shoe is for the left foot and the other for the right. After getting fed up with the boring ritual which we all follow every day, Dr. Arlene Kaiser created what has become known as Two Different Colored Shoes Day: a day for everyone to appreciate how diverse we all are by wearing shoes of different colors. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/two-different-colored-shoes-day/

Paranormal Day Paranormal Day is a day for all those who believe in paranormal activity to share experiences all around the world. At the very least, it’s a great excuse to catch up with friends and watch a scary movie! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/paranormal-day/

Daily Holidays - May 2

It was pointed out to me that the Daily Holidays did not post this early morning as normal. I am guessing we hit a bit of a glitch or perhaps I simply made an oppsie.

National Truffles Day The word truffle has several meanings in the world of candy because of their different countries of origin. It was invented in France as a small, rich chocolate made of ganache, often flavored and usually shaped into a ball. The original recipe, rolled in cocoa, was named after the black truffle fungus because of its physical resemblance. According to legend, the chocolate truffle was created in the kitchen of French culinary giant Auguste Escoffier during the 1920s. One day, as his stagiaire (apprentice) attempted to make pastry cream, he accidentally poured hot cream into a bowl of chocolate chunks rather than the bowl of sugared egg for which it was destined. As the chocolate and cream mixture hardened, he found he could work the chocolate paste with his hands to form a bumpy, lopsided ball. After rolling the new creation in cocoa powder, he was struck by their resemblance to the luxurious truffles from the French Périgord region and the Piedmont area of Italy. As the concept developed, different truffle textures were created by rolling the center ganache in white confectioners sugar or finely chopped nuts, like the classic assortment shown below; and the ganache was flavored with Champagne and liqueurs. http://www.thenibble.com/REVIEWS/MAI...yt.asp#truffle

Baby Day Smiley, squishy, faces are perfect reasons to put Baby Day on the map. Although it’s difficult to pinpoint why, or where this day originated, we can easily speculate! Anyone who has ever yearned for, had, or known a baby, could list dozens of reasons why babies are special. Babies are not just cute, but they are innocent in a way that helps you to see goodness in the world. They give you hope, happiness, and make you strive to become a better person. What more could you ask for? https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/baby-day/
