National French Bread Day The French have been baking long sticks of bread for over 200 years; but it was only in 1920 that the current baguette we know and love came into being. A law was passed in France in 1920 that prohibited anyone from starting work before 4am; making it impossible for French bakers to get their traditional breads baked in time before people went off to work. Voilà, the quick baking baguette was born! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/french-bread-day/National Common Courtesy Day Politeness and consideration for others abound on Common Courtesy Day. Poultry Day Oh yes, its a fowl, fowl day Poultry Day, that is! Celebrate this whole range of domestic feathered friends that are raised for their meat and eggs by thinking about just how boring Thanksgiving, Christmas and other holidays would be without the addition of a turkey, chicken, duck, goose or pheasant to the table. How naked would your fancy salad be without a quails egg quivering at the top? How incomplete would that Chicken Pot Pie be without well the chicken? https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/poultry-day/
National Chocolate Caramel Day What better way to celebrate Chocolate Caramel Day than with a favourite chocolate bar, or a piece of millionaire shortbread? https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/chocolate-caramel-day/
Corn Dog Day Corn Dogs are a favorite in America, and commonly associated with the sport of Basketball. Corn Dogs are made by battering and frying (or sometimes baking) hotdog-style sausages on sticks. Why not celebrate Corn Dog Day by making some at home? https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/corn-dog-day/

Awkward Moments Day Awkward moments happen all the time, and to some folks more than others! For anyone whos ever wished the ground would open up and swallow them, Awkward Moments Day is a celebration of all awkward moments. From walking out of a public toilet with loo roll on a shoe, to realising youve been speaking to someone everyday for a year, and dont know their name, life is full of these moments. Although there isnt much information regarding the origins of Awkward Moments Day, many people have commented on how interesting it is that Awkward Moments Day is the day after St Patricks day! Awkward Moments Day can boast a mascot though, the awkward turtle. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/awkward-moments-day/
Forgive Mom and Dad Day Parenting is an enormously challenging task and although some parents are better than others, none are perfect. Forgive Mom & Dad Day presents a perfect opportunity to let go of past hurts and frustrations, to let well-meaning but disappointing parents off the hook, and to find freedom from nagging resentments. Forgiving opens the door to a brighter future. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/forgive-mom-dad-day/

Freedom of Information Day On March 16th 1751, in a nation that was heading towards a rebellion that would change the world forever, James Madison Jr. was born in Port Conway, Virginia. He was raised on a tobacco plantation with his 11 younger brothers and sisters, and inherited the plantation upon his fathers death. Showing the sort of fearless ambition and political savvy that would serve him well in the years to come, he then grew that plantation to 5000 acres, becoming the largest landowner in Orange County, Virginia, and one of the most important citizens of the area. He would later come to be known as Father of the Constitution for drafting the United States Constitution and the United States Bill of Rights, and was the loudest voice of the time for ensuring that the government of the newly formed nation held no secrets from the people it served. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/freedom-of-information-day/Lips Appreciation Day Who doesnt love lips, right? A reminder to vote in today's primary 3/15/16
I encourage all to get to the polls in Missouri and the other states having a primary election today and vote for the candidate that you find best matching your preferences. Every vote counts and a large voter turnout insures that those in the media and in power hear the voices of the people.

Buzzard's Day The annual celebration of a bird whose circling overhead was a signal to the cowboys of old that a once living creature had met its demise seems strange to say the least. Yet, Buzzard Day is circled on the calendars of many dedicated Ohio residents who, once a year, eagerly scan the skies with binoculars watching for its return. For them this graceful, winged creature with its bald head and red beak signals, not death, but rebirth. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/buzzards-day/
True Confessions Day Keeping a guilty secret can be stressful and puts a strain on any relationship. On a lighter note, confessing your feelings to someone could start a beautiful new friendship! True Confessions Day is a day that was created to inspire people to let go of their secrets and have a day of honesty. Its no surprise that confession is such a big part of many religions: it allows one to cleanse their heart of their troubles and move on with a clear conscience. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/true-confessions-day/

Brutus Day Brutus Day aims to promote recognition of the fact that betrayal, backstabbing and dirty politics arent by any means a thing of the past, and are as widespread and tactical in our modern, corporate lives as they were in the forums of ancient Rome. Watch your back, avoid office politics, and look out for your friends! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/brutus-day/Buzzard's Day The annual celebration of a bird whose circling overhead was a signal to the cowboys of old that a once living creature had met its demise seems strange to say the least. National Potato Chip Day Potato Chip Day is a celebration of the worlds best-loved snack, first created in the 19th century. Tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt was staying at Saratoga Springs in New York and kept on sending back his French fries because he said they were cut too thick. Chef George Crum cut his spuds as thin as possible, initially as a joke and the result was the worlds first potato chips. The snacks popularity spread in the 1920s, when the first mass-produced packs went on sale. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/potato-chip-day/Pi Day 3.141592653589793238462643383 Thats (part of) the number being celebrated on Pi Day! Earmuffs Day Protect your ears from loud noises and protect them from the cold on Earmuffs Day! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/earmuffs-day/
Ken Day celebrates the occasion in 1961 when Barbies long-term on-off boyfriend, Ken Carson, first appeared on the scene, exhibited by his makers Mattel at a toy fair. In spite of some unfair comments about his manliness, and the rather more likely suggestions that he cared more about his clothes than his love life, the romance blossomed. The couple had a brief separation in the 1960s, but then stayed together until 2004. Then, in a move that shocked the world of plastic celebrities, Barbie announced their break-up, and transferred her affections to Blaine Gordon, an Australian surfing dude. Ken hadnt given up though, and in 2011 made some much-publicised attempts to celebrate their fiftieth anniversary by winning her back. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/ken-day/
National Open An Umbrella Indoors Day Everybody knows that opening an umbrella indoors is supposed to be bad luck. But is there any truth behind this age-old superstition? Fortunately for those spending sleepless nights pondering this question, there is actually a wacky holiday dedicated to finding out the truth. The aptly-named Open An Umbrella Indoors Day was invented in 2003 by a man called Thomas Knibb. Knibb allegedly hoped to defy silly superstitions by encouraging people to open their umbrellas indoors and observe the (non-existent) consequences. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/open-an-umbrella-indoors-day/
